mmm

@BoneyM Something that occurred to me and I apologies if this has already been asked, but does it seem like Battle Magics would be able to permanently deal with vampires?

Obviously not something that can actually be you know done for every vampire, far too dangerous, but theoretically if a Vampire was thrown into the pit of shades, or hit with a successful final transmutation would that vampire be as close to eliminated as its possible for vampires to be short of launching them into the cosmic void?

Could we ask Melkoth or Algard? Getting a Magister Lord or a Patriarch's opinion on battle magic seems like a solid idea.

Everyone's answer is going to be based on their own relationship with Ulgu, and none of them are going to be based on Mathilde's, and most of them are going to be the party line of 'if you think you can handle it, hell yes, if you don't, hell no'. Magic varies hugely from person to person, and the only person who's insight is even slightly relevant to Mathilde is Regimand's because he taught her, and he's spoken his piece.

Except when transformations are as a result of their nature, Vampires gradually revert back to their base form. And the problem with dropping them in the Pit of Shades is you're entrusting their imprisonment to a realm you don't fully understand and can't supervise and hoping it all works out.

Repeat after me: No mechanical benefit will be had for Mat out of Social actions. You are not going to solve Phobia with social actions. That needs real actions to deal with. You can be there as a friend, but not as a therapist, actual aid, and so on. We spent this turn deep in the Tower and Learning. She can stick around to help Roswita deal with the influx of Battle Magic, but she'll do that as a supportive friend of her father.

I'm not really sure Roswita and Mat are friends. They kind of aren't. They are bound by duty, service and Van Hal. Not so much on a personal level.
Well it's a good thing I never mentioned a mechanical benefit then, I also never used the term friends either though I'd like to reach that point.

Also I'm pretty sure having a Wizard as a friend is a pretty decent way to get over a phobia of them.

[X] Empress 'Heidi', to be present for the birth of her child.
[X] Roswita, as she rides out the chaos of the influx of Battle Wizards.
[X] King Belegar, to try to get some idea of where he's at with his crisis of faith.

Had another one: @BoneyM Apprentices play the "What's your worst?" right? Mat has been spending a lot of time in school.

Can we get a social of Wise Magister Dispensing Wisdom in the off hours by joining the game? Mat playing "What's your worst?" with the students, or would that violate the rules? A sort of off the hours lesson for those most diligent? Mat mothering the little bitty apprentices? Hell, one might catch her eye. ;)

EDIT: Or talking to the teachers after class. Maybe talking about the Waggh as an academic amongst peers around the watercooler with the Magisters that hold classes?

We're not thinking about changing careers to Battle Mage, you know. We can learn all the cool 'enemies explode' spells without getting locked into a meditation room between sessions of featuring on the front of heavy metal albums. And at that point it just means that it's a fancy, dangerous tool.

Considering battle magic just means determining if we have a pressing need to sometimes be able to banish people to the shadow realm. Which, I mean, if you throw a vampire in there they're probably never coming back, so I'd think so. There's an awful lot of immortal jerks running around which I'd rather move someplace else.

It's more an icebreaker than something anybody regularly plays. It's not like the answers should be updating regularly, hopefully.

I've been thinking of doing something like this, but I still really want them to show up in a social turn in the future. My worry is that writing omake about the Undumgi would just lead people to not vote for them even more, because "well, we've got omake anyway."
People vote for what they find interesting to read. A good omake about Undumgi will improve their chances for a bit of limelight. Example: a few posts about Oswald brought it to 26 votes/7th place in the voting.

'What's your worst?' is a game among equals, and Mathilde isn't theirs, both in the College and in the Karak. Crashing the social activities of your underlings is an awkward and uncomfortable thing to do.

...this is a thought. OK, I will prepare a propaganda campaign for the next time the social vote rolls around.

I disagree, Mathilde has an obvious interest on trying to help the integration of wizard's go well, as well as in Abelheim's daughter and Stirland.
This could be the turning point that helps her get over that Phobia.

If you do not expect a mechanical benefit, then how do you expect that visiting Roswita will further Mathilde's goal of helping to integrate the wizards? As an aside, I highly doubt that having plentiful and lasting examples of the most dangerous magics known to mankind will really be a turning point for her phobia. At least not in the positive sense.

The social scenes are about what we want to witness, not about affecting anything in a specific way. That may happen, as the Roswita/Kasmir scenes have shown, but it is not why we are supposed to vote for it.

Additionally, I was talking about unique (and implicitly time-gated) situations, or items of utmost importance. Roswita has had a phobia for years, and it would take several actions to mend it, not witnessing one scene. The Battle-Wizards will also be there for years, and nothing is unique about going there now rather compared to if we had gone there last turn or would go there next turn.

Belegar has had a specific crisis of faith just the last turn, which people want to urgently stop from worsening. Bringing Algard exactly the good news he wanted last time is only possible through the specific circumstances of this turn. The emperor will probably only be born once. Roswita and the Battlewizards might be interesting, but they will keep.

'more characterisation for minor characters' faction
I mean, I would classify myself as a cross between that and "I want to see if any minor characters are cool enough to get promoted to major characters, like what happened to Markus, Anton, and Johann."

That said, "more time with favorites" has an obvious structural advantage: there is a central group of popular shiny characters (who are not necessarily the same as the main cast, cf. Heidi), whereas the "more characterization for minor characters" people are, well, spread out among the minor characters. Alas, I do not have a clever solution for this; please do not take my frustration with the natural phenomena at play here with frustration at/criticism of you or how you have structured the voting.

Because I don't consider someone getting used to a Wizard being around a mechanical benefit?
I think any positive interaction wihh a Wizard at all is something that helps with both the phobia and intigration.
