Diplomatic contact with the Yusak has significant odds of meeting an active Chaos worshipper(as determined by dice roll), which would be a failure and not worth the action in my view.
And what? You'd prefer leaving them in suspended state of non-determination than actually going and getting this information? How in the earth this is a "failure"?
Contacting Yusak is a form of reconnaissance too. Mathilde is not the only one who can scout, knights are doing this all the time. But if we don't contact them, likely no one else will, and being eternally-suspicious Grey lord magister we totally would get useful information from this contact.

If we go back across the ice instead of down the mountain this may be our only chance to get the goblet.

Approval voting for this, because I don't want to risk not being able to fulfill our part of the agreement.

You know it's kind of hilarious how much Mathilde is responsible for the expedition's logistics:
  1. Made a deal with the Dolgan for cows
  2. Got Thorek's apprentices to build refrigeration runes
  3. Went to the Chaos dwarfs for salt meat
  4. Figured out Mookery of Death
We are supposed to be the bloody scout not the provisions officer.

The non-determinism is in who we meet, not the group as a whole. Dolgan are still Chaos worshippers, even if the individual shaman we first met was for Ghur.

The game here is risk, and how to avoid it. The best outcome we get from this action is additional diplomatic options, and in my view, that would be worth it if we succeed. Every other outcome from this, however, provides less utility. A mission with the intent of contact that fails to result in peaceful contact will provide less reconnaissance than actual scouting. The uniqueness of contact does not outweigh the need for risk mitigation.

And I listed my take on the benefits of scouting in the previous post, so I'll leave it at that.

We also provided most of the stomachs, so i guess it's just fair.

I mean, we do have 19 Stewardship, even though most people forget it...

I am expanding the moratorium to cover all discussion of any sort on the subject of that gap in the road until it is time to embark on the return trip, and I've added it to the notes at the end of the update. Discussing non-magical solutions is too dependent on the circumstances for the conversation to really go anywhere.

[X]Attempt to make contact with the Dolgan
-[X]With Johann
[X]Attempt to make contact with the Yusak
-[X]With Johann

I'm adding those two since Johann is fast enough to accompany us, more diplomatic than mathilde, crafty enough and great in a fight.

Not sure if I'm doing the write-in right since it's a sub-option?

No, for this vote format you'd need to have the 'with Johann' part on the same line as making contact.

The failure would be that we meet with a full on chaos shaman, and that full on chaos shaman meets with us and knows about us. It is still valid to think that it's worth trying to get information about the Yusak, but "hypothetical Full Chaos Shaman Yusak Chieften has as little info about us as possible" is something with it's own value, and it's also valid to consider that value to be worth more than the info we get out of making contact with the Yusak.

Considering Yusak seems to be out of favor with Chaos for some reason chances of us meating a zealot is less likely as such people will be either busy trying to correct that or keeping their heads down if not.

Either way I think we should take a look. They are the tribe that is closest to Dum and if we can trick/intimidate/convince them to let us pass freely it will make things so much easier.

Or they're desperate to regain favor and are willing to take extraordinary risks to accomplish that.

You don't need to convince me to vote to meet with the Yusak, I am voting for it, I'm just responding to a post that was effectively implying 'the worst case is that we know about the bad thing' because there are absolutely ways meeting with the Yusaks could be actively detrimental, and it's legitimate for people to consider that not worth the potential upsides.

Being busy trying to correct that might well include searching for something to sacrifice to earn back favour. Something like the expedition, or even a favoured 'champion' of an order god, that they'd learn about if we meet them.

Risk minimisation for the steam wagons seems important here. Yes, it's a lot of casting, but the risk of cracking an axle on a pothole or similar seems greater.
