I know you don't mean to, but let's not risk that getting turned into a conversation on you know what.
Oh come now, that's a bit much. They say that in the dusty records of Karaz a Karak, there is a book that records his childhood. Kragg disapproves of talking about his youth, but he disapproves of removing the record more.
Yeah, this... honestly, Roswita is a failure as an Elector Countess for this alone. She needs those taxation rights to stay in charge because she won't be able to pay the army if she lacks an income stream.WHAT?!
*Screams in Economics!*
Dear Ranald, Roswita. I just wanted you to eat a bit of humble pie. I didn't think anyone could possibly be stupid enough to do this... This might just top nearly losing the runefang.
Also:
Mathilde Weber would never dream of abusing her magic to get rich.
...
Because she really doesn't need to . She already owns a 1/3 stake in West Stirland. And best gunpowder ingredients are still being quietly sold to the Dwarves.
And the EIC is still growing...
Are you saying that Anton can't get whoever he wants on his own? Please don't throw Anton to the wolves, we are his best chance of being happy, just wait until we have the K8P (we can choose the less likely to kill us options), he deserves happiness.
If you're doing Wilhelmina she goes under "Marry them..."
...are you suggesting he should marry Asarnil? Because if that's an option, I'm all for supporting it.Are you saying that Anton can't get whoever he wants on his own?
He has already roped in a dragon, a True Love Interest is child's play compared to that!
I don't mind it. We already own...a lot of money. That debt will be gone within a handful of turns at most and then we'll be making as much as we did from Asarnil's book every six months. We're going to have to get this sorted with the Colleges and we will not be able to continue owning this much personally without going into some kind of special arrangement regarding it, which will probably require either us or someone else from the College to be actively overseeing this money and making sure it is directly and unquestionably poured into projects which are in the interest of the Empire.
Until proven otherwise I will assume they are going for the OT3 option.
Yeah, this... honestly, Roswita is a failure as an Elector Countess for this alone. She needs those taxation rights to stay in charge because she won't be able to pay the army if she lacks an income stream.
The army is what, 40,000 men? And we were hiring veterans for a 10g/six month part-time job, as spymaster, and were assured by the GM that it was reasonable at the time. Julia was maintaining a townhouse for us with several staff at comparable rates, but let's assume she was paying her people well and the veterans were making twice as much as a full-time soldier just to be generous here, and further that they're paying for their own equipment, clothing, food, and ammunition out of their own pay, meaning that we can say each of the 40,000 men in the Army of Stirland are being paid 10g/year.
These assumptions almost certainly make the army appear much cheaper than it is, but even so, that's 400,000g. How much of that money comes from trade taxes and tariffs as compared to property taxes, poll taxes, taxes on the nobility, and so forth? Difficult to say. But given the scale of the funds being worked with here I'd say that it's a pretty sure bet that Mathilde, entitled to 36% of the profits from an economic juggernaut whose scale can almost certainly be reasonably measured by the standard "what fraction of the army's maintenance cost does it make in profits", will be making thousands of gold annually. If the EIC is making 1% of the army's maintenance cost Mathilde would still be making over a thousand a year.

It hasn't been confirmed to not be an option, so by the standards of shipping I learned in the Touhou fandom he's definitely a possibility!...are you suggesting he should marry Asarnil? Because if that's an option, I'm all for supporting it.
Sold the right to collect certain taxes, I believe. In the short term it's a profit for her, but over time she could have earned a lot more from collecting the taxes herself- and it would have been as a continual stream, rather than a single lump sum that is easily squandered on one or two mega projects.

To be fair to Roswita, it was explicitly said that her Steward was the one selling her taxation rights. Roswita was only directly credited with selling real estate relatively cheaply. And that's only because she doesn't know demand is about to sky-rocket.Yeah, this... honestly, Roswita is a failure as an Elector Countess for this alone. She needs those taxation rights to stay in charge because she won't be able to pay the army if she lacks an income stream.

Judging by how the vote is going, no he can't. We said we would think about it.Are you saying that Anton can't get whoever he wants on his own?

She's been doing very well at her Martial endeavors, but she's been failing hilariously at Stewardship. Basically she's sacrificing long-term income for her war. She sold people the right to collect taxes and pocket them, and she's sold off her shares of the EIC. This means that when the money she got from that runs out she runs into problems getting more. Additionally, she's spending massively on arming her army with guns, losing a massive portion of her army in the process.
I'd normally just be like 'Here you go Grey College, thousands of gold for you. Give me some Favor and we'll call it square.'Yeah, this... honestly, Roswita is a failure as an Elector Countess for this alone. She needs those taxation rights to stay in charge because she won't be able to pay the army if she lacks an income stream.

Pretty sure we're talking about Anton's love interests here. At least I was.
Unless keeping that corner of the records dusty was tradition going back a thousand years.Oh come now, that's a bit much.
I'm sure they keep their records well-maintained, they're Dwarves after all.
