[X] Forces have been sent ahead once more to bridge a second inconvenient tributary; join them and aid in standing guard against any that may try to stop you.
[X] If any resistance does start to gather, they will be smashed apart by the very heavy cavalry of the Knightly Orders. Stand ready with them.

People are voting to volunteer to range way out on our own, which is fucking dangerous and has the potential to go horribly wrong based entirely on the whims of the dice. This is war, and barring crit rolls we are not a Hero Unit; Sylvania taught us that. I mean, if we fumble we'll somehow alert the orcs ourselves and lead them back to the main force like a rube, or something equally disastrous.

[X] Introduce him to the dwarven smiths so he can try to convince them to teach him.
[X] Ask the smiths to teach him as a favour to you (-2 favours)
[X] Help him find a place with the dwarf artillery crews so that he can supplement their abilities in combat.

We've been neglecting Max the most out of the Journeymanlings, and while I'd like him to work on Matty's sword, I'd want him to start his lessons with the dwarfs first. I feel like using Dwarf Favor would be an auto-success, but most seem to want to help Max w/o Favor usage, so I'm approval voting in the hopes that one option or another wins.

I'd like to help Esbern and Seija finish working on Dispel before we have them start poking the eggs too. Journeymen teaching each other may be dangerous, and another week probably isn't going to make the eggs any less viable than they otherwise might be.

Also want to get some socialization in this round; all work and no play and all that.

I want to see the halfling! And other than that I want to put our super riding skills to use and prevent unfortunate magical accidents.

We've now been on the march for more than a month and haven't ever spoken to most of the council. Now, some of that comes down to the turn structure- presumably there are council meetings and we just never see any of them on screen, and presumably Mathilde has opinions of these people and they have opinions of her which we just don't get to know because BoneyM isn't writing about them. But that's not really a sufficient excuse for at least meeting our coworkers.

Notice, in fact, that the coworkers we have met don't appear on the list; there is no Ulthar or King Belegar social action. This isn't just a list of people that we could talk to; it's a checklist of people that we haven't talked to and really should.

There are several actions other than meeting people which are important to happen before battle- most notably envenomed bolts and Johann with the artillery (although I'd kind of surprised that he hasn't taken care of that himself)- but neither of those are critical to happen right now. The only thing we really need to be doing right now is making sure that none of the journeymen explode, and we asked them to use a bunch of magic that might blow themselves up, so.

A point we should perhaps consider for the future "turns".

Mathilde's possible actions can be loosely divided into 3 "roles".

1. Mathilde as a hero-unit.
2. Mathilde as a wizard coordinator.
3. Mathilde as a war-council member.

Why do I separate points 2 and 3? For all that Mathilde serves as a "wizard-commander", her function in truth seems to be as much as that of a dwarf-wizard liason, as she is a proper superior officer with an official command over her joyrneymanlings.

Mathilde came to the dwarven expedition for her own reasons, and not only as an imperial representative, and is in any case independent gal with many diverse talents, with much to offer.
Limiting her contribution to the war council to that just of a wizard-wrangler is doing her a disservice.

Why do I bring this up?

I think it is important (and even better, it would be interesting), to leave an option for the future turns to learn more about the council/aid the expedition as a whole.

We shouldn't use any pretext available to go gallivating off as a hero unit, or at least to limit such our actions to one action a turn as well, when possible.

Yes, I am well aware that the above makes me a hypocrite, but it still needs to be said.

So I'm voting to spend all our actions with the amber wizards this turn, which seems weird but there's a reason for that.
1. Overseeing the dispel training is very important because we don't want them to accidently miscast without us present.
2. Test their skills in battle so we actually have an idea of what they can really do, so we know how best to actually use them by the time we get into a fight. We volunteered to lead the wizard cadre, so we need to take this downtime to ensure we can lead as effectively as possible,
3. We bought the eggs, but we have no idea if and when they might hatch, or if they need special conditions to survive. We do not want our hypothetical monstrous cavalry dying in the egg due to neglect, or worse hatching outside of our supervision. This is an action where time is important.

Might as well hatch those when we have plenty of dead greenskins to feed them with.

Since this isn't a Bioware RPG, hammering the dialogue tree until something happens is more likely to alienate people than lead to harmony.

But couldn't we apply our spymaster skills to find out more from the other side? Talk to Johann in a way that he doesn't know what we're fishing for and so on. And maybe convince him to make up for whatever he did.

By the way, how much do we actually command the journeymen in the military hierarchy? We don't get any updates on their actions, we don't get to tell them much as to what to do either. How would their relationship with us have looked if we had chosen some different path of command, like the Stirlanders or just ourselves?

Lastly, will we get the "Get to know them wether they like it or not" option back any time soon? Or does Mathilde consider that too crazy a risk among a Dwarven army, even if she were to stick only to human marks? You'd expect a Grey Wizard whose journeyman phase was mostly spent as a spymaster to be more nosey.

That's a good point that Darklight raises.

I am personally very interested not only in Mathilde's development as a character, but also in raising her impact on a strategic scale, and just making her an another magical murder-blender just isn't satisfying for me.

Her being an asset on strategic level as a researcher, as a branch headmistress, as an advisor, an intrigue master or even a dwarf-diplomat, is much more to my taste.

I agree with all you've said except for one thing. I find a sword-swinging, gun-toting, magical murderblender Mathilde very satisfying also.
