Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

It seems to me that remaining silent means closing off the Cai option, if only because Fu Xiang will always be able to hold this over Ling Qi and Fu Xiang has no interest in serving Cai long term.

To be far, the biggest issue we have here is blackmail.

Fu Xiang doesn't want to offend Cai Renxiang, but he's in a good position to destroy us if someone can make a sufficiently good offer. And given how many of our rivals have very deep pockets...

Which isn't to say that he'd do this cheaply--especially once he's committed in earnest--he'd get some blowback too, but ultimately, he's made it clear to us that he's in this for his own gain above all else. Someone makes him an offer that guarantees him a cushy spot in an Imperial position? If he's got a way of stabbing first, or blackmailing us, he'll probably do it.

Mind you, this would require someone to know that he and Ling Qi conspired in the first place to do this, or someone to bring a very big prize to him to opportunistically sabotage Renxiang's business from the inside. But it's a legitimate risk--if a long shot.

And we do know for a fact that many of our rivals have very deep pockets.

This is outer sect stuff. It doesn't last. Not really. Fu Xiang might be able to hold it over us for a few months, maybe half a year. Any longer and it just doesn't matter anymore.

It may not matter to other people but I have a hard time imagining that it would not matter to Cai if it comes out in a few months after Ling Qi has already accepted vassal status. I'm torn between admitting guilt or not myself but if Ling Qi does remain silent, I am never going to vote for accepting Cai's offer. That's just asking for even more trouble down the road.

[X] Admit to the deception. Apologize, explain, and accept the consequences.

I know this could fuck us (potential loss of White Room, less likely a potential time-out) but I think it's ultimately still the best decision.

Trust like that Cai just extended to us should be repaid with trust, and how she responds will help us decide whether or not we want to end up with her. There's never going to be a better time to come clean. In some ways, Cai is still quite naive, and this is a chance to show her that. Additionally, if we do end up with Cai (and it seems likely that we will), we don't want this hanging over our heads the whole time. That's not even getting into how crappy Ling Qi feels about having done the sabotage, and I think her coming clean will help absolve her guilt and grow from the experience.

Also, keep in mind that just because a middle option exists, does not make it necessarily the option that combines the best of both other options. We could end up with the worst of both worlds, where we still feel like shit and have this secret hanging over us, and also piss off Fu Xiang by changing the plan.

Frankly speaking, Cai pretty much blindsided us with all that heavy personal stuff. It's as if the girl has never had a friend she tried to trust before. :V

If it were something lighter ,more suited to being a first step in a friendship, we wouldn't even have to think much about the choice here. As such, I don't see why Ling Qi should be bound by choices another character has made.

Inserted tally

It's a lot closer this time around.

I really didn't realize what a big deal the Fu Xiang job would be for Cai. Thievery is an aspect of Ling Qi, what with her hoping to become a personal disciple of Jiao, having the Grinning Moon as a patron and all. I have little doubt that the thread will continue to vote in favor of doing theft jobs if they are lucrative enough even though they may be against the rules. This make me seriously doubt that the Cai route would be good fit for Ling Qi.

There's a hell of a lot of legitimate targets. The problem here was that the targets were just ordinary folks who had done no wrong to anyone involved, getting fucked because Fu Xiang wasn't confident in his own abilities.

Just (wo)man up guys.

It is only fair to repay trust with truth.

Did the vote reset with the division? Just in case, I'm going to go ahead and get my vote in against dousing ourselves in gasoline and lighting it on fire.

Beyond the confession, I'm surprised anybody can read Renxiang's outburst and think that signing up with her is a good idea. She's obviously broken and headed for a self-destructive end. Since Ling Qi isn't equipped with the magic problem solving penis that comes standard in your more wish-fulfillment-ish xianxia stories her best move is to get herself as far away from the potential fallout as she can.

Do we really need to gradually morph all MCs into friendship paladins on this site? I can grudgingly accept no assassinations for our assassin-specced character but I just can't believe that we're about to revoke advantageous omission of the facts in the wake of a sob story. Do you all think we wouldn't come across those in the secret service employ of Cai while she and her mom seek to "purge the rot"?

Also, how is this not a massive betrayal of Fu Xiang's trust? We did the mission as a favor to him for saving our skin when Princess was about to pound us into a fine pulp. How in the world do we get off as being a character who respects the trust of others by betraying him to Cai and getting him no doubt heavily punished by her, the sect or both over a matter that we volunteered to do?

If we drop the framing part of the plan, what happens then? Ling Qi and Fu Xiang go back to Cai and report, "Nope, we have no idea who did this. It's a total mystery"? So weird, especially since Ling Qi already said that they have some leads and Fu Xiang just needs to verify the evidence.
