The first thing that comes to mind for me is that she thought we were a cute distraction, like a Fey seeing a cute guy they want to oogle. The second is that she is far far too free spirited to be bound willingly in any sensibly useful time frame.
I can accept the second bit as possible, if not an interpretation that I believe, but I don't buy into the first one at all. The thing to keep in mind is that she didn't form her own body to follow us around, she was given one because we paid more attention to her than anyone else. Ling Qi being a cute distraction had nothing to do with her being on the outer sect mansion right now.

Arguably, we are picking up new talismans right now. Talismans and consumables could be chosen depending on what we see of them.

What benefit do we even get from watching a fight? Its not like we could change Ling Qi's battle plans. New music on the other hand might be a major game changer depending on what we get.
Also lets not forge that the Muse spirit is the result of a long chain of successes on the high end requirements.

It's far better to build on Ling Qi strengthes rather then specialising in one opponent weaknesses.

Well, it could help us/Ling Qi determine the best strategy to take going up against him.
A dude that Ling Qi isn't even guaranteed to fight? A reminder that Ling Qi needs to go through several gauntlets of yellows before reaching the one-on-one fights, and the knowledge that the sect will fix fights so that the most impressive cultivator won't meet each other super early so that they can show their chops at the 1v1 part.
Like, all Ling Qi needs to do is win the first 1v1 fight to get in the inner sect and she might as well be matched against Kang or Ji Rong or Chu Song.

She might, but she might not. Shen Hu is one of the 9 likely green in the tournament (Sun Liling, CRX, Meizhen, Kang Zihao, Gan Guangli, Chu Song, Ji Rong, Shen hu, Ling Qi) and the odds of Ling Qi fighting Shen Hu in the tournaments are pretty high (we aren't likely to be pitted against CRX or Gan Guangli,).
Having a good idea of someone else's fighting style gives us a good advantage in a fight as the first few turns are crucial. For example, We now know we want to have TRD and Maybe HRA up as fast as possible against Sun Liling, as damage mitigation ad PD is disproportionally good against whirlwind-type enemies.

Yes, although the sentence is a little confusing. So the statement that the mother disagrees with is the statement about sabers. That there can be no depth or beauty in the saber. So Cai's mother thinks that there is depth and beauty in the saber. The double negative could be removed and the sentence changed to add clarity but it does work.

For Sixiang>Fight my thoughts are that even if we see shambler guy fight it isn't going to help us much. I can't see us changing our cultivation to counter his no matter what we see, so strategising for the first few turns of a fight are pretty much the only benefit.
Sixiang on the other hand even if binder her is a long shot I imagine we'll get something, whether a training bonus, new technique or talisman.
Basically, although information is important we may not even end up fighting him, not to mention he would only be one of many opponents. It's a possible universal combat boost vs information on only a single one of our dozen or so opponents.
We'll probably end up with another chance to see him fight or learn about him anyway, either by another spectator to this fight or at the actual tournament. Tbh I was more swayed by the mud wrestling part of the minor than the infowar part.
In other news, if the earliest Biyu can start cultivating/be awakened safely is at 8 years old, we will be 20 by then. By that point we may be closing on if not having just reached Cyan. That's gonna be so good for her, shame it's so far in the future I'm not sure I can wait D:
