One thing to keep in mind is that it's "Sigmar's Empire", and Sigmar is still actively involved with it's management. Any attempt to change it's name is going to get pushback from the dude who founded it and all his followers.

I think the idea that sprouted the discussion is if the Empire broke down. I believe the implication is that Sigmar would no longer be involved.

If it ceased to be an Empire, without breaking apart. So Sigmar would probably very much still be around. Honestly I can't see how it would actually do that, but that's another matter.

Literally last year Myanmar underwent a military coup d'etat. Hasn't changed its name.

The HRE less actually dissolved than was destroyed by Napoleon. He ripped away most of the Germanic states to form the Rhine Confederation, and then forced Francis II to dissolve the HRE with the unspoken threat of "or else". It was demolished so Napoleon had a buffer between himself and Prussia and Austria.

The last time we became a republic we'd just finished fighting two civil wars over whether the king actually should be in charge and at the end of it, we executed said king. If we were to become a republic today it would almost certainly be after a vote, and if part of that vote wasn't "what do we call ourselves now?" I'd be amazed. I'd also expect that remaining the UK would be an option, and I think it would win.

With the Empire, they have the obvious problem of not really having an alternate name, the tradition of calling themself the Empire for so long it's basically all they're known as, and the fact that even after changing that people will probably continue referring to them as the Empire anyway.
Counterexample: when Greece no longer had a monarch (during the abolition of the monarchy in the early 20th century and then again since 1974), it became known as the Hellenic Republic instead of the Kingdom of Greece. I think it's pretty common that polities that have their form of government in their name change the name when their form of government changes.

We could talk to the Damsels and test if they're willing to use the honor system (which would indicate a yes), and if not, we'd still have officially sealed a deal for their involvement.
That is a possibility that was brought up and shot down by the thread because we approached them twice already and they already told us what we have to do to get their attention, and one of those things is getting results. "Viable target" is not what I think of when I look at them at the moment.

And the other thing is the Iron Orcs we could agree to deal with. Besides, the Hedgewise with the suspiciously similar signals were the Ostermark mystery cult, and we don't even know if they're Haléthans for sure.

I completely forgot Mathilde could do rituals. I thought she still had yet to learn that skill.
Heh, we actually learned it literally a turn ago in the first part of Turn 37. Those sidequests and the following socials did a really good job of grabbing all of our attention for a while.

Huh, what's with the fatherless rally?

[X] Plan Disregard WEBMAT, Acquire AP
We have reached Stage 7:
I think its fine enough, theres disagreements on key points, but Boney has been pretty good about presenting relevant details and for any particular insights that aren't simply apparent from the narrative, well...they go in the footnotes.

So the general thrust goes like:
1) Update lands
2) Basic clarification obtained, key priorities identified and clarified.
3) Priorities and facts converge towards a One True Plan.
4) One True Plan takes initial voting lead, others fall behind.
5) One True Plan fails to sell the idea to everyone, but there is consensus on what sort of broad thrust is needed to obtain any votes.
6) Deviations fork off the One True Plan
7) Voters no longer have to make the heavy decision of picking every point and can now focus on which particular line items they most agree/disagree with. Boney goes to sleep/rest, confident that the thread won't catch fire.
8) Reaches the critical period, thread starts getting weird, irrational fears(and their peddling), memes, and counting the number of burgers you're going to get before you even laid any eggs happen. Thread catches fire.
9) Equilibrium reached as Boney returns to bring balance to the Force, lock the vote and start leaking ominous things.

What's interesting about this voting cycle is that we had the Two True Plans that were both in the lead and fairly close all throughout.

And the other thing is the Iron Orcs we could agree to deal with. Besides, the Hedgewise with the suspiciously similar signals were the Ostermark mystery cult, and we don't even know if they're Haléthans for sure.
Then you have to convince the thread to do Iron Orcs right now, when the project is about to begin. I don't think you'll find many supporters for that, but you can try. If you're going to ask the thread for something, like "at least choose another viable target as well", then the most practical solution is to create a plan to compete with acquire AP with your preferred option. You then have to consider whether people will vote for it or not. You could make that plan if you wish. That is the freedom afforded in quests.

Plans like that already exist, but has so few votes that I have little to no hope of one of them winning. Which is why I'm voting for Fatherless, which at least lets us get more mileage right out of the gate with what we already have instead of guessing on if Ostermark and Nordland Hedgewise are coreligionists and burning +20s on that guess.

The damsels want a combination of the following things:

a) viable results that can directly benefit partners
b) political assurances that working with the Eonir won't aggravate Athel Loren
c) destruction of the Iron Orcs

If we can do one of these, we might be able to recruit them. If we can do two or even all three, then they will join us—and possibly commit their best mages to the project as well.

But at the moment, anything else is going to result in a hard "no"—including divine assurances of trustworthiness.

Besides, I don't think we need to prove ourselves to them—when we interviewed them for the HQ of the project, they personally assured us that Ranald would be able to freely accompany us into Bretonnia. Honestly, their whole pitch was kinda desperate because they offered a lot of carrots, and the only downsides were the Iron Orcs and not being in Laurelorne. But clearly not desperate enough to throw in with an unproven project in another nation when they have issues at home.

(at least, not yet)

If we are going to do anything I would want to do all 3 so we can get the Fay enchrantress kicking in the door with "X going to give it to you" like Boney said.

A clearing in a damp jungle, with the buzz of insects in the air and the silent movement of predators behind the trees. A leather backpack, seemingly discarded in a hurry, lies on the floor with its contents spilling out into the grass. One item is a book with the title Queen of the Golden Cities: Mystery of The Jungle
The image of a MAGDA WESSEN novel somehow being present in the same setting it takes place in gave me a fun idea: What if there was a seer who could scry the future, but only in the form of mostly-inaccurate MAGDA WESSEN-style pulp novels? 🕵️‍♀️

Given that the Damsels want hard results in the form of either "solving their Iron Orc problem" or "tangible progress on the Waystones" before they can be recruited, that we can't even start real work on the Waystones until next turn, and that their Iron Orc problem sounds like a much bigger deal than can be cleared up in a single AP, I am unconvinced that we will be getting to them any time soon, and with no other strong contenders for the Daughters of Ranald that I've seen anyone argue for, if we insist on using the Father on multiple options in a single turn we're not going to be doing it for a long time, if ever, and that means this will be a sore point in the thread for RL months. So I'd much rather get it over with and resolve the question of Halétha (which I think is overwhelmingly likely) this turn rather than wait for the "efficient" chance to double up and deal with this argument resurfacing every turn from here on out. EDIT: And as I've said multiple times, I don't think using the Gambler on an action which will have lots of die rolls is worth it -- +20 to two die rolls on an action which rolls 1 or 2 dice is a 20% increase in value, +20 to two die rolls on an action which rolls 10 dice (assuming each member of the Waystone Project gets only one roll -- I am certain the actual number will be higher) is a 5% increase in value. Sure it increases the odds of one of those being a crit or averting one of those being low, but with so many dice being rolled odds are good that there will be multiple crits and multiple low rolls anyway.

Anyway, I've dropped my vote for the Fatherless variant of my plan now that the vote's been open almost 48 hours and those are in the lead, since I prefer using the Father. I wasn't expecting the Father to be this popular, but since it is I guess I'll actively throw my support behind it.
