Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

[X] ...Seek out Shen Hu, he gave you quite a runaround, it can't hurt to make nice with a peer like him

Only fighter we've faced all year whom in a full on fight didn't start it trying to be an asshole to us. Also ABS

"It is only thanks to me that you will have a chance to strike at that wretched girl at all," Zou Chen replied with a sniff. "The talisman that will blow away the sneak's mist was provided by my house." It had cost him too, his Father had been displeased at the expense of equipping him with such a potent thing. When he had learned that he would be matched against that girl though, he had no choice.
So... apparently other people knew the matchups before the tournament even started.

Maybe he had inside connections to the Inner or Core sect? I just can't imagine that in the minutes we had to prepare for our opponents he would have been able to commission a talisman this strong and have his family pay for it.

Ooh... shenanigans.

CRX either dropped the ball, or her mother (or her mother's lover, who hates CRX) ran interference and forced the fumble.

So, it looks like we ran out of ammo packs before Shen Hu ran out of hp?

Basically.
The packs were unfortunately also the win counters, otherwise the situation would be quite different- we defeated his spirit beast, and he had to be pretty drained of ki at the end.

Had we to fight him, I very much doubt he would have had a chance.

But since he did not have to fight us directly...
It worked well for him.

And @yrsillar Kudos!
Great update!

...poor Yellows.
They really were just insignificant here. Ling Qi is terrifying.

Ok, that was awesome! I really liked the way you showed Ling Qi from the yellows perspective, and the fight with Shen Hu was great! Really cool to see all the tricks he could pull out.

Really nice to see things like FVM7 and Sixiang paying off here too.

Interesting to look at the dice too... If Shen Hu hadn't had his domain weapon we could have hit him decently hard. Also, 22 dice isn't enough to dispel FVM reliably... Definitely something going on there as Ling Qi noted.

Han Jian stood in the third, looking heavily battered as he leaned on Heijin for support.
Huh, no-one else? Did Han Jian steal our plan?

Very fun fight scene. Seems to me that Ling Qi had the advantage for most of the fight and Shen Hu got wise to her strategy+realized he didn't need to beat Ling Qi, just beat everyone else before Ling Qi can beat him?

Also ending the match completely untouched by any enemies despite being massively outnumbered by Sun Liling minions and actively taking the fight to a dude with the cultivation advantage has gotta be impressive.

Good catch. Shenanigans are afoot, but luckily hard work beat out daddy's money. That dude is in trouble now.

I think this is a moral victory. While we didn't beat Shen Hu, we definitely were slowly winning the fight, we took out his Spirit Beast, and the whole time we consistently brought the fight to him. He was the one who had to force the match to end to be safe moving on.

We put on a very impressive show aside from that, and never were in any danger of losing. Despite some people ripping on Traveler's End it proved to be a critical piece of our tech package too, justifying the hard work we put into getting FVM 7 over the past couple months.

I definitely think Shen Hu proved his chops too, and this is probably the time to talk to him if any time is, as the guy clearly enjoyed the fight and respects us now. Meizhen was never expected to do anything but stomp in the prelim, and Mom might have a stroke if we give her that story before we have time to tone it down in the retelling. You could make a case for seeing Li Suyin too, but I think we want to strike with Shen while the iron is hot.

If we want good future relations with Shen Hu then we should talk to him now. Personally I don't think he is really worth sinking time into, nobody that can just accidentally miss the tournament due to cultivating too much is actually worth being friends with.

[X] Seek out Li Suyin, she should be getting out of her own equivalent to the prelims after all

Awesome fight Yrsillar. Awesome. It makes me all tingly and happy.

while Meizhen and a rather ill looking girl shared the second.
Hmm. How interesting. Perhaps luck? Perhaps poison resistance? Intriguing.

Sixiang's laughter chimed softly in her ears as Ling Qi lowered her flute and took a single pill, restoring most of qi she had just spent. "What's so funny?" she asked idly as she began to walk toward the cliff, her melody still playing all around her.

"Oh, I was just thinking, it's such a lovely night for a stroll, you know?" the spirit replied playfully.

Ling Qi glanced up at the silver sliver grinning down from the snowy sky. "I guess it is," she mused, reaching the cliff's edge. "Nothing like a nice moonlit walk," she added absently as her body dissolved into darkness and flowed over the stony edge like dark water, taking the roiling bank of cloying mist with her.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA. I love it.

Zou Chen seems like a pretty typical Young Master dickwaffle. Best to remember the Zou family if we have to deal with them.

Lanhua has an intriguing ability. It's not really out there for a mud golem to be able to become fluid, and we know Shen Hu likes to ride around in her, but it is unexpected. I wonder what she could teach us and Zhengui, in the sense of spreading your perspective over an area as well as your power. Zhengui in particular because of similarity.

[] Head back to town, you'll be busy all evening, so you should tell your Mother how things went.

These two I like the most. On the one hand I want to have more scenes with Qingge because I really like her as a character and Biyu is adorable. On the other hand essentially going "Ah that was a good fight, lets sit down and talk" is a great thing and I really want to do it.

Hrmmmmmm...

You see... he's actually not worth remembering. After all

There was nothing in that gaze, no pity, no recognition, no care at all.

Was he really so small?

His entire worth was as a qi battery, and once he fulfilled that purpose, there really wasn't much of a point in remembering him.

Forgotten Vale Melody 7 paid dividends here, but the most surprising thing for me was Shen Hu's second spirit. Automatic (or highly likely) dispels, a fairly strong debuff that we needed Sixiang to dispel, and battlefield control make for an immensely powerful combination. I'd like to talk with him more, maybe get a friend for the future. It seems unlikely that he'll fall far behind.

I think it was pretty decisive actually. Shen Hu was a stage above us, and we made him run away defeating our fuel sources instead of actually fighting us.
I think he was hunting down the Cai-aligned disciplines that we spared, actually. Basically, he forced the match to end by taking out everyone left, even though he was somewhat losing the running battle until then.
