[X] The vacuum must be filled. Step forward and takecommand. Fulfil Van Hal's final legacy in the manner that it begun.
[X] The Third Vampire War ended with the Grand Theogonist himself reading a Spell of Unmaking from a mere copy of the Liber Mortis. There can be no stronger precedent.

maybe you can purge the land of dhar permanently

"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS."
"So, um, hey! Hiiiii. Buddy. Now, you may be wondering.... why you're alive! In a manner of speaking. Um. Now in fairness, you weren't terribly clear with your final bequest, and you know wizards. Curious as cats! ... Tee hee?"
"... DAME MATHILDE WEBER, DON'T YOU WINK AT ME."

Black Guards of Morr aren't going to take rezing Abe very well.

What's the usual process of dealing with a dead noble? Burn and seal the ash in a tomb, just seal the body in a tomb, or priest up the body and put in a tomb?

Really rather not have Mathilde deal with raised Van, the shock is not good for her psyche.

Yeah the Grand Theogonist got away with reading it because he was the Grand Theogonist. If Mathilde read it she'd be signing her own warrant of execution.

You're not even at the castle yet. And no, Burning Shadows explicitly does not work that way.
Has to be the caster's own shadow, so the biggest we could get is probably on a hilltop at dawn/dusk anyway. Not nearly enough to fry a castle.

...we do have a means to slam some Purple Suns clean through the walls though...
Well, the Warhammer Wiki only mentions Wrydglass in connection to Jovi Sunscryer, and it was Jovi Sunscryer who apparently invented the Templehof Luminark from the ground up.

So, if he is dead, then no Templehof Luminark?
Ah, lenses that can interact with magic as if it were light. Focusing and all.

Someone else in Light would figure it out eventually

It occurs to me that Van Hal will never ask for the key to his office back.

Do we have the right and responsibility to go through his stuff, now? It's not really snooping anymore, since someone has to look through it...

For those who don't know the source material.

The Liber Mortis is the best source on Necromancy available to the scholars of the Old World. It was written by the Necromancer Frederick van Hel, better known to later generations as Vanhel. The one complete surviving copy of the book is kept under lock and key in the vaults of the Great Cathedral of Sigmar in Altdorf and can only be studied by the purest-hearted scholars, and even then only after special dispensation from the Grand Theogonist himself. Vanhel was a Necromancer at the time of the Great Plague and compiled his masterpiece from translations of the Books of Nagash. It is this book and its copies that have caused so much horror and death in the lands of the Old World.[1a]

A COPY has all that protection on it and we're holding the genuine article right now. Something written by copying portions of THE BOOKS OF NAGASH.

So yeah you REALLY, REALLY, don't want to read this book. ESPECIALLY when your emotional compromised.
So you could argue the current protections on it are inadequate...

Yeah. So if later we wanted to had it off to someone else (for any number of good reasons), the Grand Theogonist would make sense, as they've already got another copy.

Well yes obviously, we'd have to Thelma and Louise it out of camp, plotting how to fight Dhar with Dhar so we can erase every vampire in Sylvania before our disintegrating brain fully gives into madness.

Doesn't mean that isn't the MOST FUN POSSIBLE VOTE.

The Knights of Morr did their rites, I think we're fine on that front.

Hitting them with a Morr spell to send their soul to his hall, if I remember it right. Although with the way all the gods are failing so miserably here, they'd probably mess that up too.
If Mathilde read it she'd be signing her own warrant of execution.
*Used it. Nobody could tell if we'd read it, unless they were literally watching us do so.

What stops us from sticking a magic light under our hat and going to town?

Gave Light a bad name?

I gave a very pained laugh after reading this.

Who has the Rune Sword btw? Because Tiny Gandalf shoving it down this Carstein whores throat is very appealing right now.

I love you for the "Tiny Gandalf" part, but let's not shove a sword down someone else's throat(Phrasing!), mmmkay?

Probably give it to whichever kid of his inherits.

Shit update but that was due to the bad dice rolls. Ah well, it is what it is. Goow work, @BoneyM.

Full funerary rites and entombing in the family crypts or Gardens of Morr. IIRC.

Cremation or mutilation is technically desecration to Morrites.

I believe we should loot the study clean and make sure its safe for the new boss.

I imagine this is something Van Hal agonizes over, because we know his scholarship favors preserving and propagating knowledge, his bloodline having a famous necromancer in it having written that is his family's shame, and finally, that this knowledge is right on the edge of too dangerous to trust anyone with, yet too valuable to be destroyed.
Taking into consideration how intrinsically linked the Liber Mortis is to necromancy for pretty much everyone who knows the former exists there is an argument that the action of destroying the tome is dangerous.

In part due to the possibility that part that mad genius who made might've done something so that physical destruction would simply turn a copy into the Liber Mortis, but mostly the fact that the Warp is fickle so how the physical destruction of such a timeless magical tome reflects in it is a massive unknown, and the theoretical range goes from nothing happens to the birth of a minor warp deity involving necromancy. Somewhere in the middle is it simply reforming in the Warp waiting for someone, or something to notice it while traveling through the Warp.

Yeah, sucks, but hopefully we can get closure out of this.

Ideally, we can use this as an excuse to buy off Sleeper Agent. But keep our post and be best auntie to our PC's crush's kids.

Pssh. Mathildes already had that idea anyway, from reading Light and it's Properties.

And no, it can be any shadow, per Realm of Sorcery anyway. The range is (nominally) 18 yards, barring double Crit rolls obviously.

I was thinking of climbing the city walls and melting anything in the streets at sunset. (Sunrise, now)

So who's in favor of giving up our spot as spymistress to Wizard/study the Liber Mortis full-time? If we can reverse-engineer Bound Spells into an Ulgu-safe variant, who knows what else we might find in there to revolutionize the Empire?

I don't think it was so much the dice rolls being bad as much as the fact that we needed two good rolls in a row. A find a healer roll followed by an actual healing roll, with either of them being bad causing failure.
