Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

To be fair, Meizhen may have just started with a higher capped Dex from her non-human heritage. Or she has pills for increasing attribute gain.

Ok, combat specs finally up to date. @yrsillar, speed/initative need to be changed in the front page. I have also now put dispel resist in the defense section rather than test section. Lastly, there seems to be a change in the Horror formation thanks to the points FixerUpper put. Can I assume the change is retroactive (I haven't added Horror yet).

Things of note/amusing:
- FVM opening is now 46 dice without first strike, 51 with. HC is 50 base. Obviously, +1 stage.
- 44 p.def in first turn with GCD (we aren't getting that point in dodge unless there are more omake point I am not seeing coming).
- We can doot someone in the face with 32 dice, +2 bonus cold damage, 4AP and +1 auto (DV12) without any art use. Not particularly useful, but a good way to humiliate a weaker opponent.
- PLR is sadly still underperforming, with Lunatic Whirl being 36 dice to hit someone (38 if it's Dex and not Manip). I guess it's currently only useful against glass canons or non-peers right now. The price to pay when our expression bonus are geared toward music and PLR isn't music. Hopefully we'll get that Dance speciality one day.

Gotta watch out for the Second Year Greens. This would be devastating to our stacking debuff strategy considering theres no check at all for small debuffs, and it straight out reverses the tables.
Thankfully, we don't have many 2dots debuffs. Something to keep in mind for the future though.

Do we know how the tourney will be handled update/mechanics wise? Will the tourney be several updates? Will all the dice rolling be done in one (live) session?

Are there going to be commentators? Please let there be commentators!

Also regarding expression 8. Does that mean that with our flute we can cast arts at lvl 9 effective?

so crawling horrors may be useful at some point as they can get up to 33 dice before multiattacker penalty, and they most likely benefit from us, our blade, zhenqui (possibly x2), the breath and then up to 4 of them each with argent current's buff to multiattacker.

Ehem:
--Diapason of the Lost Traveler
[...]
Counts as a two die effect for the purpose of dispels.
Edit: to clarify, diapason is pretty much a cornerstone debuff to FVM since it's what provides the perception test gating to getting out of the mist or closer than 20m to us. Lost Traveller somewhat mitigates this weakness, but during those turns we're vulnerable to auto-dispels.

Ah, somehow I thought it would be included with MotV which is 3 dot. Yikes. Yeah, Diapason is not doing anything against anyone in the tournament.

EDIT: Well, they also need to be higher cultivation than us +1 stage, so that's not such a given.

18 + 9 (CL 7) + AC 3 (Ling Qi) + SS 7 = 37 dice.

Sadly though, 37 Dice is only useful against non-peers until it gets ridiculously lucky or attack once the death spiral is already done (and then why?).

Horror is of some use as a +4 dice bonus to our own defense as an instant once we have used all our instant, but at that point we are hitting 57-59 dice ourself.

Last I heard, the tournament was going to be a playtest for the narrative style of next year.

Shouldnt it start hitting once TE is active?

The argument boils down to "Someone will instantly dispel it on the mass for cheap, meaning that we'll never be able to use TE, because one of the effects falls into auto-dispel, no roll needed category for anyone third realm"

Which means by that logic, FVM 7 is almost useless for us.

Mind you, I don't think it's that bad, as Diasporon is a nice bonus at this point, so MotV should serve for TE activation.

What Alectai said, though I hadn't thought things through for the tournament proper. Diapason is effectively cultivation level 8, so a tech like Imperturbable Peak need one to be in Green Foundation or to have Speciality II in their dispel to auto-dispel it.

So while it will be an issue later on if Diapason doesn't grow more robust, for tournament we are fine.

Meizhen's dex has been uncapped since she reached early gold. All the ancient families have something like that in their more pure members. Bai have dex, Xuan have stm and Zheng have str

That... is good to know.

Wow, that's a huge advantage, especially since Meizhen was early gold from an early age. Go Ancestor Spirits!

But the actual techniques are MotV 3dot, dissonance 3dot and elegy 3dot.

Diapason got rolled into motv .And isnt its own technique anymore. So, as long as motv, disonance and elegy are up we ought to be able to cast TE.

Once TE is active the diapason portion of motv ought to be able to land. That is how i read it.

Since it's being examined, for convenience:

--Diapason of the Lost Traveler
The mournful sound of the lost traveler is an integral part of the melody, no longer player separately. The user clashes with all enemies within the mist with a bonus of five dice. On hit the targets perception rolls take a three die penalty, and attempts to leave the mist or move toward the user or an included ally result in the target doubling back unless a 6 success perception test is passed. Enemies within twenty meters of the user or an included ally do not need to make this check. Additionally the target suffers a four die penalty to defense while under this effect. Lasts for as long as the target remains within the mist. Counts as a two die effect for the purpose of dispels.

That last sentence implies it can be dispelled separately. I do think it'll be useful even if it stays at 2 dots just because of the CL+1 we have with it, we would need to be two levels down for it to be especially vulnerable.

It's an interesting argument that since it's a subtechnique we could still TE without it though.

Even if you are correct about it not mattering if the Diapson portion is dispelled, wouldn't it also means Traveler's End doesn't protect it, as it's not counted in the techniques it is reinforcing? we can't really use diapason anymore without also using MotV too I think? and if MoTV is already up, well... I mean, I guess narratively we could manage to use Diapason again, but then it becomes MotV(Diapason) + Dissonance => Elegy => Traveler's End => Diapason (not having been reinforced by TE last turn).

@Arkeus the dispel resist info on Defense is accidentally hidden inside a spoiler tab for typical scenarios.

Also, the Blizzard Pin is probably no longer considerable as standard gear for Qi Reduction purposes.

I'm happy with how the Shawl turned out, a 3 die perception penalty is pretty big for us as an add-on to the offensive item.

-[X] Ling Qi receives a four die bonus when attempting to discern lies or see through illusions.

Diapason's more dire peril is that it only possibly applies when first used. Anyone who enters the mist after it has gone up has virtually unhindered mobility and free reign to leave or approach the user at will. It really tramples on the thematic and mechanical utility of the Art that only those in the area of effect when the mist is first raised are actually misled or discombobulated by it.

The perception test aspects should be automatic, not on hit. Only the debuffs should be on hit.

Bonus die are good, but eventually a 4 dice bonus will fall by the wayside.
Rerolls are always good all the way to the top.

Though I'm not sure that internalizing Argent Mirror is the best option (as opposed to waiting for something better), it's fairly evident by now how that part of this vote is going. That said, I think the reroll is definitely better than the 4 dice bonus. As many people have pointed out, 4 dice will be insignificant eventually, while a reroll will always be helpful.
