I was thinking about that 'your dwarfs comment' and wondering what the ordinary wizard, of another college would know about Mathilde to have formed that opinion. Now granted Elyse is not what one might call ordinary, but she is by the same measure not likely to focus on the stuff we do to any great degree:
- Siege of Drakenhof: Anyone who pays any attention to Silvania and Stirland will know this, since there is currently a free reign on battle wizards in there some people must have looked into the past elector count of the place and how he died. Which is where you would find journeywoman Mathilde boldly holding the line Runefang in hand over the body of the Elector Count. So she was heroic... and all the better for the Empire not dead at the end of it
- Original Campaign for K8P: There really are not a lot of things that would draw attention to this, I mean yes people watching for the road to Cathay would think it is remarkable, people interested in Azul steel etc... but most wizards will not know what a Karak Eight Peaks is unless something draws their eye to it
- Waagh and Peace: 'Broke a waagh with a mountain' is a really big, really strange feather to have in your hat so I think a lot of people will recall that one. Killed orcs with magic at the behest of dwarfs, would be the message, followed by 'wait she works for the dwarfs?'
- Rooms of Calamity: A dwarf runelord walked into the Colleges and just made eight whole sets of battle magic testing rooms at no cost, because Mathilde Weber asked them. When one considers how hard it is to get even a runesmith to work for a human that would itself be the talk of the town, or well the college campus. Add to that the fact that this is literally a working that will save lives and I think this is the origin of 'your dwarfs' for most. This is some real dwarf friend flex right there.
- Expedition: While bringing Vlag back is of course big news for the Karaz Ankor, it is very far from the Empire and unlikely to interest wizards who are not involved with the area. That might change in the future as the dwarfs of Vlag start going out, since they might be the most pro-human wizard dwarfs out there. There is also the declaration that Mathilde is dwarf, but I would imagine that is more in he realm of obscure foreign policy and not something you hear in the college rumor mill

I thought I was like that once, and set my pronouns to He/She/They, but then I started realising that while I don't mind He/him and They/them pronouns, I was getting a bit irritated that nobody ever used she/her for me. So I switched my pronouns to exclusively she/her to get people to actually use the pronoun. I was wondering if I was being inconsiderate to be primarily using he/him if you preferred other pronouns.
The surge of serotonin when I was first refered to as she/her, in fact it was in this very thread by @IronFist because I can't forget it, was unmatched:

Anyways, I'm getting off topic. I think what I'm trying to say is, some people don't care about pronouns (like Boney), and some people very much do (like me). It might not seem like a big deal, but a single word can make my day, wheras for another it's barely notable. Just felt like mentioning that, mostly because this thread has seen nearly my entire journey with gender by this point. This is one of my earliest posts in the thread:

I was aware that the journey was happening, but thought the change of your displayed pronouns here was simply a reflection of that journey, instead of being a testbed for it. I'm glad that this thread has been able to help you find yourself.

It's kinda like misspelling or mispronouncing someone's name.
Imo, There's no excuse for misspelling.
Mispronouncing is more forgivable, because recovering the ability to hear and make some sounds is not always easy (or possible).
But you gotta at least try to get it right.

You made me reread that chapter and on a closer look Thorgrim was much less bad than I remembered him. The 84 roll actually gave a positive result. And the "if you want to focus on the future then see how you do without the glories of the past" consequence is probably what lead to him contributing radical lead Gyrocopters specifically.
The Thorgrim has terrible priorities part still stands though. I just for some reason remember actual expressions of anger on his part, which might have either been a misread the first time around or a recoloring of memory due to the following discussion and, later on, the fatal letter.
Error in what way? In my vocabulary error implies that something went wrong (or was about to). Do you think you would have written the chapter differently if you had kept that interplay in mind from the start? In any case, that chapter was great
I'm pretty sure that the sheer number of how many Orcs she killed with magic would have spread like wildfire among at least seven out of the eight Colleges. The only Wizards not in the know would be the ones that barely set foot in Altdorf and avoid being plugged in to the gossip network even for major news. I.e. shut-ins, hermits and wanderers of the non-talkative kind.
It being Vlag specifically might be of little interest, but the how of it should hold quite a bit of professional interest for many a Magister.
Instead of planning out with how the characters would bounce off each other, I just planned it out the way Thorgrim wanted it to go and had to throw most of that planning away when I realized Belegar was going to derail it. It ended up working fine in the end, but it would have taken me less time and effort if I'd accounted for Belegar from the start.
