We need to do something about Ling Qingge. Getting her to cultivate even just a little would be ideal as it would encourage Biyu to take cultivation more seriously than she would otherwise, considering her age. Failing that, getting her into charity work and funding her efforts would do wonders for her self esteem.

How do flying swords work defensively? If our opponent is defending themselves with their flying sword do we clash against their flying sword dice pool, their defense dice pool, both?

Do flying swords only take damage when someone targets them, or do they take damage when they get blocked by something, including other flying swords? Do flying swords take damage if they block an attack meant for us?

Does the defending, or both, flying swords take damage when they conflict, and what determines it? Does the attacking sword (or the sword that rolls more successes) take damage from the other weapon's bonus damage, even if it wouldn't otherwise take damage because the other sword isn't attacking (or rolled fewer successes which would normally mean dealing no damage)?

I would honestly rather stick with Ling Qi's take on Su ling's dad, namely who cares if something underhanded happened to him? Ling Qi never knew him so whether he ran off or was brutally murdered it really doesn't matter.

I dislike this. It would be out of character for Ling Qi to initiate violence in this manner just because the players in this thread want to grind combat experience. It also seems at odds with our attempts to befriend Sixiang, who is after all also a reveler. Just take the hunting missions if all you want is a fight.

That's important because, who the hell does that?. Outside of the city is a death zone.

The only things wandering out there alone are cultivators and spirits.

So we are left with three options. Either he's a dumbass who ran off and died, someone murdered him and covered it up, or he wasn't what he appeared to be.

That last one is a possibility that interest me.


Still, it's a trail fifteen years cold. an investigation there is going nowhere unless answers fall into our lap.

Ling Qi picked a fight with the dragon already.

Or, more precisely, she approached from a position of strength and told him how things were going to be. When he said "You and what army?" she fought him.

Replace "dragon" with "spirits" and you have the current game plan. Ling Qi is the boss now, and if the spirits don't like it they can lump it. And they won't like it, so we have our fight, rather than trying to propitiate them and saying "pretty please."

EDIT: Also, picking fights for the purpose of improving your cultivation is downright encouraged around here.

Considering the circumstances, and her likely desperation, I'm willing to bet she looked into it.

She got found and disowned the next day. She had nothing but what she had on her and no prospects but prostitution.

Under those circumstances, I find it difficult to believe she didn't at least ask around.


Kinda curious how they manage caravans now. I figure they probably have scheduled caravan trains you buy into. Still, not like we'd have any way of knowing.


Anyway, thoughts for later.

I don't want to vengeance boner, but imagining all the things that could have been, on the road, a traveling actor and musician playing for their supper, Ling Qi being the oldest of a huge and happy family, the caravan honored to have one of theirs become a cultivator, sending her off with frantic and well-meaning activity and advice...

I can buy that Ling Qingge asked around, and in fact it would make sense that her belief is entirely founded on what she found in such investigations. My point is that we have no guarantee that the conclusions she came to are correct.

For example. Lets say that Ling Qingge slipped some coin to the guards at the gate and asked if they had seen a man matching the description of her lover. And lets say that one or two guards said that yeah, they remember this guy leaving alone before dawn. One possible conclusion is that everything is as it seems. But maybe the Guards were paid off by one of the other actors in this story to say a given thing. Maybe Dad actually left and then snuck back in. Maybe he someone outside later that day. Point is, the information on him may be wrong or incomplete,
 
No need to be overeager in trying to turn Biyu into a cultivator. If you're impatient, just try to spend some time telling her stories and tutoring her in mundane skills. Ling Qi may have started with zero knowledge about nobility, law, bureaucracy and have terrible calligraphy. No reason why Biyu shouldn't start from a higher base.

Okay, so poking at the puzzle
-Fact: The areas between cities are deathworlds.
--Extrapolation: Publicly accessible caravans leaving cities are on relatively well known schedules. Ling Qingge has reasonable basis to know whether he skipped town on a caravan or not.
--Extrapolation: Ling Qi's father was not a cultivator given Qingge's expressed lack of familiarity with cultivators above Red, and her association of said Red cultivators with violence.

-Fact: Her family caught up to her a day after Ling Qi's father went missing.
--Possibility 1: The disappearance was unrelated to catching up. He just got cold feet.
--Possibility 2: Ling Qi's father's disappearance was because he informed on Qingge to her family and then ducked out.
--Possibility 3: Ling Qi's father's disappearance was because the family found and eliminated him
--Issue: Ling Qingge was pregnant at the time with his child. Due to the nature of the conflict with Liu, meeting the family would lead to him being handed over to the Liu family as a scapegoat for a suitably ironic punishment, or quietly disposing of him. This makes probability 1(if he had foresight) or probability 3(if he had no luck) more likely than 2, which would require ignorance.

We're missing a few elements, but I think we have a reasonable cause for foul play based on what we do know.

Side thought: Being stripped of her name, she could have taken the name Ling(Zero) to denote what she was left with?
