[X] Plan: Trolls Are Not Known For Their Cunning (v2.0)

We can have our legal courtroom drama! Our cake and eating it!

This plan is amazing, please work.
Biggest thing I'm worried about is whether or not the troll will be seen as a reliable witness. Given our family's history with Horra, it's plausible from an outsider's perspective that we conned him into thinking Horra was responsible for something he had no part in.

It's a great plan and i love it one small problem didn't it meet sten before via biting his leg off? And therefore know we're blatantly lying to it? I know Trolls Are Not Known For Their Cunning but maybe we shouldn't tempt the norns have him hide out of sight?
Made it explicit that Sten should stay out of sight.

Then it probably comes to a comparison who seems more trustworthy (higher Drengskapr, lower Odrengskapr).

I believe the plan is for the others in general to be out of sight, but I'll add that explicitly. EDIT: And added. Sten will be hiding...behind Abjorn if necessary.

Are there even social-derived Hugareida @Imperial Fister ?
There are, technically... but I'm very hesitant about having them show up. At least in a way that you the players would be able to access them.

The line between 'really good at talking' and 'straight up mind control' is a vaguely defined one. I value the sanctity of the mind far too much to ever write something where the protagonist regularly uses powers like that, I would simply hate doing it. It just goes completely against my morals.

Understood, and I get the idea.

Incidentally, are you okay with us basically turning this into a Bugs Bunny skit? I threw it out on impulse, but if it's kind of going against what you want to write, I'm okay moving to just fight mode.

Bugs Bunny-style shenanigans are absolutely hilarious and I love it. Loony Tunes is my jam. I wasn't expecting it, but that's just how quests are! It's absolutely the kind of stuff the Norse got up to, too.

Like, the Norse had full on mid-battle quips. They did that shit constantly, even literally heartbeats before death. It's the best part about the sagas, bar none.

I'll make it clear if something ever hits a rough spot so proceed boldly and without fear.

Hah! Glad you're enjoying it.

That being said, this is an unrelated question now that we're just hashing out the votes with the plans sorted out, but I've got a little question. Is Standstill and Leverage both within the same 'Family' of Hugareida?

I mean, Standstill halts things in place, and Leverage seems to magnify force. Are they basically both in the "Motion" family or something?

Yes, but I didn't have the name for it until now. Motion is a good name

I mean, we are in a xianxia world...I'm betting cults to Evil Gods (as an equivalent to demonic cultivators) are a lot more common than in reality. And, as mentioned, he learned it from something old and buried...I was honestly thinking an old book more than a living cult.
In my mind it's a numbers game. Evil God cults are going to be a relatively small subset of a civilization's population. Otherwise, it stops being a functional civilization. That lowers the number of people to write books.

Such cults are proscribed, and being caught with such material is unlikely to end well for the owner. That reduces the motivation to write said books, increases the incentive to destroy them, and ensures those few books that do survive are much harder to find. Plus, there's the Muslim conquest (assuming that it had already happened when Horra was there).

Of course, less probable does not mean impossible. Horra could have gotten ridiculously lucky. Or some dark spirit guided him to that book in service of dark designs that Horra may or may not have gone along with. I just think other possibilities are more likely.
This is also pretty plausible, though.
Thank you. All that time reading Ars Magica sourcebooks is finally coming in handy.

I think Horra was actively looking for dark knowledge which ups the odds finding such knowledge significantly, but what culture's darker areas he found his secret in is still very much up in the air.

There was a hint with the description of the draugr, back when you fought it.

A small one, yes, but one nonetheless

...I believe I put it in. If not, then disregard this comment

[X] Plan: Trolls Are Not Known For Their Cunning, legal edition

I need to see a troll testifying in court

As you walk with the woods to the left of you, you're treated to a glowing blue light shining from deep in the trees. Two pinpricks of blue light greet your gaze as you turn to look properly. As they begin to move, fear creeps its way up your spine and takes a hold of your heart.

You take an involuntary step back as the rotting body of a monster emerges from the shadows.

Armed with sword and spear, it looks at you with a face made of bone and eyes of icy embers. A piece of carved wood sits in its open mouth and its forehead bears rune script. Tattered pieces of mail drape off its frame as it staggers towards you.

The carved wood? 🤔

That seems right, but doesn't help me place it, and I'm usually pretty good with mythology. Egyptian, maybe? That's a real stab in the dark, though.
Definitely not Egyptian. Wood doesn't last. Doesn't look mummy-like either.

Could be Germanic though. Wood is pretty important in that mythos IIRC, and it's a cousin-culture to Norse.
