On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

At the end of the day the Aeries are a simple request with most of the work already done. 4 actions of overflow is very likely to just have some of the extra actions accomplish nothing. The idea that there's going to be some great end if we do that seems quite baseless. We know actions have overflow caps, with simple actions generally having lower ones than difficult.

Wish we were taking all our local cool supplies with us. The Hearthstones sure but -- at least, taking the Silver Wutroth with us to the conclave. It's a local material, it's a unique variety of Wutroth, and maybe somebody'll get interested in it.

I mean, this is a chance to advertise or to see if anybody would like more of the stuff! We should be taking not just our finest creations and discoveries (Adamant and the Rune), but also the North's unique resources too.

Although, another potential thing to take is... maybe some Dragon Ogre corpses? We do have shitloads of them after all. And if they're so rare, then maybe somebody will be interested in them.

Getting the Dragon Ogre research done opens up all that comes with it, including Kholek's stuff, too, and may have a the Master Rune of Thunderbolt behind it.
No, it means we have to do it next turn, right @soulcake ?
If that's the case wouldn't it be better to put off doing the Kings armor until we completely finish the Dragon Ogre research? Because we may not finish the research next turn since we may have other stuff to do.

This is something that people seem to forget all the time. Seems like with it only needing one more action that the cap is likely low anyway.

It's fine. Next turn we can do part 1 of his armor and the drogre research. Pt1 just involves choosing the Runes and the MR of Thunderbolts is a Weapon Rune and would thus not be applicable to the armor regardless.

We can also choose the materials we use in pt2 after we do part 1 so that's fine too.

@Horium as well.

Yes it just means Pt. 1 of the armour request is locked in next turn.

A followup question: assuming we trigger the commission right now and lock in an action on part 1, does that mean we have to commit to a rune setup at the beginning of next turn? I'm wondering if we'd still be able to spend an action or two on combo tests next turn and use that info to help decide on an array, or if any testing has to happen this turn if we want it to influence our decision.

I suppose an alternative way to phrase my question might be, would you accept a nested plan for turn 22 that might look like:

[ ] test if runes X Y and Z combo, 1 action
[ ] test if runes U V and W combo, 1 action
[ ] griffonking armour, 1 action
-[ ] if runes X Y Z produced a combo during testing, use those runes
-[ ] if runes U V W produced a combo but X Y Z did not, use U V W
-[ ] if neither X Y Z nor U V W resulted in a combo, use runes A B C

So why not bring Silver Wutroth and/or Hearthstones?

considering it's a fortress, ergo, big and with many parts, I'm expecting quite a few more possibilities.

My vote comes down on two things.

1. No one could make a convincing argument (in my opinion.) on why we should not grab another apprentice. There is literally no greater action then to pass down our knowledge, especially after so many runesmiths & runelord's just died. There will always be things to research, I fail to see how one dwarf researching one project will be a greater deed, then thirty dwarfs research thirty projects.

2. What would Snorri do? Since turn one we went full Santa. The guy is practically living for taking care of his people's little ones. I think Snorri would grab a apprentice, I cannot think of a reason compelling enough that Snorri would not see as shameful. Many of Snorri's peers died, it could of been him, I think his drive of taking apprentices would be greater then ever. And this is what trumps any argument for me. Runelords are not always pragmatic or economical, when it comes to passions, like locking them selves away for research, or in Snorri's case, producing runesmiths out of beardlings, whilst other runelords produce great-works out of gromnil.

There are a lot of runelords who focus on research, on becoming better, knowing more, making the ancestors proud, and being better then there peers. Far to few, focus on passing on the knowledge to those with the gifts to use them. We could forge legendary armor after legendary armor, and it would still be less thrilling then throwing pocket gravel in the face of our apprentices.

Problem with that is that part 1 is where we choose the runes and if people expect us to potentially gain a lighting rune it would just make sense to put if off until we do the research first since it may unlock the lighting rune for the kings armor.

Why do people make it out to seem like if we don't teach an apprentice that there would be one less runesmith? That isn't the case since it's outright stated in story that if any child shows any potential they are taken in as a Runesmith regardless of what we do. Besides that the argument on apprentices is that some people just prefer to have a period without them to focus on research before taking in more.
Like what? MR of Thunderbolts is a Weapon Rune and we already have the Rune of Lightning.
Pretty sure that the argument is that examing the corpses would probably give us a better lighting rune. Maybe even a master equivalent.
