I like it. Though I think I'd go with a variant: Whatever became the Horned Rat highjacked Solden's plan, and took a good chunk of his powers in doing so, which is why Solden is now a pretty minor god. Perhaps he just to be less tyrannical, but the betrayal convinced him that total subjugation of his followers is necessary.
Better: Ranald was the stranger that stole the power, achieving all four of his faces at the same time and being the very best Protector against Tyranny in his own non-murdery way

So, Eike is edging Cython out by 2 votes, and Kasmir is doing the same by another 3.

Come on, Dragon folks. A wizard is never complete without a dragon partner, everyone knows that!

Hmm, since were speculating, here's an interesting line from Cython
"Ah, yes, that which is now called Classical. An adequate language of an adequate people. They trusted the wrong being, but the history of this world is made of misplaced trust."
He definitely knows something. Methinks there's a plotline to be had. Archeologist Mathilde discovers the origins of the Horned Rat. And hey, we could see what Qrech will tell us about Skaven theology. Because their telling of Tylos is bound to be very different.

"Say, Cython, while we're discussing species Gods who don't match the Elven-Human pantheon pattern..."

Do the Nehekharan gods line up with the Elven ones? Genuine question, I have no understanding of the subject matter beyond my cursory googling to identify the hooded snake on the coin.

I said I'd cut the canal if it was threatening Cython's place, and lo and behold it has come to pass.

Maybe if relative Eike/Kasmir support falls enough to create two free spaces I'll approval vote it again, but otherwise it's a goner.

So I just remembered, but we shouldn't write those books on coinage right away. That could give the game away to anyone suspicious of us. For maximum secrecy, I suggest we focus on other papers and whatever the expedition gets us for a while, and then find an excuse go on an adventure somewhere we could plausibly have discovered all this.

Doesn't have to be a particularly exciting adventure or anything serious. She could bullishit something up about ruins on the far side of the Border Princes.

Ditto for capturing apparitions. Not directly after the chaos wastes, we should find an excuse that could have plausibly inspired her. Something preferably completely unrelated to chaos or dark magic.

VOTE FOR DRAGON!

also the canals will be done when they are done. no point checking the progress.

I mean, we could just delay the publishing after writing it up if we want. That said, I trust that Heroic Intrigue Mathilde will handle it. To me at least, the details fall below the level of abstraction.

I'm not too worried; she did say this:
You tuck them away in your vault for now, and when you have the time you'll figure out a way to have it plausibly introduced to the historical record.
And Boney said out of character when we asked that she'd use her full Grey Wizard cunning to weave plausible lies; she's got Belegar vouching for her, so I imagine it'll be fine.

That said, I agree that it's probably going to be a while before we write any of the coin stuff. Next turn we should write the Warp Lightning paper, and the turn after that we're leaving for the expedition; it's unclear if we get a Serenity paper on T33, but my instincts say no. And then we'll come back from the expedition, possibly with a gift bag full of studyable goodies, and I strongly suspect that the research lobby will demand a research-focused turn to make up for the turns and turns of self-improvement, so that will be even more papers. These coins are gonna sit in our to-do list for a while.

so ignoring all the discussions of romance, since I don't really have the energy to get involved there, it occurs to me that what we're doing with skywalk for the whole Fog Path spell might affect the usability of Tongs. Not necessarily it's viability, it might still turn into Dhar and all that, but part of our problem was that we didn't really know how the casting would take place. Here, however, we see a perfect example, in a path that Boney chose themselves for inventing a viable spell possibility—which makes me doubt they'll let us sink several actions in before saying it doesn't actually work that way—namely using an Ulgu spell to shape and cast another at a remove. If we can get Ulgu to manipulate another Wind without turning into Dhar, then we would just have to invent an Ulgu spell meant specifically for shaping those Winds into whatever spell we're trying to cast. The only question is whether it would be simpler or harder than the Fog Path, since we'd only need our "control" spell to cast one spell, instead of hundreds in quick succession, but they are different Winds.
Granted, this is still counting eggs before we have any, but at least now we know we're after eggs, instead of A nice ham or something.

I'm not against picking Cython's brain for fun history trivia, but this doesn't prove he knows anything more than the commonly accepted story for how Tylos fell.

Why would anyone be suspicious? Nobody has any idea the vault existed.

That said, the papers are timeless. I'm all for leaving them on the backburner a while to chew through the old-and-moldy before the expedition, and the fresh loot straight after. They can fill in gaps in the papers scheduling as needed.

After briefly falling down to sixth place again, Cython is now back up to tied-for-fourth.

(@Aegon Targaryen, I had to manually group your Dragon vote in with the main one because you wrote "Karak Zilfin" instead of "Karag Zilfin", you should fix that.)

We don't actually know what will happen with tongs, in both cases of tongs being used, the dhar empowers and sort of "Twists" the wind being used as tongs, both adding oomph and new capabilities and kind of perverting or twisting the concepts of the wind being used.

Necromancy is basically the anti-thesis of normal shyish usage after all

Maybe. I mean, yeah, it's also possible that something else entirely will happen, but now at least there's the idea of a spell for manipulating winds into spells outside your body without taking absolutely forever or any of the other complications that come with that. Granted, it's Ulgu manipulating Ulgu, so maybe we having Ulgu and, say, Azyr or whatever interact would end up as a unique effect and spell, rather than just recreating normal spells, but it's something. I don't think we've had that before.

I would like to note in face of some campaigning attempts to tie the two, that Cython will remain available for requesting reciprocal knowledge sharing (on Gods or Tylos or Magic etc) whether or not we vote to romance it right now. They're not going anywhere, and seriously pursuing these projects would likely be 'real' turn actions, rather than social ones anyway.

Theres no indication we'll miss out on their Poorly Researched and Incomplete Theses on Divine Portfolios Wise Elder Dragon Knowledge if we choose not to vote to try to romance something that is, after all, quite alien.
