Oh fck yes. The update was amazing, the victory crushing, Mathilde got personal kudos from Kragg, and now we reap our rewards.

Everyone who wants it, for Mathile, the Lady of the Peak, of Morning Fog and Evening Shadow! Lady of Undumgi!

And if that isn't a magicly significant location, I'll eat my hat. Where a god was robbed. That is where we build our shrine to Ranald.

This is gorgeous. Do you think we can bring down that statue of Renald-as-Wolf, and put that in the big chamber where the theft happened? Somewhere almost out-of-the-way, but with a clear view of where it all went down and a pillar made from the stone of the broken idol to hold it up?

I think the Ulrican/Protector worship overlap would be large.

immediate possibilities are the penthouse that had the treasure in Karag Nar,

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE this is where we went to curl up and sleep on a mound of treasure after helping a god rob another god, it's the place the old warchiefs claimed so it's Da Best, and it is one of the peaks so if we are tapping into the geomantic configuration it is where we want to be.

Ok, let me make a character based pitch. I want us to interact with humans, I think it'll keep Mathilde grounded and make it easier to have mostly dwarf friends. So, Panoramia, who I think will be an easy in as long as we hang out in K8P, but whom we'd deal with in a professional capacity more if we were mayor. Wulfhart, who I like and want to cultivate and maybe court, who we would be dealing with a lot, as an equal, if we were the mayor. Johann, whom I think if we cut in on the snekjuice as a potential replacement for warpstone in his reverse engineering, would work hard as hell for us.

And last but far from least, Belegar. Whom I think we've forged as strong a relationship with in three months as we had with Van Hal after years. Who really is Best Dwarf right now, and is 100% behind the way we play our game. I want to be there for his moment of glory before all his people.

An amazing update and a glorious finish to the expedition.
Some highlights:
- Wolf being cute.
- The Journeymanlings basking in the wisdom of their elder. Also bonding.
- Shamans blow themselves up. Mathilde helped.
- The mercs prove once and for all that they are the badbest asses south of Black Fire Pass. While the archers prove they are in fact soldiers.
- Kragg-senpai gave Mathilda-chan that much coveted Notice.

Something to note: K8P is now, to the best of my knowledge, the only place in the world with a major permanent population of three races. There are trading hubs that have all kinds coming through but nowhere else have Dwarfs, Humand and Halflings settled down to live as neighbours.

The vote… ultimately I want to settle down in this place we fought for. Where we have friends and opportunities. Side benefit: we don't need to transport our hoard-bed.

[X] You could help the Undumgi and the Ulricans establish themselves.
Spending a decade as mayor of a manling Karag is a heck of a thing to put on your record. The College would likely be ecstatic to have a Wizard in such a position, so long as we keep sending in our reports and the occasional research result. Might even become a regular destination for Journeymanlings.

[X] Write a series of papers on the magical phenomena you witnessed. Or better yet, get your Journeymanlings to do the actual writing.

Science and magic. While I don't think they should be the primary focus of Mathilde's life they most definitely should by a constant secondary one.

While I like these I like being mayor more and the votes are such that a vote for being spymaster is a vote against being mayor.

[ ] Join Karak Azul as they raid and scout in force the other portions of the Karak.
Campaign turns become somewhat wearisome. I want six month blocks of time to play with.

[ ] All this time away has made you miss your friends. Visit Anton and Wilhelmina.
In Stirland we will be an outsider meddling in the affairs of others.

[ ] You're going to have a rough time explaining your windfall to the Bursars. Better to get that over with.
Mathilde charts her own course.

[ ] You've been out of touch for a while. Head to Barak Varr and then Altdorf, and catch up with what's been happening in the Empire.
I would sooner build upon what we have than start afresh.

[ ] Not every sellsword will accept King Belegar's offer of employment. Travel with them.
Mystery box. It might have a boat, but better to just pick the boat.

Edit: Actually rather surprised at how many people are voting for the 'Collage' and 'Empire' options.

Gar is brave and -ak denotes a concept, so it would be bravery as an abstract concept. Bravery as the positive attribute is Gar-az, because sufficiently important concepts get 'promoted' to -az, which usually signifies a physical place.

That doesn't seem quite correct, I thought that the root word of concepts and traits and such was something physical. So using western iconography gar would be lion as lion is a common metaphor for bravery. Ofc this could be just another inconsistency that all languages have.

I am honestly somewhat excited to see what all the money the stirlanders will bring back will do to the province. I mean they are farmers that want to buy land and Stirland has a bunch of land for sale right now. The ripple effect of all that money entering the economy and moving around as homes are bought and tools are made could really kick start a massive economic growth period for them. Combine that with the roads that has been built and you have a lot of economic activity going on there.

You know what, I'm convinced. Mathilde organized the Stirland Watch. She has the institutional knowledge to set up the Roadwardens. And they won't have a problem with serving the Protector.

Make Mathilde the Mayor of a major Karak, on the best road to Ind. Make her a tower and a scholar, who comes down to town to solve issues and talks to the Ulricans. No Sigmar to annoy her, either. For in truth, where else but in distant Arabia, would you find a town ruled by a Wizard in the Old World? From a tavern no less?

Everyone who wants it, for Mathile, the Lady of the Peak, of Morning Fog and Evening Shadow! Lady of Undumgi!

EDIT: The trade routes and links with old friends and the Grey order can be used as hooks for story lines in the Empire, and Mat will be busy enough trying to turn Mercs into a citilized town/nation, with Dwarves and Halflings around. And the backdrop of Skaven plots and Orc fighting will make for an energetic time. As well as actually securing that Road in the mountains and all the issues that come with trade, once people and expeditions start trying their luck. Think of all the cultist that might try and use trade caravans to move in and start shit. This will be fun.

EDIT2: Would that work @BoneyM ? Asking the dwarves for the space for the Shrine to Ranald in Karag Lhune, where Mork was robbed, or would that be for later turns?
While I agree with your sentiment, your vote format makes a mess of a tally. And maybe I could convince you not to vote for writing papers? As the vote stands now, the third place in the tally is contested between papers and undumgi, with the first spot being claimed by wizard tower (basically unassailable lead) and the second by spymastering externally (rather comfortable lead for now), and undumgi seems like a more important option.

Wissenland, Averland, and Reikland have large populations of all three races in their cities as well.

There are other non-noun roots, like 'dal' for old/good, 'guz' for eating/drinking, 'lok' for intricate/praiseworthy, 'stok' for hit/strike. It could be that this is part of the Dwarven 'if it's important enough it counts as an actual physical object' weirdness.

But.. But.. Papers! We need to spread our gift of dry boredom to the next generation. We are in the perfect place to teach our art of sleep inducing writing to new people! What a gift we have! Abelhelm van Hal, leading a joint force of humans, halflings, dwarfs, wizards, and one dragonrider elf, dies on campaign in Stirland/Sylvania

I had a bit of a grim thought here: What would have happened if Mathilde had died instead of Abelhelm?

The Drakenhofs would still have fallen. The Expedition would still have gathered 50 years earlier. There wouldn't be a Grey Magister on a shadowsteed to do a last-minute call for more forces. But there would be a friendly Elector Count who could have sent a more organized force. So, presumably, there'd still have been a good chance the Expedition would still have been successful, if not as fast or successful without our wizard hero out in the field helping.

...Man, I just have to say again how great this quest has been even just from the start. We were an advisor to an Elector Count who was well qualified himself for being a fantastic main character of a more normal CK2 quest. Right from the start, Abelhelm was sabotaged by vampires. That's basically tuesday for Stirland. But unlike basically everyone who came before him, he didn't take that sitting down. The minute he had his own house put back together, he put together a huge and super-supported Purge of the Haunted Hills. We could easily have been advisor to any number of more normal or even incompetent leaders. But instead we got someone who, basically, kicked off a series of world-changing events by accomplishing stuff no one had ever dared to dream possible. Abelhelm van Hal's name better make the history books, because he deserves it.

Oh, hey, do you remember that but way back when we were looking at a map and trying to figure out why our northern neighbor was willing to contribute so much to our Drakenhof campaign? We got the insight that they wanted to tie the two Rivers together via a short portage. We also just opened Death Pass. So there's a huge long NEW trade route that could run from Karak Azul to the ends of the empire, and we have a trading company based right in the middle of it. Invest!

Ie, I want to keep interests in stirland and visit our friends on occasion, but focus on rebuilding her life in K8P after losing everything she worked so hard for in stirland.

And not among the least of his contributions is mentoring Mathilde - she would be a much different and probably much less historically important character without him and exposing the grand conspiracy - but that is not going into history books.

I kind of wanted to scout internally, but I figure we'll have a lot of time available in the future to kill stuff underground if we're so inclined. I also figure we can write a paper evangelizing Mathilde's MAP without making it a major focus of our character.

I agree, which is why I like visiting Karaz-a-Karak as an option for us. We would be working towards focusing on outward spymaster work, which would mean traveling to different countries, including the Empire. And if we are traveling through the Empire for work, there's nothing stopping us from checking in on our friends. Especially since we are one of the fastest ways to send messages to different countries.

But undumgi is more time sensitive. If we do this now, it'll be by acclimation- else they'll already have a commander. Come on, just a few turns before papers? We have the research locked in!

I've got a idea about armament options and a couple of questions, @BoneyM if you get a chance.

Essentially, If two Greatswords would fall under 'rule of cool', would carrying a Greatsword plus Runed Great(ish)axe do likewise?

Yes, a sword is the symbol of the Grey Order, and we're pretty synonymous with being The Grey Greatsword (well, Flamberge) Wizard now.
However, we're also No.1 manling BFF to Belebro, Dwarfbestie, and all.
So, extending our armament to carry a Dawi warriors preferred armament as well might be cool, too? And it seems we could learn to use it reasonably quickly with proper instruction.

Then we could drop hints to surly Runelords about how much we really admire those fine Runic Greataxes, and my what an impressive Rune you have there.
Then, as suggested, when he's ready, also do a Maximillian-forged collaborative Ulgu-enchanted Greatsword, and have the best of both worlds.

All good so far?

If so, then comes my maybe less reasonable idea.
We'd also like a Channeling Staff/Grounding Implement, which from what I've understood of the earlier conversation is in most circumstances, best in Wood(?)
So- and please knock me back if it's too much, it's just a thought- could, hypothetically, the haft of a Runic Great(ish)Axe be such a Staff? Maybe get a little help from Panoramia sourcing the wood from the local slopes, Turn a standard staff, and give it a Runed axehead? I suppose it hinges on if Runes are self-contained enough to be unaffected by Ulgu channeling through the same implement.

Why would we want to command those guys? That's not my idea of fun. Trust me, them getting another commander is nothing but good.
