I'm actually not sure if Elrisse would be worth it. We are in AP hell as is, and yes, she has a lot of information in everything , but my hope is be that LM clearance for a person specifically working on Waystones should include everything that we need. Should we take Elrisse we need not only the extra AP to make a personal effort to investigate Alric, whatever our Agents find out, and we need to invest more WEB-MAT AP every turn so we don't let any of our recruits idle. When and if we recruit another Jade Wizard and Hedgewise/Damsel/Icewitch, these AP take up enough of our turn as is.
Yes? And? We took the option that is the most difficult (trying to understand and get millennia old magical masterworks to work again or even reproduce them.) Going "oh no we don't have ap" and trying to skimp out on people we need is pretty shortsighted in and of itself.

It would be AP hell if we were recruiting for WEB-MAT, but for Project partners its more easy going on the AP.

its just that they will be doing things at their pace, not Mathy's.

mhm, haven't read all the disscusion yet but I would like some clarification in regards to Stephen, the foremost expert on enchantment and rituals
Anyone have any ideas for other Magisters we could ask after?
Maybe...
[] The Magister who knows most about Rituals (1 Favour)
I don't think we've got this skillet particularly covered, and it could be relevant?

@Boney is that valid?

Edit: the promise being worth 2 Favour is for our personal investigation of Alric, which in my read is not via agents or the EIC.
That would be Stephen.

Wouldn't getting the dude most skilled in the type of stuff on working on enchantmants and rituals relating to waystones important for doing some of the heavy lifting in terms of transporting the lights waystone knowledge into something usable by the entire waystone project group?

I remember vaguely that the waystone items are stuff on par with ritual level magic to have been made so wouldin't getting Stephen be really important?

I'm more neutral on getting Mira since although she is very skilled, she seems more like a mystery box in which she'll do her own thing like maybe use her political chops to get some more groupsor stuff for our waystone project which is even a gamble on it's self and i don't know her skills/knowledge besides her political chops in relation to how usefull it would be to getting the waystone project up and running like Stephen and his incredible skill with enchantments and rituals in relation to waystone working with light magic or Lady Elrisse and her being really knowledgeable on what the light college has in reserve for secret stuff.

mhm, I say we should try to get Stephen as his skills in enchantments and rituals may be what we need for incorporating the lights knowledge on waystones to greater use like we saw at the establishment in the recent chapter where somehow the lights managed to use a waystone and fasion the hysh it gathered for the establishment to power up an enchantment and it's not a vanity purchase for WEB - MAT.

If nothing else, we could have Egrimm learn and work with Stephen to get some enchantment knowledge which would be gamer as we probably can't expect him to follow us on our many adventures beyond Laurelorn.

I don't want to skimp out on people, but it is a fact that we only have so much AP available. Should we have 7 Members in WEB-MAT, we will need every available AP just to not give them a 6 month break. We are at 3 currently. If we add a Jade Wizard and 2 of Hedgewise/Damsel/Icewitch and recruit no one else ( who knows what kind of knowledge we need in the later stages, so far we haven't made any progress on the project itself, might very well be that we need someone else we haven't thought of yet later down the road), we would already be at 4 AP for WEB-MAT alone and reap the maximum benefits of the AP system. I'm not saying skimp out, I'm saying double dipping on Light LMs is risky when there are only so many slots available.

If that's the case I'm on board, but the update said
If you have other ideas for Light Wizards to recruit
so I assumed a full recruitment. But yeah, that would be weird with a quasi Matriarch.

We are smart enough I'm sure we could look through some of his work and find some glaring errors.

Depends on if we know the thing he's describing in his papers. If it's monsters and spells we haven't seen then we are shit out of luck. Also as good as we are, Alaric still is pretty respected. Not everywhere but academically calling him out does not sound like a good idea.

This is recruiting for the project, not for webmat.
If that was directed at me...I was thinking of fun, collegiate ways to humiliate a tenured professor and that was the first thing that came to mind. I was thinking about when someone tried to question the eusocial nature of the We and the ambers slapped it down.

Investigating Alric will take some time, but it's something we've got the resources and skill to do - indeed, we've already spent the last six months literally establishing a spy network in that region.

As long as the Light Order remains competent enough to not embarrass us (which is currently looking like it's best achieved by ensuring Alric doesn't get back in), I'm fine with them leaning on our dwarfy connections.

Elrisse and Vesperian Kant will be an interesting addition to the story on a narrative level - Kant had a one-sided rivalry with Horstmann in canon that ultimately culminated with him realizing his rival was a Chaos cultist, so I'm excited to see how that translates to DL, and I'm always happy to meet new Lord/Lady Magisters, they're all super cool characters.

Elrisse also comes with the biggest pile of juicy Light secrets of all, which is going to be extremely useful when we have to bluff the Grey Lords and Runelords into not realizing that instead of cards our hand only contains some rocks and a dead mouse.

Horstmann gets the promotion because even if he is annoyed with us for settling it (far from certain), I think that being demoted to "second-rank Light Wizard on this project" would be an even worse minefield to drop him into.

Hu, thanks for the clarification, I thought them somewhat synonymous since the project is under WEB-MAT, but if there is a special contributor-but-not-member level then that makes a lot of sense. All objections withdrawn.
We already recruited mister runesmith mcdwarfradical (who's name I have forgotten, because I'm really bad with names) and the elves and got no option for them to help us except meeting them in the first place. The only ones we can directly order around are webmat personal who are probably restricted to wizards of similar or lower standing. Also

For the Empire, we really don't want Alric back in charge of the Light College. If he has found a Chaos cult, Mathilde should be able to ruin his ability to get credit for it while still helping him defeat the actual cult.

We were already going to investigate. Going the extra distance to keep Alric from hamstringing the Light College again, and in return getting not just the lore expert but the ritualist we'll need? Good deal.

Currently the Waystone Project has three active contributors: Mathilde, representing the Grey Order and Karak Eight Peaks; Thorek, representing the Runesmiths Guild and Karak Azul; and Lord Hatalath, representing the Grey Lords and Laurelorn. This is to choose the person or persons who will join the Project on behalf of the Light Order. WEB-MAT is part of Mathilde's contribution to the Project.
