The mum scenes were awesomely done. I hope she does breakthrough but this was great cathartic bonding, regardless. What was especially good, in my opinion, was the capturing of how tenuously they danced around each other. Interesting to see that all three Ling ladies are so independent, with the two oldest awkwardly insisting that the other doesn't have to go so far to acquiese to their wishes. It was just nice to see their relationship depicted as a work in progress, it makes it feel more real.
Sad to see Xiulan's issues playing up too but Bronze ought to help, hopefully she'll get there before the tournament. Sixiang, I wanna offer to bind them. Even ignoring the dice benefit, I like the social opportunities and the idea of us playing music together.

But yeah, FSS is a big damage dealer. Lots of AP, lots of semiperfect, and lots of Qi Draining, especially with that third technique.
And it's all spiritual, which is mostly unique at this level, meaning that our foes have to spec against us or cover that weakness with gear. Both force them to react to us instead of double down on their strengths.
FVM and PLR have just revealed some potent synergy too.

I think that's the kind of thing we now have to pay attention to the political implications of. Not that we couldn't necessarily do so if the situation comes up, but we'd have to at least talk to Meizhen and Cai Renxiang before planning to.

I'll edit in the changes to FVM later, but for now here is FSS.
It looks like adding a new meridian and hitting Green moved the art forward quite a bit. Lets start with the passives.
- Cold effects now pierce twice as much armor, and at a base of 4AP, our cold effects are going to be quite difficult to stop.
- Conversely, we now have a total of FIVE armor against cold, which means that someone trying to hit us with cold effects in particular is going to have a hard time. Unlike AE (which works great against AE), FSS doesn't seem like the best way to attack other FSS users.
- We get a second point of bonus damage on all "Basic unarmed and music attacks". Not sure what counts as "basic". Does this mean that anything with a tech doesn't work? If so, it is going to be kinda useless...
- +1 dice to expression on offensive clashes.
- Enemies take an extra dice of penalty from this effect.
- Qi-less enemies now take damage instead of Qi drain. This isn't too relevant against "tapped out" cultivators since they probably aren't much of a threat without Qi, but it could be helpful against constructs or the like.
Finally, we have a new tech. Winter Eternal Cadenza is a group attack tech that also grants Qi drain, much like AE's Black Earth Voraciousness. To compare the effect to Hoarfrost Caress:
- WEC costs 8 qi to HC's 6.
- HC's attack is DV6 + 1 bonus damage + 2 AP, at +5 dice. WEC's is weaker; merely DV6 + 2 dice.
- WEC requires SEA to be up, unlike HC.
- WEC's attacks hit all enemies within 50m (the same range as SEA). HC is of course a single-target attack.
- On Hit, HC's attack causes an echo effect; the same damage is applied against next turn. On Hit, WEC's a penalty of -5 speed, -5 initiative, and -2 to all clashes.
- Finally, WEC recovers 1 point of Qi per damage dealt to anyone with a cultivation level. Presumably, mortals don't count, though it is unclear whether constructs or the like would.

While xianxia feudalism is different than western, she probably has some level of duty to help us against external foes.
Did you catch the thing about their cultivation only being Early Green? It looks like the way yrsillar addressed the issue of Sixiang being too-high in cultivation is to say that "nope, actually they are at your cultivation level; they were just artificially boosted to that level for security". And it does kinda make sense, since Spirits do have this whole "merging into each other" thing. I wouldn't be surprised if Sixiang's grandmother literally lent them some of her own cultivation for the interim; not like it is a big penalty for a spirit of that level.Yuss! Pretty sure only 1 bonus damage works with it. The 2 from passives still seems to only be with basic unarmed and music attacks, not techs. Correct, @yrsillar?

I don't trust Fu Xiang's info when it comes to enemy production students, and while Yan Renshu is going to bear a grudge, so do we with Kang Zihao and we could bear a grudge against Huang Da. I don't want to get in the habit of House of Ling beginning Feuds too quickly.

Haha. Biyu is cute. I guess all the Lings are gung ho and independent in their youth, and Ling Qi's spirit lives on in attempting to catch amphibians.

I do hope she'll attempt a bronze breakthrough in the next few weeks though while working on her arts. Good for her though. Gu Xiulan has an outside chance of getting in now too since she hits hard for her level.

So Zhengui hit late 2nd Realm, Meizhen's probably hit Domain 1 at the very least, and Cui might be about to hit Appraisal.

Also, I guess it is true that the truly talented already made it last year (or had very bad luck). That makes what? 4, at most, green from the Older Disciples but the first years are coming in with 9 confirmed 3rd Realms already.

Hrm. So the choice of whether to take a bit of a short term hit with the qi loss from binding for a long term gain in a spirit who apparently has max socialize and politics and so on apparently.
Sixiang and Ling Qi have pretty fun banter together. I enjoyed reading about the party.

Our basic flute attack from FVM is gradually accumulating bonuses as we roll along. It could be decent if we want to keep FVM going while we pick off lower level cultivators without investing any extra qi.
To me the biggest appeal of Sixiang is that we would have boosts to core stuff that we use instead of boosts to random elements.
We also might have more synergy with Sixiang on the battlefield than the average cultivator, although I don't think we've seen explicit duet music arts.

Sixiang would be good to bind even without the combat focus. Ling Qi could really use a social specced spirit to help her navigate court.

Oh, absolutely. You don't have to sell me on Sixiang. Even aside from the things you mentioned, if nothing else I think her help outside of combat could be invaluable.
FSS now has WEC, which is a "pick off lower level cultivators and gain Qi" tech.
