Guys.... lets a spell that summon a swarm of black spectral Cats to maul the enemy! That spell with the golden hounds exists and is battle magic level despite no being amber and cats are both sneaky naturally and associated with shadows in the case of black cats.

Or would it be better as a Ranald type spell given their associations with bad luck?

Who says the Dwarves aren't? That said the fresh stuff is also needed as fertilizer since greenskin and Skaven materials both have contamination issues and old gong will include them.

Waste management is a key part of Karak stewardship but it comes under Edda rather than Mathilde.

There would be many Orc corpses after Karagil but few live captures which means a glut of food for the We but none that can be kept as reserve. How much can they consume and how much of that do they turn into new individuals who will need to eat in the future? Is anyone gong farming for the We?

How are the weapons, armour and tools of the Skaven and Grobi being recycled?

All interesting questions but below a rather crusty abstraction layer.
It is by far a very smelly topic.

Mm
Lets assume that dwarven waste management is efficient enough that any Niter produce from it is given.
So far, the Dwarves are not.. shall we say, produce enough, for it to be noticeable. Hence our source of niter from Stirland is enough to make an impact.

Sooo, right now we got human, halflings and the waste of ancient dwarves, goblins and orcs and skaven. Im assuming that besides the dwarves nobody filter their sh!t.

It is still a very large deposit (or should we saw.. deposhit) of it.

And at a few crown per (small) barrel i would think before we can profit from the silk and the tax we certainly can profit from the large pile of shit by selling it to barak varr.

@BoneyM Mechanics question, if you're still up: do our books on Ulgu provide a bonus to learning spells at home that stacks with our Learning/Tower of Dusk and Dawn?
...huh. That's quite unexpected as the tower bonus is a matter of wind density while the books are a skill/knowledge aid, but if that's so...

@BoneyM, are there any commonly expected tasks where the Dusk and Dawn tower bonus and ulgu book bonus would stack, or where the books would count but the tower would not? Have books been entirely obsoleted by the construction of that tower?

Almost everything where I had expected the book bonus to apply is something where the tower bonus would, and if they don't stack there seems no point in buying books on our Wind ever. We'd have to get the full book bonus from four culture groups to match the tower which is functionally impossible since most cultures don't even have a tradition of using the Grey Wind.

And I'd count that as a kindness from Boney, frankly.

we do need to sit down with Hubert next social turn and have a talk.

there is a difference between not being good at magic, magic not being your main focus, and trying to avoid learning magic because you wanted to be a knight instead.

you are being paid to be a wizard in K8P while you learn magic, pay off your student loans and get ready for your exam. if you want to play knight do it on someone else's coin and time. preferably after your exam, what you do then is your prerogative.

I want to be nice, but he doesn't need nice, he needs a kick up the ass.

I agree. He fails at being a wizard AND at being a warrior.
If he could leverage his precognition into being a beast of a duelist it would be forgivable, but what he is doing right now is just a waste of time and effort

edit: ninja'd... sigh, still thing that was the most a sensible arrangement, I made sure my intern's got paid... grumble grumble....
They aren't our interns, though.

Think of us as... say, the ambassador of the College of Imperial Magic. As the ambassador, we are technically responsible for all our friendly nationals: if one of them behaves badly, it reflects badly on us, if the King wants one of them for a task he'll probably put us in charge of arranging that, if they have issues during their stay, they can "visit the consulate" (knock on our door) and reasonably expect us to help them, and we regularly have a little get-together so we can connect with other people from our "native country". But they chose to be here of their own volition, they can leave at any time, and how they support themselves is their business.

This isn't a perfect analogy, but it's close enough, I think.

@BoneyM

Would it be possible to use the IFF function in burning shadows and the magical signatures we know exist from the tower project to create a spell that pings off of certain enemy types?

Something like a radar spell that sends out a pulse of ulgu is a circle around 20m that informs the caster of the general direction of a targeted enemy type.

Not from Burning Shadows, information only flows one way.

.... fine, I'll leave it.

@BoneyM how do the ducklings outside of Pan, who works for the Halflings, make ends meet.

I assumed that if we got the letter for them to come to the K8Ps that the King put us in charge of them.

and I assumed that meant that the King put us in charge of them.

and I assumed that meant that we get a stipend to pay them for the work they will be doing in his hold, because part of being in charge of someone is being in charge of paying them.

but apparently that makes me stupid.

Collegiate authority does not derive from payment, it derives from laws that say wizards are only allowed to legally exist under the authority of the Colleges.

You are in charge of them in the sense that you should keep them from causing disasters and if they have a problem they should come to you, not in charge of them in the way you are in charge of Max and Johann.

Do you mean Border Prince mercenary?

Those too, but there's a steady trickle of the Barak Varr mercenaries that usually guard trade caravans seeking something short-term but high-pay.

The spell is, well, spelled out in the scroll. If there was additional information that could help, it'd be in the scroll. You use it to get in the right general area then you search for how your own relationship with your Wind can be used to have the same effect, and at that point being steeped in your Wind might help but more books wouldn't.

Off the top of my head spell-learning is the only one that books don't apply for.

Should this be edited as well?

Not really, the classified part is warpstone.

He seems to be considering it. "My great-great grandfather killed a troll," he says finally. "I used to play with its club when I was young. I wanted to see if I could do the same."
"I've been working on getting my Flaming Sword cast time down. Shaved about a second and a half off."
Have we fought them? We should fight them. For...educational purposes. Definitely not to show off.
Any other use of your times, when you haven't been threatening to revolutionize agriculture?"

"Apart from punching?"

"Yes." Johann shrugs, so you turn your gaze to Panoramia.
Thats it? We got you the best damn punching teacher under this mountain mister! I expect more details and headpats out of you. Ungrateful wizards.

Due to turn structure it's often a bit unclear, but this still is the same turn you got him that teacher. He could tell you about the various rocks he's turned into multiple smaller rocks, but that's about it so far.

Is "like a DWARF!" a thing in this thread yet? Because "like a DWARF!" should be a thing. :)

That would be gneiss, since I don't want him to take "getting to not talc about what he's been doing" for granite. It's our role to look cool and mysterious, so his actions are eroding our mystique, leaving the other wizards jaded, and reducing our ability to petrify them in the future.

Oh well. Eventually these ones will leave, new wizards will arrive, and we can start with a clean slate.

You've got a lot of stones to make puns like that.
