Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

I think that was a pretty good outcome. It isn't the best outcome, since we didn't actually win the fight, but it was a good, solid showing.

Stuff to note:
  • We basically rolled over the Yellows arrayed against us; they were no challenge at all. I think our strength as an anti-group combatant has been adequately demonstrated.
  • We successfully engaged against a higher-level cultivator, and came out ahead - albeit not to the point of knocking him out. This demonstrates fighting-spirit and the ability to hold our own in 1v1 combat against someone at and even above our cultivation level.

It's better than you'd think. We puffed up Shen Hu by giving him a match to show off how he's quality material--who, as far as we can tell, is another Elder Favorite, and both of us advance. Which means there's one more Elder who'll be willing to be a voice in our favor when it comes to later matchups.

Both sides basically walked away looking great if you will, which is pretty much the ideal outcome from a political standpoint, and it went a long way to cleaning up Renxiang's position by showing that "She doesn't necessarily have a bad eye, her previous one just had 'Bad Luck' "

Eeeeh. Seems like a stretch. Even if later matchups haven't been decided yet, I doubt that whatever Elder is backing Shen Hu is going to take us having fought him to a draw as a sign that they should offer us their personal support.

Just not getting them working against us is good enough. Like they might have if we actually bumped him off.

So the pool of 16 has 3 monsters, 7 other Greens or partial Greens, and 6 Yellows. It's pretty indefensible to make 2 Yellows fight in the r16, so that suggests there will be two matches within the pool-of-7, taking up four of them, and the other matches will be likely blowouts.

The pool of 7, to refresh memories, is:
  • Ling Qi
  • Kang Zihao
  • Ji Rong
  • Chu Song
  • Gu Xiulan
  • Wen Ai
  • Shen Hu
(the other 9 are the 3 monsters, Han Jian, Han Fang, and 4 peak yellow NPCs)

Due to reasons of being a commoner and also narratives, I think it's likely we're in one of these fights. It won't be against Shen Hu since we just showed everyone a good fight with him. I doubt it'll be with Wen Ai as that'd be a brutal beatdown. Probably won't be Gu Xiulan, as making friends fight like that would be fairly insulting given the diplomatic connection we made pre-tourney. Also, the other three are connected to Sun Liling, who wants to show us up. So probably Chu Song, Ji Rong, or Kang Zihao. And I think everyone knows there is way too much risk of us beating Kang, so probably not him. Chu Song's ties to Sun are flimsy at best. My money is on Ji Rong.

[X] ...Seek out Shen Hu, he gave you quite a runaround, it can't hurt to make nice with a peer like him

I am extremely tempted to go with Meizhen, but this is our best chance for this, so...

@yrsillar - is Zou Chen in our year or one of the previous years? Because him saying that we took his Zhou class spot suggests that he was in our year, but the previous description of the guy we held a knife to suggested an older-year student.

I think being an Elder's favorite and not being involved in the wargames makes him pretty likely to get one of the 3 Yellow blowouts not already taken by a monster, so I'd like to chat with him to have a baseline for our interactions in the IS.

This went fairly well. Probably wouldn't have gone better with any other plan, at any rate.

Cards still up sleeve:
-Zhengui has yet to be used at all.
-Thousand Ring Fortress was never seen because we never took a real hit
-We've not used any AE
-We've not used the formation golems at all

Cards revealed:
-FVM's full magnitude
-Sixiang's auto-dispel function
-Our relatively weak Perception
-Our speed and SCS's capabilities
-Our Qi drain/refuel capabilities
-Flying Sword

Uncertain cards:
-Argent arts weren't really used much, but they aren't much of a big deal
-We used some FSS, but I don't think we used the big cards in that
-There will be people expecting that we've been holding back our archery, because we're fairly well known for using FSA. They're going to be disappoint :p

Ji Rong's also the other super talented commoner of the year, so that's also a nice narrative for the fight.
It kinda feels like a second round fight, though. Kang seems like the better fit, from a narrative "difficulty and stakes increasing each round" point of view. Also, I really doubt the sect would want either of us not to move on, considering how naturally talented we both are.

If ling qi wasn't the main character of the quest I would absolutely expect her to get a yellow in the ro16. There are 6 yellows available to basically be fed to the top 6 competitors and let the middle kids fight it out, and ling qi showed herself as the dominant disciple in her bracket pretty solidly.

If this was entirely on merit and mostly not about politics, I'd expect:

1) Wen Ai has to fight a real fight because she's obviously the weakest Green
2) Shen Hu has to fight a real fight because he's been a sketchball and LQ was going to kick his ass in the prelim if it kept going
3) Chu Song has to fight a real fight because her fight against Gu Xiulan was indecisive
4) Gu Xiulan isn't even fully Green, she has to fight too.

LQ proved herself awesome by morally beating up Shen Hu. Ji Rong proved himself awesome taking down Gan. Kang is a first year full Green and thereby has more potential then any of the other four above. Maybe you could argue his prelim was a joke, and Chu Song should get a pass instead.

[X] Seek out Li Suyin, she should be getting out of her own equivalent to the prelims after all

EDIT: Changed vote due to reminder that Suyin will be meeting with her family soon, and it could go badly.

(Or maybe talking to her would make it go more badly, but I doubt the vote's set up that way.)

As the mountain peaks and her mist faded, Ling Qi scowled at the boy who now stood across from her in the arena.

"It's not fair to get mad when you're the one who played dirty first," Shen Hu pointed out lazily.
..this is really cute.

AND ON A TANGENT, BUT TOTALLY NOT FOR NEFARIOUS SHIPPING REASONS:
