...Or maybe like us, they only played a small part, and the crit was learning about another element without sparking a war, AND getting a very capable infiltrator. 🤷‍♂️
By sheer dint of being the best at disguise, they are one of the biggest suspects, but well, from an outside perspective, so would we by the same, or similar reasons. Except the fact we created the chaos that facilitated the assassination and we aren't currently aware of how exactly they were involved besides the poison being linked to Canturbary.
I will follow questing logic on this.

...How many times does it have to be said we have no confirmation at all of who did it, besides the type of poison used?
Really, this shows why it is not really good to be known as expert spies, it is so easy to potentially get blamed for things that you didn't do...
Maretonia negaverse almost certainly at minimum have suspicions of our involvement.

Pretty sure that in any Maretonia Negaquest, we´d have eclipsed Canterbury as prime suspect for Mareias assassination by now.

Or maybe said noble died in the chaos, with the leads either being lost in the chaos, or potentially changelings whom noticed what was going on and covered it up to prevent a war between the two nations. In fact, it could have been legitimately done by Canterbury with the changelings panickily covering it up to avoid disaster. 🤷‍♂️

Exactly - we simply don´t know who it was past some strong indications of some kind of Canterburian involvement aside from the fact that it wasn´t us (as in "the Royal Family and RAvenburg" - not ruling out some overeager Griffin just yet) who ordered that hit.

The thing is, though we may not know FOR SURE who did the hit, what WE do know makes us suspect Canterbury to be the main suspect. Like how with only knowing what Maretonia does WE would be the main suspect.

eh, overeager Griffin is VERY unlikely, simply because very few of them would likely have access to that poisonous plant AND access to Mareia herself.

It was, with near certainty, either Changelings, Canterburian ponies (WITHOUT changeling involvements), or some Maretonian noble that underestimated the consequences of that act.

Of those three, Changelings are by far the most likely... but, again, we can't be certain.

Everyone else would add US (and remove Changelings, as they're unknown) as a possible culprit, but we know WE didn't do it...

The first point could be easily counteracted with "The Lady has given me a VISION!" and because they are Canterburrians they will believe it.
That might work but also means that it can't exactly be done in advance or subtly
The second point... they are already organized for striking the anti-magic areas, why would it be so horribly difficult to redirect the host when they are already together?
Because it's not one giant army directly under the Queens command, she declared a holy war against the monsters which caused the various nobles to raise their individual armies to fight the monsters in their territories

Changing that would require her to contact all of those nobles, give them all specific orders and then have them all obey those orders to abandon the battle they're in the middle of fighting and leave their homes unprotected to go off and fight in this other battle
If this was real life you would have a point, but this is a quest where we crit-rolled the relevant action.
At the very least we should've gained a note on how the spying should continue to find the culprit, if it was supposed to be left ambiguous by the GM. Instead the trail stopped with the changeling.

You can make correlations from that.
It's very likely that the Changelings are responsible for Mareia's death but that doesn't mean they will get involved in the war

Not only for all the reasons I listed earlier but also because it just makes perfect sense for them to not want a nation of slavers as neighbours

I wouldn't rule out a Maretonian noble ordering the hit. The Queen wasn't exactly popular after the mass liberation of slaves was seemingly just ignored by her. If it was a dissatisfied noble, one could easily come to the conclusion they used a poisonous plant from Canterbury so it couldn't be easily traced back to them, or use it as a means to do a false flag operation and go to war with Canterbury once they were in charge. Of course, with that theory that would narrow the culprits to Haygle or Pegicles which I have no evidence to support that either of them did it other than they are both trying to be the new king.

It could always have been a minor noble, at least in theory. Possibly a follower of Pegicles that acted without his knowledge, for example.

Let's remember that apparently planning Mareia's assassination was basically a hobby for the nobles

A bunch of nobles got drunk one night and thought it would be hilarious to actually assassinate the queen. Next morning they wake up with hang overs, Tom's horn is missing, Dave has a book glued to his hooves, and the country is tearing itself apart in a civil war.

Got a lot of free time right now, am bored, and want a distraction from this heat by FINALLY writing something for this quest. Problem is I have no ideas for what to write. Anyone got any ideas they can think of?

gimme equestria quest negaverse please. :V
Funny idea, but nah. I like those but I'm not ever going to write one for two reasons:

A) No one ever writes Nega Pyrros and I've been waiting for it for 6 years ever since I saw the concept in PoC. Not gonna write until I get that Nega Pyrros :p

B) I'm kinda afraid of accidentally offending people by flanderizing them when I am trying to be funny. Worried about coming off as meanspirited.
Or a scene of what Discord thinks of us, or just ranting while stoned.
I'm afraid I don't really have a grasp of Discord as a character. He didn't really appear much in the episodes I watched when I was seeing whether I'd like MLP FiM or not, nor does he appear beyond two quotes in EaW. Sorry.

That said, I am running with the "reaction" prompt. It's not gonna be the same since I don't like to constrain myself, but it gave me the inspiration I needed so thanks for that!

He'd probably find the irony of the catbirds, which could of been the pinnacle of capriciousness with a combo like that, out-stealthing the changelings and out-tolerating the ponies. All while being a militaristic empire and hegemony.

As for being stoned, I am now picturing it in terms of petrification instead of only being high. If he is hindered and only partially frees himself, being half-stoned in both meanings is the same as being fully stoned.

Omake: March of the Empire
So I think I found a great song to adapt as a griffon marching/battle song

I think it fits our overall mentality

Edit: lyrics after mod (Not much to change really)

Axes flash, broadsword swing,
Shining armor's piercing ring
Ponies run with polished shield,
Fight those bastards 'til they yield
Through Sombra's stare and blood red roam,
Fight to keep this land your own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How many of them can we make die!

Follow orders as you're told,
Make their yellow blood run cold
Fight until you die or drop,
A force like ours is hard to stop

Close your mind to stress and pain,
Fight till you're no longer sane
Let not one damn cur pass by,
How many of them can we make die!

Guard your women and children well,
Send these bastards back to hell
We'll teach them the ways of war,
They won't come here any more

Use your shield and use your head,
Fight 'til every one is dead
Raise the flag up to the sky,
How many of them can we make die!

Dawn has broke, the time has come,
Move your feet to a marching drum
We'll win the war and pay the toll,
We'll fight as one in heart and soul
Through Sombra's stare and blood red roam,
Fight to keep this land your own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How many of them can we make die!

Axes flash, broadsword swing,
Shining armor's piercing ring
Ponies run with polished shield,
Through Sombra's stare and blood red roam,
Fight to keep this land your own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How many of them can we make die!
