It occurs to me that we've been using Windsage a lot, and Avatar not at all. We really could have used Infiltrator for the last couple of turns, or Assassin for turns both past and future. It really seems like Avatar is going to be the new snakejuice. We'll sit on it for a decade, than use it to revolutionize something.
Also on the diplomacy thing: Don't Mat has very above average Piety, Learning and Martial. There's such a thing as treching too thin and specializing. Mat is it. She would need better diplo if you want to start a New School of Magic. Otherwise, not really. Just stay away from diplo duties and keep honing those edges. As the previous update shows, we still have a lot of ground to make up before we can reliably take on even Tier 3 threats. That was a Vamp Lord. It is still a Tier 3. It was an unnamed Vamp Lord. But at this point we have reliably entered "has Battle Wizard or eqvivialent impact when deployed in or before battle".
A shame that Infiltration isn't an iconic enough part of Mathikde's character that she would earn a trait from it..
I think that getting 25+ Intrigue is probably more important to Mathilde's progression as a Grey Wizard. Generally, if we want a Diplomacy skill, we should see if we can work on Mathilde's mind reading abilities, I think.
My logic is in part that diplo isn't really something you can just avoid. Especially as Mathilde gets higher up in the hierarchy, and gets more and more renowned and involved in things, she'll have to deal with politics of all stripes, from 'keeping a (hopefully growing) gaggle of wizards in line and working together/coexisting' to 'this peak has weird sentient rock people, belegar wants us to poke them and see if we can pull a We with them' to 'not making enemies among the other lord magisters once we get there', all of those things are stuff that diplo is important for. We can (and have) make up for it to some extent with other skills and subordinates, but at the end of the day i think at least Practical diplomacy is both 1. in character for mathilde to both want and acquire and 2. very useful as a fallback.I wouldn't mind getting a few low hanging fruits, but Idk. Diplomacy really isn't our priority right now.
Of course, i also want more intrigue, because it is so often useful, i just think diplo should be in our 'self improvement' queue, preferably with practical diplo as a fairly high up priority to at least get a fallback option to hold us over for now. With adv. infiltration now, advanced assassination is an obvious choice, and then maybe just basic 'psychology' and 'sabotage' skills, which get us up to 25. I'd be pretty happy with that personally, and want to switch to other improvement options than intrigue at that point
*hugs* yeah, sorry, i make sure to put spoilers on them, but i suppose its harder with the inline spoilers to tell what they're about. I'll try and remember to more consistently put a line at the top a la 'more info sheet edits!'I need to stop looking at your posts, your just one big spoiler.![]()
