[X] It's moving away from the path the Expedition will take, that makes it no longer your problem. Get back on course and head for the port.

Like I said, stay on task. This was not a useful way to spend out time.

For those who said this was useless,
You're also bothered by a thought: if the beast is heading to Thunder Mountain instead of merely using it as a landmark to navigate by, then either the volcano is no longer under control of the Night Goblins, they've made some accord with the beasts, or Night Goblins and Dragon Ogres are locked in war with each other. Either way, this would be important information for the Expedition.
Really it's in the post

I find it somewhat odd that people were willing to follow it, but when it turns out that further following it not longer might, but now will lead to information that the expedition would want to know about, then we no longer care? That sounds a bit odd.

[X] Continue following it. It would be good to know where this creature calls home, and whether there are more of it.

Missed the paragraph u guys mentioned for some reason so my point is abit useless on that part altough my point of this being abit useless distraction stands.

Still think no point on following since there is a deadline to get back and we could go check thunder mountain we get back if the council wants and is worried about the news ? Since the port will be a supply line and thunder mountain might be a concern to that .

[ ] Volunteer to ride ahead and scout this long-lost port.
[ ] Volunteer to perform a sweep further out so you can spot any substantial forces that might be marching in your direction.
I just want to point out that we had two choices what to do and we chose the first.

Our job is not general scouting for threats, but specifically scouting the port. We have spent enough time on the Dragon Ogre, we should move on to do the job we signed up for.

We now know (roughly) the direction the Dragon Ogre will go now.
Plus at the time of my vote QM, hasn't posted additional information yet so I might change my vote but I'm waiting for further discussion first before changing it.

@BoneyM
So, what caused the use of TT mechanics for that bit of conflict when not used earlier? Unless they were used in earlier conflicts and I just didn't read them.

And guys, please quit bitching about how useless this was, it wasn't. At all.

Checking out thunder mountain is not useless as well: it's just we can do it on the way back if we have time, unlike following Dragon Ogre which was a one time offer.

Huh. Those stats are far lower than I thought a Dragon Ogre would have.

It seems like we all have to roll and opposed roll to avoid notice every update we follow this guy, leaving our safety completely in the hands of chance.

We've avoided a brutal death twice now.

My problem with doubling back is that it actually easily tells us nothing. Suppose we double back later and the Goblins are still there, but no sign of Dragon Ogres.

Is it:
A) The Ogres are allied and they are inside the mountain?
B) This single ogre is being a mercenary for them?
C) The Ogres are allied, but have a nest/lair nearby
D) The Ogres are not allied but have a nest/lair nearby
E) There are no more Ogres, and this on goes past Thunder Mountain.
Etc.

Basically, coming back to check it out would work, if the alliance is obvious, if the lair/nest is obvious, or if the mountain was taken over.

Now granted, these things do not seem subtle. They probably leave distinctive tracks to follow, so the dwarves might be able to clear a lot of those scenarios. But. It's a short trip for us, after following him for multiple hours. Not so short a trip for Dwarven Scouts. And one they would have to make in pretty hostile territory. Because I doubt they would let us carry one of them as baggage.

The only advantage is that Thunder Mountain is at the wellspring of the river, purely east from our purported port, while Karak Eight Peaks is in the south from the port. That said, Thunder Mountain is somewhat closer then K8P, to the port location.

I guess we could always check it out after the port is established. If it does not turn into a problem for establishing the port, ofc.

I'm not so sure when this Dragon Ogre is the basest of base in ability. It's lower than that even, no (artificial) Armor.

If this was a basest of base Shaggoth, yeah, but it isn't.

Mmm, those are exactly what a base Dragon Ogre from TT would have...except it doesn't even have light armor. It's a little underwhelming I know.

That's too much drama. We're highly skilled wizard: dragon ogres are nothing to sneeze at but we're good at what we do and no less powerful.
The stat lines disagree with you. Battle Wizards aren't a match to Dragon Ogres in combat. Mat isn't a Battle Wizards. Neither are knights, or Greatswords.

A Greatsword Champion would likely lose a 1v1 with a Dragon Ogre. The items and spells might, might, compensate. We'll kill him by bleeding on him and sending back double his blows back.

Seriously, most human models are wound 1, attack 1. That thing is wound 4, attack 3. We are proficient with great swords, so probably Weapon Skill 3 with them. I would guess that if we had completed our advanced Great swords Training, we would have WS 4. Either that, or we are already WS 3(default for Greatswords, but they are the best of the best), and advanced would have given us a second attack, like a Champion.

The gun helps, somewhat, but it would still probably be a dangerous fight.

Keep in mind, a full Battle Wizard still only has 2 Wounds.

You know what? @BoneyM I do not at all envy you the job of coming up with a stat line for Mathilde.
