No, i think it is explicitly about teaching her how to dwarf.
Because getting along with non dwarves she can learn elsewhere, nad probably better, but this is the time and place to learn how to dwarf.

Just voting for the peeps I think introducing the child to would be helpful for her future.

The dwarves to get accustomed to their ways of life, religion, and many mindsets and develop connections to them like Belegar for example.

Halflings because they are a people in the empire worth knowing and have some influence on trade, etc.

Vote for what people or institutions Mathilde will introduce Eike to during her time at Karak Eight Peaks. This will be on top of her learning about Dwarves in general, and may or may not shape the person she becomes in the years to come

She is learning that anyways, this is an add on, and so I would like to give her a better taste of the world. Not just for learning.

Learning from people who get along with dwarves in a business and governmental context is also practical.

Well, Tongs are metaphysically interesting but don't seem useful enough to bother with breaking or changing the Articles for them. Even if they were legal, "get another wizard" remains a better way to get spells from another Wind. Let's hope the fundamental research in the area finds its use for some other project.

I'm a bit shocked that Edda is beating Panoramia and the Halflings, and Francesco and the Undumgi

like, they are both more Interesting groups, and better for the kid to know?

is there a reason that she is doing so well?
Eike is here to meet dwarves and learn how to greet and deal with a variety of them. Given she's from Sylvania she can learn how to deal with Sylvanians/Imperials and Halflings in Sylvania.

[X] Francesco, Soizic, and the Undumgi
[X] The We
[X] Edda and the Cult of Valaya

I feel like these three are the most relevant to Eike, if we're training her to be diplomatic in foreign trade. The human and dwarf traders and the We, for importance and for fun. It'd be cool if Eike made friends with the We.

[X] Panoramia, Hluodwica, and the Halflings

Halflings are also important for trade.

I get where you are coming from but on the other hand are we really here for her to have fun. This was sold to her guardian as a means to learn about dwarfs, no more and no less.

Even in the best case, using tongs to cast spells would start from the bottom up, with the low-level end of the spellbook. If it could be done within the Articles, that would've been worth pursuing, and the possibility was worth 1AP to check out. But now that it's clear any working approach needs dhar? Well in terms of raw power at low levels, the best thing to be manipulating with dhar-tongs is probably more dhar.

So even as someone open to turning the quest in the direction of dark magic, this is a dead end.

It just occurred to me that as of this update I think we're now at a point where Mathilde going Dark Wizard could be plausibly called Nagash Meets Vollans situation. In kind, if not necessarily degree.

Like the former, she had a lot of outside sources to teach her all along her journey so that she can create new and interesting heresies. Like the latter, she kept as safe as she could and spent a long, long time in the absolute basics without ever really touching it, and is now set to reap the rewards of that if she ever does delve in all the way.

I have said it before Dhar has its limits, mostly in the utility department. Flight of the Witch is no Wings of Heaven and we should not expect to be able to say use Dhar to make the land more fertile, there are plenty of reasons why a sane dark magician would want to be able to use multiple winds.

See if Eike has Wilhelmina's knack for strong first introductions to IMPORTANT DWARVES :V.

[x] Gotri, the K8P Air Corps, and the Cult of Morgrim
[x] Kragg the Grim

Introduce Eike to THE KICKFLIP ZONE and the quintessential opposite of that, just for breadth of experience.

[x] Francesco, Soizic, and the Undumgi

I'd almost say Edda, but Francesco is likely who she'd end up dealing with through the EIC, if the whole We Silk test goes well and Human Facing Steward stuff ends up getting done that way.

[x] Cython
Just a flex + More Cython Good.

[x] The We
Also a flex, but an introduction to future Weird Business Partners once the silk trade is in effect properly.

Guys I realize that 'dragons are cool' is an axiom of Fantasy... *points at user name sheepishly* buut...that is an eleven year old girl you are exposing to the being that make Mathilde gulp in dread the first time she met it. The poor kid would likely just faint at the sight of an emperor dragon.

At long last.

We bought an egg.

Que?

"Any other research branch, I'd have my doubts how well I'd fit into it," he eventually says. "But I've seen how you do research. I think it would be a good fit."

Snerk.

She flicks a finger and a marble-sized ball of light shoots out, causing a quack of complaint from a perhaps overly-inquisitive duck. "You think our Egrimm could help?"

To reiterate: Snerk.

Even in WHF, diplomats and spies will conduct their top secret meetings by duck ponds.

Sometimes we say that any idiot can be a Light Wizard in the sun, their true test comes in the depths of night.

....why does this feel like another maddeningly ambiguous Egrimm-ism?

t is, you quickly discover, rather like trying to catch a live eel in a cat's cradle, if the cat's cradle was also made of eels.

You really do have a gift for the descriptive turn of phrase, @BoneyM.

She looks from you to him and back again. "Okay," she says.

I like Eike. Eike for president!

Wait.

The conservative the radical and the guy who wants to be conservative but is really radical
This shows that the dwarfs as people are different from each other, what you need to know to really get along with them

If we don't tell anyone about it, what's the harm in trying the magic more? We've kept secrets since the beginning of this quest, what's one more going to do to us.
