It would have been really nice if we had an art that could be convincingly cultivated in the context of gardening with Zhengui. Unfortunately, we don't really have any that fit the bill. A few of the Wood/Growth/Renewal arts from the last art vote could have fit the bill, but we went in the other direction with an art that has barely any feasible connection to Zhengui. This is exactly what my worry was at the time- that we were giving up the opportunity to have a tool in our arsenal that would clearly benefit from Zhengui in cultivation and that could be used together with him in general fluff-ish scenes.[X] Zhengui, Hanyi, Guan Zhi
I absolutely want to work on building a garden or something similar with Zhengui when we get the chance after this. He wanted to build it as a surprise and he's lost the inspiration for that, but he'd definitely still enjoy a project like that with Ling Qi. Hopefully it could help at least one of them with their cultivation or skills, and even if not I'd want to do it as something focused on Zhengui. We could even bring in Ling Qingge and Ling Biyu to make it a proper family project.
Oh man. I never realized that we had to have an art with deep thematic connections in order to spend meaningful time with someone. I do wonder what arts we have with deep thematic ties to Meizhen though? We have clearly effected her and bonded with her but I can't quite think of any.It would have been really nice if we had an art that could be convincingly cultivated in the context of gardening with Zhengui. The only way WHR could be used in this situation would be to argue to him something like "You may not be able to build a garden for your family, but you can be its hearth!" which is monumentally shitty. Basically turning his aspiration to whatever superficial similarity that's convenient for us based on an art choice we made that barely kept him in mind in the first place. BKSD being a Wood but also Darkness/Music art about an army marching to its death is so divorced from Zhengui's themes it's barely worth considering ever cultivating in his presence, much less using for a bonding moment.
Hopefully, Hanyi has some deep existential problem soon so we can use any of the 6 Darkness, 3 Cold, 2 Dance, or 6 Music arts we know or will be learning to bond over with her and smooth the issue out.
I said it would be nice to have an art as an easily available narrative tool. It'd be better if we had one than the current situation where we don't. What I didn't say is that one's necessary.Oh man. Sarcasm aside I think your full of hot air with this idea of yours.
It is very clear to me that we don't need arts to meaningful interact with other beings. Nothing is stopping us from getting our hands dirty and planting flowers with Zhengui. There is nothing stopping us from having deep conversations with him about the nature of cycles and rebirth. Ling Qi's mom even practices an art that focuses on cycles. It could be fun to host a discussion between those two about that shared aspect. There is nothing stopping us from deeping the bond between Zhengui and Ling Qi and helping Zhengui overcome this event, lest of all the outrageous idea that we need an art with deep connections in order to something.
This post is very interesting to me because you take such a hard pivot from the post I replied to, which felt like an excuse to stir the pot on a vote already done.I said it would be nice to have an art as an easily available narrative tool. Cultivation does matter. It's important. It's funny that you'd bring up Meizhen, when cultivation was such an important part of her opening up her eyes to the importance of other people and the nature of their relationships to her through her experimentation with Earth. We also have to keep in mind Ling Qi's personality and the issues she's currently struggling with her viewpoint. Can Ling Qi spend time just gardening with Zhengui? Yes, absolutely. But absent the context of cultivating an art so that she also benefits from it in a tangible and relatable way, there's going to be that part of her whispering in the back of her head that she's wasting time, that Zhengui's holding her back. That he's an obligation, not a boon.
I'd much rather cooperation where she sees both of them benefiting or getting stronger than cooperation where she's treating it like repaying a debt, with the implication that it's an expense for her, because she "owes" Zhengui or whatever. It's a matter of bypassing pitfalls by being better equipped for the terrain of their relationship.
Everyone else: "Moon Cultivators..."Bian Ya nodded, closing her eyes as everyone prepared to move. Ling Qi only glanced to Guan Zhi. "What is Senior Brother's operation?"
"He has determined the local ecosystem on the far side of this creature, and communicated with the apex predators there to create a distraction which will prevent our enemies from discerning that something is amiss with these halls," Guan Zhi replied.
