I'm honestly shocked by how little traction the knight has gotten and how enthusiastic everyone is about Badass Merchant Guy. This is probably a combination of "people who know more about the setting have reservations about the Brettonian thing" and "people who were hyped about Steward and expanding the EIC wanting another mercantile type around."

But she's so cool. Mad respect for someone whose response to society censuring her for trying to be a good person was to flip them off and do the same thing, only harder and for other people.
Marry her to the Tilean. Undumgi battle couple, easy.

Approval voting against inviting them to be a member. There is such a thing as too optimistic, they are simply too alien and too difficult to communicate with. And if things go badly, it's a question of why the very respected Mathilde thought it would ever work out. Because honestly, letting them just go away is already a great outcome.

So, here's my list of pro and con arguments for the 25 sword, best as I remember/understand. Hopefully, that'll cut down on repeated arguments. At least you could just point whoever at this list. Tell me if I missed something, or misrepresented your view (though I'll go to sleep soonish).
You'll note an imbalance on the number of points, and I admit I am biased. That said, I've done my best to fairly represent both sides, and the refutation (but not the replies to that, because I'm not insane). If you think something is missing/misrepresented, tell me and I'll fix that. While I'm still awake anyway. Or when I'm awake again.

Pro:
-It's really cool (I put that first, because it's my main reason)
--That's not a very good reason. And a lesser weapon would still be really cool
-It's a nice symbol, both for Mathilde and for a better future for dwarfs
--it's silly to give such a symbol to a manling wizard
-It will make the legend of the retaking
-It's a way to remove risks/mitigate failure
--We already have seed+belt for that, and some risks shouldn't be taken
-It can be a useful tool for sabotage
--We don't know that. It could be useless for anything but murder
-It will let us be killier in open battle, therefore earning favors
--we shouldn't be in the front line, we should be dispelling or casting/ We'll get enough favor anyway
-It will allow more/harder targets for assassination
-- We shouldn't be trying for those/ we don't need it for that
-We would have to replace a lesser weapon eventually, wasting its cost. This has to be bought in one go.
--Mathilde's role isn't facepuncher, it's Grey Magister. She doesn't need this level of killing power, and we'll always have something to spend the favor on
-we are as much a knight as a wizard, so we need a great weapon
-- I want to play a Grey Magister, not a knight (It's been done)/a lesser weapon is good enough

Con:
-A lesser weapon is good enough
--given the trajectory so far, we'll outgrow it soon. We're already in Kragg's ballpark
-We can use the favor on better things (Training for self, Training for others, Books, Stuff for EIC)
--Training for self: lots that can be gotten free first,
Training for others: True, but we don't have many subordinates, and we'll have a fair amount left anyway
Books: The effect is small, compared to a high level runic item. And we'll have favor left
EIC: It's already doing really well, it doesn't need the help. And we'll have favor left
All of these can also be bought more incrementally.
-We wouldn't use it a lot.
--We have consistently chosen to fight in the main line during open battle/ Assassination
-It can get stolen, helping our opponents.
--Runefangs and the Warhammer haven't been stolen by Skaven (or something else), nor has our Belt. It's also really dangerous GMing, and only likely to happen if we really screw up
-Lots of fighting is just not what I want to see from the quest/it's not the character I want
--Fair enough. I'd say it fits her character and other accomplishments, but it is a step towards a bigger league (though I'd say that's inevitable anyway)
-A such a weapon would be so powerful that other capstones like snake juice Qyash or theurgy will make Mathilde unplayable
--Trust the GM. Also, Warhammer is full of overwhelmingly powerful people.

I think the conflict boils down to two main disagreements:
1) Is this a "good" (efficient, interesting, helpfull) use of favors?
2) Is this the kind of story development I want to see?

You may or may not be trying to do it, but "*laughter intensifies*" is not going to result in anything but annoying people.
And I am saying this very much as person who agrees with you on all counts there: 15 sword is already legendary + trying to make Mathilde into some sort of swiss army knife which can stab Bloodthirsters in the face with one hand while inventing Theurgy with the other and doing god knows what else with the third Ulgu hand is...

Well, it's certainly peculiar, especially considering that most legendary lords outside of, like, Literally Nagash Alone, are either doing one thing or another, not trying to be legendary warrior, wizard, researcher and priest at once.

And then they dare to lecture me about how trying to be a better assassin than some elf swamp hick is overly ambitious and I am being a fool for thinking of it.
We talking bout Alith Anar over here?

On the rune weapon thing should we get a hand and half sword instead of a greatsword in order to have the option to wield a staff alongside it at a later date? Seems to be a best of both worlds thing keeps a two handed option that we're trained for and adds a one handed option that we may never use but could be nice to have.

I think WoG is that we'll get that automatically unless we specifically demand otherwise.

I am in favor of 25-favor weapon, but I propose to ask for a "weapon", not a "sword". It is a matter of politeness and psychology. Kragg is smart and knows us and our preference, so he'll still make a sword. But in the first case it is because manling said so, while in the second it is his own decision as a crafter.

Scenario 1: We ask for a sword, Kragg makes it, but resents it because manling told him - master Runesmith - what to make and it is a sword. Quality somewhat suffers - any imperfections are manling's fault for not asking for a proper weapon.
Scenario 2: We ask for a weapon. Kragg knows that we fight with a sword and while he dislikes making them, his crafter ethics won't allow him to make a weapon incompatible with one's fighting style (since it is dealing in bad faith). He makes a sword in the end, but since it was his decision this time (and we trusted him to make him), he goes extra mile to correct any deficiencies in his technique.
For me, a greatsword is an important part of Mathilde's legend. So it is for BoneyM, to the degree that we get a special greatswording trait if we master greatswording, and training other weapon skills will never give us a trait.

I am not willing to risk Kragg forging us an axe and pointing us to the nearest dwarven warrior to learn how to use a proper weapon, because we obviously deserve something better than a sword.

If you think something is missing/misrepresented, tell me and I'll fix that. While I'm still awake anyway. Or when I'm awake again.

The sabotage/anti-fortification potential of a really good weapon.
Other things can be bought incrementally as we get more favours over time, a super weapon has to be bought at once.

Seems to be a best of both worlds thing keeps a two handed option that we're trained for and adds a one handed option that we may never use but could be nice to have.

It's been confirmed that any runic 'greatweapon' Mathilde gets would be that.

Honestly, when it comes to favour I'd kind of like the amount we spend to be out of our hands, or even for there not to be a favour system at all- for it to instead basically be a case of us saying 'we want a really badass sword so we can ranger stuff better', and for Kragg and whoever to decide on what's appropriate in scale for that and us. I know that's not possible under this system, but still.

Well @TotallyNotEvil convinced me on the symbolic value of the sword

It's another ~12 minutes or so to start voting for the rune weapons. Can we at least wait until then?

And if we're going for legend, we should do it properly.

[][RUNE] A 25 favour weapon to commemorate Mathilde's part the in retaking of Karak Eight-Peaks.

We'll probably get a sword, because that's what Mathilde used, but the less we constrain the dwarves the more interesting a thing they'll get us.

[X] [UNDUMGI] Soizic, Bretonnian Questing Knight

Revoting with the sword added. Also again on the Bretonnian-most are pretty arrogant, but she's willing to fight on foot with foreigners. That puts her head and shoulders above most others for empathy, and her gender puts her at much less unorthodox. Give her a chance.

[ ] [SPIDER] The We can be allowed to scutter off into the Underway, never to be seen again.

The safe option. Open the door, let them scuttle out and be done with them. No risk, no reward.

[ ] [SPIDER] The We can be a powerful military ally against the greenskins.

Always good to have allies when facing enemies that outnumber you severely like this. There's a trick to it, as goblin spider-riders are a thing so I suspect they have some...I hesitate to say 'institutional knowledge' but some familiarity with how spiders work, but it wouldn't be a terrible option.

[x] [SPIDER] The We can be a powerful military ally against the Skaven.

As with the greenskins, good to have allies when facing foes without number and with the added bonus of not worrying about Skaven spider-riders. Of the two military ally options, I'd say this is the one to go for. Not my preferred option however.

[x] [SPIDER] The We can be a welcome addition to the multispecies community of Karak Eight Peaks.

It would be a risk, but a potentially profitable one. We would need some way to maintain communications, which would likely be either 'keep the Ambers on staff to serve as translators' or invest in a magic item that lets you talk to spiders (which might be the better route even if we stick with keeping the ambers on-hand). Aside from (probably?) benefiting from limited defensive alliances ("We will help defend this peak if attacked"), just having a source for spider silk and their venom would be a nontrivial trade good and crafting material. I don't know what the chemists could do with it, but I imagine the rangers wouldn't turn up their noses at paralytic agents that could slow down, say, a troll or ogre. This is the higher risk, higher reward option and I'd advocate for it.

[ ] [SPIDER] Make no recommendation.

"Just the facts, ma'am your highness."

Overall, while I like the idea of bringing them into the community of Karak Eight Peaks, I suspect "military allies against the Skaven for now, with the potential for later integration if they prove themselves reliable" would be a much easier sell to King Belegar.

[ ] [UNDUMGI] Oswald Oswaldson, Imperial veteran

Looks like this is advancing the Undumgi as a military asset along Imperial lines. Probably not a terrible choice for that, and given that he's apparently a Wissenlander probably won't have too much friction with the dwarfs. Possible he'd lean on the Engineer's Guild to let them play with prototype toys ("It's only been in the works for a few decades, and it still needs maintenance every seven years like clockwork, but...well, a few field trials might be just the thing for it.") but I'd hesitate to unequivically advocate for that.

[x] [UNDUMGI] Francesco Caravello, Tilean ex-merchant

I'm thinking this leader would advance the Undumgi as merchants and traders. Good for convoy escort but probably not military assets, favoring Tilean Dogs-of-War pattern 'hire mercenaries to do the dying' military, but for a place that has the potential to be as wealthy as Karak Eight Peaks that's unlikely to be a particular hardship. We'd probably want to get Heidick here sooner rather than later to help keep an eye on him but I'm sure that between the Dwarfs' reputation for being tough but fair, a grey wizard's reputation for knowing everything you don't want them to know, and a Ranaldan underworld I think we could keep a lid on him.

[ ] [UNDUMGI] Soizic, Bretonnian Questing Knight

The Bretonnian I'm of two minds about. She's likely the best cavalry option we're going to find, and Ranald knows the Dwarfs aren't likely to bring cavalry of their own, but I don't know what to expect of her as a leader. Besides, as a Questing knight she's supposed to, you know, quest. It's possible that she will up and leave one day (possible but unlikely). Maybe keep her as a cavalry commander but not leader of the Undumgi?

[ ] [UNDUMGI] Make no recommendation.

Being the one to recommend someone for the job and being seen to play kingmaker improves our stature in the community. If authority flows from the penthouse, then let it be seen to.

I suspect that the two that aren't chosen for the Undumgi aren't going to fade into the woodwork, but become the #2 and #3 people among the Undumgi.

[ ] [ARMOUR] It should be worn by the first Ironbreaker of the reborn Karak Eight Peaks

"We are up-and-coming, we are mighty, we have prestige." Not terrible, but while I certainly want to see Ironbreakers in Karak Eight Peaks one suit of armor isn't quite enough to make more than a morale difference.

[x] [ARMOUR] It should be reforged into a worthy commemoration of the Karak's rebirth.

"Karak Eight Peaks lives again, we wrested the mountains from the grobi and this armor from the raki." A bit better, but melting something old to make something new probably causes a bit of grumbling. I could be persuaded to support this, but I don't quite yet.

Fake edit: the narrative of the taking of Karak Eight Peaks and a legendary weapon has played to my heartstrings.

[x] [ARMOUR] It should be returned to the Hold it was stolen from, to build strong ties among the Karaz Ankor.

Ties among the Karaz Ankor are important, moreso for a young hold and especially for one as potentially divisive as King Belegar is liable to make it. I argue that the diplomatic gains are more important than armor or a commemorative plaque, let the Worlds Edge Armor be returned to those from whom it was taken.

[ ] [ARMOUR] Make no recommendation.

If there was anything that was dwarf business, it would be this. Much as the dawi like Mathilde, a studious silence may prove the prudent course of action...but silence isn't what I'd want to hear.

[ ] [LIBRARY] No purchase.

Saves money, but at the expense of knowledge.

[ ] [LIBRARY] Write-in.

I eventually want the Library of Weber to have similar connotations to the Library of Alexandria, but that's for something in the future. For now, 'hundreds of silver spent on trashy romance novels' sounds like an entirely reasonable expense. And if we invest in Bretonnian novels we could use that to teach ourselves the language of Chivalry!

[ ] [RUNE] No purchase.

Saves favor, and we'll want to keep some saved up for a rainy day.

[ ] [RUNE] Write-in.

That said, favor unspent is favor unused, and while we can deed our worldly possessions to people I believe the dwarf favor evaporates on death. We'll have to spend it on something, and while I'm not swayed by arguments about getting a fancy new sword (I'm still hoping to make an Occam's Greatsword of our very own) I think we could spend favors nudging things here and there.

[ ] [ENCHANTMENT] No purchase.

[ ] [ENCHANTMENT] Write-in.

If we're keeping the spider-bros, we'll want someone able to talk to them. We could keep the Ambers for that purpose, but while I'd love the opportunity to bring them and Panoramia under our wing as well I don't know that the thread would rejoice at the loss of personal actions, however justified. So instead "do you have a magic 'talking to giant spiders' we could borrow for a few decades" seems like something the Amber Brotherhood would be okay with us asking for in light of us looking after their journeymanlings for a few months. Two (or three?) favors well-spent in service to the forces of Order, if only for a modest gain.

Also some sort of cognative enhancements and I seem to recall aspecting the lab spaces were mentioned?

(I'll fill in votes for gear as I can later, but here's my initial votes)

Personally, I'm hoping for something like the Aranea from Mother of Learning.

"Eight limbs, each with a six-shooter. Every spider is a one-being fusilade just waiting to hapen."
*Longbeard takes a hit from the 'forget something I just learned' flask*

You tie the cornerstones of said legend into the making of a weapon, because nothing stokes the fires of the heart like a legendary weapon that ties the tale together.

It's the chave de ouro, the golden key, the perfect high note. I urge you, vote to reforge the glory of the past into a symbol of the future. Vote to found a legend.
There needs to be a raucous cheering rating honestly.
I get you think it's cool, but chill, eh?

You're acting as if Mat is the hero of the story. And she is, of our story. She'll certainly have a prominent place in the stories told.

But you're pushing that whole inspirational savior angle a bit too hard there mate. King Belegar and Kragg the Grim will be heroes, more told and sung off, than some umgi Wizard. Not to mention the literral thousands who fought there. So chill, ok?

She a hero of the story of K8P, but not "The Hero". That's almost certain to end up being Belegar. He is King after all, that has perks. Though Runelords are kings as well, so Kragg might take if for splitting the heavens and the earth. It was certainly impressive enough.
