Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

A re roll is just infinitely better long term than a flat bonus of dice now.

[X] Internalize Argent Mirror
-[X] Ling Qi and Allies of at least four dots positive relation within one hundred meters may reroll a failed perception test once per combat or scene.

[X] Internalize Argent Mirror
-[X] Ling Qi receives a four die bonus when attempting to discern lies or see through illusions.

Edit:
Just because it seems rather worth noting, we're moving entirely towards narrative combat.
The value of a reroll vs bonus dice in the long run is completely irrelevant.
What matters is immediate impact and even more importantly narrative value, in which case lie detection seems way more meaningful to me.

I though we and Ling Qi herself wanted to move away from selfishness and be a better person, at least towards our friends ?
Helping our closest friends see through such issues seem a better fit to the fluff imo.
Choosing to receive a benefit for yourself isn't selfishness though.

Further problems with it, in terms of trying to characterize a modification to our soul as selfish or not, is that the reroll bonus only applies to people 100m away, and only our closest friends. Isn't saying that the only way to benefit from me is to be physically close to me as well as emotionally close kind of selfish? It keeps the people you love close to you for maximum benefit.

But I fundamentally disagree with even trying to characterize either one of the options as making Ling Qi a better person, or a less selfish person. This is fundamentally about Ling Qi, not about others. To say that one option is morally superior to another is to deny the meaning of the Argent Mirror. There is no "better" or "superior" option just like there is no "wrong" or "right." There is simply the choice and the confrontation of why we choose that option. And that reason simply is, not wrong or right.

This, I'll just kinda bump because I agree. I'm not entirely certain they become completely irrelevant, because there might be a subtle difference on a narrative level, but I'm not sure and agree with the general premises.

1)it is when the choice is between "a benefit for just yourself" and "a benefit for yourself, and the same for your friends".
2) i don't see the issue with the range thing. Preferring to have your friends around you is normal, it's if you don't want to have your friend around you that you have a deep issue...
3) if you don't like the moral PoV then use a math PoV, a reroll ability is simply better than +4 extra dice when we already have around 20 dice and it'll only be increasingly so as we get more dice to throw at tests.

I just wanted to say thank you Yrsillar. This has been an amazing story to participate in and read. There has been ups and downs. I have said things I am not proud of. However, even if I couldn't get people to agree with me most of the time I am happy about what Ling Qi has achieved. So thank you Yrsillar for the amazing talent (at least talent 8) that made this possible and thank you to the thread for all the work that has been put into this great quest.

Over the next week will be the greatest trail to date. Just remember that GLORY LASTS FOREVER!

Picking a permanent part of LQ as a person just based on bonuses to a single event coming up seems kinda short sighted.

It depends on the importance of the event. This tournament is basically the culmination of our efforts till now. Every scrap of power must be seized at this point, IMHO. I'd rage if we lost a match because we took the long view here. Not to mention, the other choice is not significantly better, even from a meta perspective. Especially for a stealth assassin/spymistress build like LQ is.

So I don't think it is short-sighted, not necessarily. Of course that's just my opinion.

Travelers End is pretty great. I assume that we need to supply Qi to it still to keep the mists going, but I wonder if we can create several instances of mists by stopping one then making another elsewhere. If we DON'T need to supply Qi then we could litrally create mist traps all over the place which would have to be dispelled, and whilst I'm not sure if it would be able to permenantly hold some levels of Yellow, any mortal or Red who wandered in would be quite screwed. If that's the case then considering how much of a pain we could be as just an early green it makes sense why the Empire doesn't like leaving unaccounted cultivators around, when a single one with the right build could booby trap to hell and back a province. Won't be surprised if it doesn't work like that, but if it did that would be awesome, and would really fit the name of Travelers End.
I suspect that eventually it runs out of steam and winds down; it is just that "eventually" here takes longer than a typical combat encounter. Maybe it lasts an hour, or a day.

Then again, these are merely suspicions. It might last an entire month or forever for that matter.

Well... by that reasoning shouldn't we also discard FVM and SCS since they too were "red arts"?

Or am I not understanding what you mean?
SCS and FVM aren't common and can grow far beyond their roots. Argent Mirror has already reached its zenith.

In my mind, I see it as kinda being cheap and spending your money on a run down house that'll depreciate in value extremely quickly instead of actually buying something well built and long lasting.

I really don't agree with this reasoning. After all there is almost certainly going to be an AM+ which will improve our current art. As our domain grows so too will the ability of the abilities AM gives it.

There no guarantee AM+ exists and I'd rather you get Yrsillar's confirmation before using an argument saying we can upgrade that domain slot.

Ture FVM and SCS are of better quality than most everything else in our art suite, except perhaps TRF, but they both have one more level before reaching their zeniths as well so they have already nearly reached the end of their paths.

Tossing it out because it is "a red art" is misleading to yourself I think, when it would appear that the real issue you have is with it's quality. I also think this is a valid reason for someone who isn't me to put it aside so I don't really have anything else to add to this line of discussion.
