[X] Julia, to see what she has gotten up to as Stirland's most experienced spy master.
[X] Eike, as she begins her tutelage at the Grey College.
[X] Altdorf, to witness the octenniel duels for the position of Supreme Patriarch.
[X] Pay a visit to your fief, to see if anything has changed. It probably hasn't.

[x] Panoramia, to properly finishing catching up with her.

[x] Karak Vlag, to see if they've been talked out from behind their fortifications yet.

IIRC, Mathilde wouldn't have used it even if we'd had it on the basis that there's a risk Khornate fuckery might let her dismiss the sword and then block her bringing it back out, which would basically be an instant loss condition.
The Slaaneshi demon fight, not the Khorne Champion one, where we teleported onto Deathfang's head and the Higher demon caught our sword.

[X] Belegar, to discuss who will be Loremaster after you.
[X] Panoramia, to properly finishing catching up with her.
[X] Middenland, to see how the Ulricans are going with their new Eonir coreligionists.

So, as someone that wants to eventually make all our gear. rather than getting stuff off of other people.

How would we 'upgrade' from Branulhune?

Outline for: The Sword of Ulgu (better, more puny name pending)

Mathy's 'Grandmaster piece' using things we have learned over the course of the quest.

Step 1: codify ' Mastery - Shadow Dagger' into its own spell.
-- 1.2: try for, or upgrade it to 'Shadow Sword'

Step 2: learn 'The Penumbral Pendulum' spell

Step 3: Enchant both spells (or just The Penumbral Pendulum if there is a way to control 'output'.) into a sword hilt. (or ring? if possible.)
-- 3.1: get good enough at enchanting to actually enchant a BM
-- 3.2: figure out if this is possible, otherwise go back to the blackboard..
---3.3: windherder it through the Branch collage? if possible? and not a dumb idea that will blow up.

if possible, we now have a disappearing/reappearing, infinitely thin, so infinitely sharp sword that can now be extended to the length of a Penumbral Pendulum mid-swing at least once per battle. (think gin ichimaru, if more limited)

Step 4: help kragg see runes on Bok: windglasses
-4.2: hope that Kragg learns something about putting runes and magic together.

step 5: get Kragg or Thork to enchant runes on the hilt(or ring).
step 5.2: If possible, have Kragg put the runes on the shadow blade itself. (if learned from Bok)
Step 5.3: figure out what runes we would want, or needed if they could help make this abomination more stable.

Step 6: placeholder for more steps down the line. up or down (because there will be more steps)

Result: The Sword of Ulgu (better name pending)

@BoneyM theoretically possible?, more steps (discoveries, masteries, skills, friends etc) needed to fill out the gaps? go away Jyn you drunk? (I'll take a 'try it and find out' when it comes to this abomination of an idea.)

I don't much see the point in trying to 'upgrade' from Branulhune, nor would I really want to.

Branulhune is pretty well linked to Mathilde as a character at this point, and is only becoming moreso as she develops a style specifically for it.

I don't think that there's much room to upgrade from branalhune, but I would love to develop a shadow sword spell that's compatible with branarhune, so that the style can be passed down.

There is still the 'range slot'.

I know that people are pretty set on 'rune guns', but I still can't help but think that's not being creative enough when it comes to the idea of 'Range weapon', the golds have a floating ball of murder.

we could keep our guns and have a ranged enchantment!

... anyone thinks it would be possible to stuff an apparition into the shape of a shoulder owl?

This is certainly, uh, optimistic.

Since you specified dhar-based necromancy, does that mean there are other instances of necromancy not based on dhar?
Well, one would presume that divine energies were used in the creation of Hexwraiths instead of dhar, since they're stated to have been created by Morr to hunt down necromancers. A job they proved to be rather inept at, considering how many necromancers and vampires ended up trapping and binding them to their service.

@BoneyM last one for tonight, promise.

Ranged enchantment (ring or earring): Hounds of The Dämmerlichtreiter

Two pieces of silver shape and engraved as two hounds chasing and biting each other tails in a loop. At a command or thought of the wearer, two shadow hounds (Dark hounds covered in Uglu) spring forth to attack or chase down the target.

A bit of a different interpretation of 'range enchantment' but a good one I think.

possible?

Possible slot-wise, nowhere near enough information about how Ulgu apparitions might work to say about the rest.
