Being the first Court Wizard to a Karag is kind of a heavy responsibility insofar as representing "our people". Right now it's a very Radical step.

If we shine with success, then in 50 years it could be merely radical and more holds might start considering having a court wizard.

And in 200 years it might be something that only Conservative karags don't do.

This is the chink in the dam to opening up a whole new potential clientele and sphere of influence for the Colleges. Our success is their success. So hopefully they'll cut us a little slack now and again.

We've already accomplished a legendary deed by murdering the right person at the right moment.

* thanks to having fire immunity, the environmental hazards of the lava aren't a problem, and neither is his fire breath. The Coin and her spells allow her to sneak past the cultists. As he's a spellcasting dragon, the Spelleater rune is also perfect against him. The rune weapon is the final major piece of equipment she needs. As he's asleep, she can almost certainly sneak in and get the first blow without him being alerted, but after then she's just survivable enough that with a good enough weapon she can finish the job and take him out when that first blow wakes him up. She's not there yet, but it's something we can aspire to.

Because we're the court wizard, not the court spymaster or assassin. Yeah, we can help out by doing sneaky and assassin stuff, but it shouldn't be our first concern except when it intersects with weird magic stuff. Plus, 'sneaking in and stabbing someone' isn't exactly legendary material by the standards of dwarfs- and this is a dwarven weapon we'd be creating a legend for.

It's less economical, but more cool and killy. So in Warhammer, it's perfectly reasonable.

Skaven are weaker, but they are more kunnin, so it's high Intrigue fight.

Thinking about it, the twenty five favour option probably synergises exceptionally well with the timing of the gromil vote. At another time there might be much more pushback at Mathilde being one of the people getting a reforged gromil item, but if Kragg personally crafts it and engraves runes on it, no one would dare make a peep anywhere in Karaz Ankor, for fear of the frown that would result.

This gives cover for Belegar to give such a reward to his other allies. For example, I think Titus would could well deserve a gromil shortsword, which would be hard for him to get in other circumstances.

This applies both ways, the twenty five favours also makes it much more likely that Belegar decides he can give Mathilde a gromil item.

It's a reforged item that celebrates the refounding of Karak Eight Peaks. Belegar was very, very clear about this. It's not a foothold or an outpost, he rules Karak Eight Peaks reborn. Not Karak Two Peaks. Some of it may temporarily have some squatters, but that's not the point.

Using the sword to kick the squatters out as a symbol of how we're here to stay makes the legend even more effective.

I see the hoboing part as being a critical prerequisite for something to be murder-hoboing. Being a state sponsored trouble shooter isn't being a murder hobo. Being a murder hobo requires you being a drifting, rootless adventurer operating essentially outside society. Mathilde is the opposite of that. She's a member of a government.

I'd expect us to spend either one or zero actions a turn studying, just as we've spent no actions this turn. Basically, the EIC option has consumed the slot we could have placed on it. Court Wizard seems much more about being magical James Bond, going out and dealing with magical threats,
 
I haven't caught up yet but wanted to share my thoughts. Will Vote when I reach the end of the thread

@BoneyM Question can we buy books about Waystones and Hedges and if so what kinds and for what price? Asking because having any info for that sounds useful for future projects.

I also feel we should get some books about Trolls given we have a mountain full of them and Greenskins have already used Trolls before. Maybe getting books about the specific Skaven Clans here would be a good idea too since I think our current Skaven books are just general knowledge, not specifics.

Also for the spiders, it's worth noting that they apparently found hunting greenskins harder than Skaven even if the greenskins apparently had trouble pushing them out. But something to note is that the We spiders were in a goblin occupied hold not one with very many orcs which means they had trouble putting goblins down imagine how hard they would find Orcs.

Just to be clear: I wanted to go that route. I wanted Mathilde go around and remove threats. I belived it would be awesome. I voted for it. Unfortunately, that vote lost, and Mathilde function in K8P is researcher and problem solver. It does not include sabotage and assasination.

To be fair, when Kings in epic fantasy stories want to find out "how to remove dragon", they tend to go to their court wizard, not their spymaster.

Left out Enchantments - getting an item might help with the spiders just in case the Ambers leave, but it's not a solution to communication or coordination problems on its own - I'm pretty sure we'll have to dedicate at least one proper action to that.

Just for reference the QM has mentioned if Belegar takes the ally option with the Spiders he'll be able to talk to the Colleges for commissioning the talk to beasts item.

Considering that spiders for most of the times are enemies with Dwarves, I rather we convince the dwarves to have a sort of military alliance than trying to integrate them since that might have a better chance in convincing the Dwarves to actually accept them. Being useful goes a long way in buddying up with people in power.

While I do find the Tilean guy to be the most suitable and the Brettonian Knight to be the most unique, I want mah boi OSWALD to the most hammiest leader in K8P. Dude has a charm and from what I've seen, he is the most easiest to manipulate. Furthermore, the fact he might be an engineer and probably has some connections to Nuln might be useful in regards to integrating some Dwarven weaponry into the Undumgi or getting more big GUNS.

Considering the diplomatic fiasco, I do find this to be a good way to show that K8P is doing well and that it can help mend the reputation hit that Belegar had taken during his interaction with Thorgrim. Dude still needs support early on in the rebuilding and mending his reputations with his best trade partners (for the moment) is the best way to go.

Mathilde needs to extend her collection since this is the perfect time for it considering her new sweet crib. Also, I just want to imagine that her romance novels are placed inside her super secret hidey hole. The same place she placed the Liber Mortis.

Also, I just noticed something. @BoneyM, I didn't notice Mathilde doing anything in regards to building an EIC outpost in K8P. Was that done in the background or was that included in the Anton section?

That's good to know, I still think we should stay on top of that particular bugbear like a particularly onery dragon. Its not a thing we want to fuck up imo.

Court Wizard, in this context, is magical trouble shooter. Given where we are, that means that the Court Wizard is the person sent out to kill magical threats like casters or magical monsters, just as the military adviser is sent out to deal with conventional threats. Being court wizard just determines what kind of enemy you're focused on.

Given this, a spellcasting dragon would fall squarely in the court wizard category.

Also, the dwarves have been trying and failing to kill this particular dragon for three thousand years.

A lot of that discussion was from before the Moratorium had lifted, and some of those people seem to be elsewhere now. There are still 19-20 hours left in the vote, I'm sure they'll vote in due time.

We'll have the beast wizards on hand for a while iirc, I'm not sure it's an issue but I can understand the worry.

@BoneyM

Will the Amber mages keep on top of the spiders for now (phrasing) and ensure that we're communicating if Belegar decides to ask them to move to another area and join us as an ally against for instance the greenskins?

While the thread wasn't wrong in how important it would be, it doesn't make for especially thrilling reading.
