"Matters in Stirland soak up most of the remaining scraps of your free time. You shuttle documents back and forth until the right signatures are on the right contracts, and at a pace you're not sure how anyone can live with a party of merchants, shopkeepers and clerks set out from Wurtbad to make the long trip to Barak Varr and then to Eight Peaks."

While the thread wasn't wrong in how important it would be, it doesn't make for especially thrilling reading.
Now that we have an outpost in K8P, will we have actions to put them in Barak Varr and Karak Azul?

Just a reminer that if we want the best possible sword we need to vote for this so we have the glomril for the best runes.
[] [ARMOUR] It should be reforged into a worthy commemoration of the Karak's rebirth
Voting to reforge the armor into a worthy commemoration with the expectation that it's going to be used on us feels a little cringe-y. It feels like we're prioritizing ourselves over new K8P Ironbreakers or relations elsewhere, and we might not even be right. Like, what if Belegar decides the commemoration should be giving himself a nicer hammer?

This is the perfect thing to keep morale at the peak in between campaigns. A walking monument to success.

On the other hand, think of how much of a better symbol of the new Karak Eight Peaks that Belegar wants to make reforging it would be. He doesn't just want to restore the old hold, he wants to rebuild a new one, and Mathilde will ensure that it at least has blackjack.

Also, being very pragmatic, just like Belegar, if it's made into six or seven weapons, those symbols can be in more places at once.

Sounds like something to check into with the colleges they'd have extensive information on if this would be a problem.

Yeah, I'm deleting that vote for now. We should probably extend the library for interactions between wizards and buffs from other Winds.

I'm sure it'll happen again with talismans or banners down the line, but those at least make sense to hot-swap in and out, whereas a giant fuck-off weapon is only going to be marginally different in how much it can murder a beastie.
The only thing giving me some inclination is the maybe-get-a-Kragg-Rune with 'the pommel of my greatsword can hit like a cannonball' saboteur possibilities.
Granted, those possiblities do include 'collapsing this section of the Underway on my head'.

Barak Varr, almost certainly. Karak Azul might want a little longer to get used to the rest of the world suddenly being a place that meaningfully exists before any trade outposts get established there.

Okay, at this point I have to ask, is there any problem with a item of Second Portent of Amul we should know about ?

Okay, to skip right past the hinting: Stop trying to shove other magics into Mathilde's brainmeats. You won't like how it turns out.

To be fair, when Kings in epic fantasy stories want to find out "how to remove dragon", they tend to go to their court wizard, not their spymaster.
And then wizard prepares mighty poison - and gives it to brave knight to slay a dragon or to spymaster to poison its food. But it's that brave knight or spymaster that does the deed. As Court Wizard our job is to prepare poison.

That just means we should get some training as an engineer!
The completely sane solution to this problem is to get exactly one item of mental enhancement from every wind, so it balances out, right? :V
How could it possibly go wrong! :V

Would anyone barring maybe Kragg, who never possibly could have snuck into the Karak Nar been as well positioned to deal with that divine clusterfuck? Is there anyone else on the Dwarfs' roster as suited for sneaking into the dark depths of the world and fucking up a Grey Seer's ritual? Of figuring out 'Holy shit they got a Screaming Bell, what do?' before it suddenly comes into play or a horrific ritual is enacted? There's a solid niche that Mathilde's been filling of 'magical rogue who can preempt the enemy's big rituals and surprises that doesn't seem to undermine that she's a wizard.

Are we any less of a wizard for using our magic to enable us to sneak around than we would be handing out Pits of Shade like we're Oprah? Was being a flickering ephemeral shadow sneaking into the Skaven's local seat of power not a demonstration of our magical chops? Did our former Master flex his magical chops by doing things that screamed Wizard, or by poking fun at us and leaving without anyone else the wiser? We're the Wizard of Ulgu- the magic of borders and transitions, of shadows and contrast. One of our role models made her name stealing the Imperial Regalia! Not building and playing around being super sneaky seems less wizardly than otherwise.
Not what I was getting at. On the campaign trail, in our former job in Stirland, and when it comes to our master, none of them involved the explicit job of 'be the person who pokes magical weirdness'. In those roles, we were a spy and sneaky person who used magic to enhance our sneakiness- and the same appears to be true for our master, from the little we've seen of him. Here, however, our role is first and foremost to be the authority on and deal with problems of a weird and mystical nature, not be the sneaky person who sneaks.

Or to put it another way: in the past we've been a stealth expert and spymaster who happened to use magic to enhance those roles, whereas now we're expected to be a magic expert and it just so happens that we're also good at stealth and being a spymaster. So while there will undoubtedly be times when being stealthy is ridiculously useful, it's not our primary role. Our job isn't to go out into the world and preemptively deal with or identify emerging threats, it's to look at the weird stuff and say 'yup, that green glowy stuff is evil, set fire to it'.

In 2e and 4e, the description that says Ranald earned Shallya's love also says that Ranald's gender is a topic of debate.
Ranald... the Waifu?

I'd feel pretty deceived.

Sounds like something to check into with the colleges they'd have extensive information on if this would be a problem.
I think the general idea is that Ulgu, the lore of confusion, does not deal particularly well with its wielder suddenly having a rather unnatural clarity of thought.

A brighter light may cast deeper shadows, but we know that trying to use magical light to generate shadows gets us finicky shadows.

On the other hand, an axe for each of the new holds that contributed would be a very nice gesture to them, along with a gromil cavalry hammer for Wolfhart, and a shortsword for Titus. Mathilde's greatsword would just fit in with that.

This would be diplomatic, would make a powerful and useful statement about allies that help from the start being rewarded, and would also mean that Mathilde wasn't asking for herself.

[X] [SPIDER] The We can be a powerful military ally against the greenskins.

[X] [ARMOUR] It should be returned to the Hold it was stolen from, to build strong ties among the Karaz Ankor.

[X] [RUNE] No purchase.

[X] [ENCHANTMENT] No purchase.

"We shouldn't buy a rune sword! We shouldn't buy a runesword!"

"So are you actually going to vote 'no purchase'?"

*crickets*
I don't think most voters have internalised that they need to vote "No" on ENCHANTMENT or RUNE if they don't want something - this is the third vote I've made to update each of those. I'm worried spending favours on both will win because people who don't want to spend them don't realise they need to vote on it.

I'm not really sure how to fix the system as-is, though.

[X] [RUNE] 25 Favour Sword

Because apparently everyone is spelling favor wrong, and it amuses me. We swing dat bling kill stik at em humies. Edit: I understand that favour is the older, more popular version of the spelling. But in school I was criticized harshly for spelling it as such. My grandmother who raised me used very old English/Irish sounding words. And I was strictly taught by her to write one way, and had to spend most of my school years unlearning that. Seeing it spelled differently from what was acceptable in class felt naughty and amusing to me.
Favor is the American way, favour is the (correct) British way. Just like armor and armour, or color and colour.

[X] [SPIDER] The We can be a powerful military ally against the Skaven.

The We know Skavenand their principal issue historically with them is that the Skaven are organized and occasionally make concerted pushes to hunt them down and drive them off. We secure our flank and gain an interesting ally, providing them with a secure base of operations.

[X] [UNDUMGI] Francesco Caravello, Tilean ex-merchant

This choice more than any other has the best understanding of the role the Undumgi will play in securing trade. He also has a history at Barak Varr and therefore is familiar enough with dwarves that he won't stick his foot in it.

[X] [ARMOUR] Make no recommendation.

This is a dwarf matter. Not our place to make recommendations.

[x] [RUNE] 16 Favour greatsword

I'm firmly in the camp that a 25-point weapon is ridiculously overkill and unnecessary for our purposes. I was quite taken with the 16-point proposal for Shenanigans in Karag Lhune, which was a good middle ground. As I see little hope of fighting the shiny obsession, I shall also approval-vote for no purchase, as I'd rather not waste on a boondoggle.

[X] [RUNE] No purchase.

[X] [RUNE] 15 Favour Sword

As to the rest, I don't think it's necessary at this time.

[X] [ENCHANTMENT] No purchase.

[X] [LIBRARY] No purchase.

It make perfectly sense once you consider that there were three great heroes in the retaking and only one is missing a nice weapon.
Belegar and Kragg already have their nice hammers

I'm honestly in favor of a much lower favor spend, but at this point I just never want to have the "But what if it was more murderous!" Conversation again about a weapon.

I'm sure it'll happen again with talismans or banners down the line, but those at least make sense to hot-swap in and out, whereas a giant fuck-off weapon is only going to be marginally different in how much it can murder a beastie.
Considering this I would advise you to change your armor vote, since is well know stronger runes can be carved in gromril than in anything else.
