We have enough omake bonuses at this point that we could simply just chuck them at the problem and turn a possible failure into a resounding success. The issue is, it's quite possible that he's at least somewhat protected from assassinations - and regarding the fact that our proto-queen changeling has such abysmal chances to kill the target gives me the idea that it's because he has Phalanx's changelings keeping him alive so he can fuck up Maretonia even more.
...except for our best Intrigue asset, possible future changeling queen and main source of insight into the changeling mindset you mean? THAT Rose?Atleast its worth a try , pegicles already antagonised us
Even if the rolls fail we dont have much to lose except for rose
Shes clearly volunteering im just saying we can try...except for our best Intrigue asset, possible future changeling queen and main source of insight into the changeling mindset you mean? THAT Rose?
Also the secret of there being shapeshifters in this world, that currently only WE know about?
Yeah, that definitely isn't important...
And I'm just saying we have a lot to lose if this fails, while military victory is all but certain AND will result in a more politically advantageous result than an assassination.
Good point lol😂👍Moot point anyway. War will likely be over before we get a chance to reconsider the assassination
You do know that we can only use a limited amount of omakes for each roll?We have enough omake bonuses at this point that we could simply just chuck them at the problem and turn a possible failure into a resounding success.
You do know that we can only use a limited amount of omakes for each roll?
Yes, that.
Well I hope we don't have to deal with mad cultists.
Total War Disharmony: The Kingdom of the Ever Free
Hello loyal followers and welcome to another dev diary. While last time we talked about a group near and dear to our hearts for the obvious reasons, today it is about quite nearly the polar opposite. Where Equestria has been confirmed by lore to grow into a large and mighty nation there is always room for those who made up the land and population unified. Typically referred to collectively as "Minors" or minor powers these represent a valuable opportunity for us to create flavorful opponents and challenging scenarios.
The Kingdom of the Ever Free is an example of what is usually called a bandit kingdom. Many were the lost souls with nowhere left to turn that ended their journey under the leafy boughs that High King Ghurlenn called his own. With the Mad God still flitting about the continent the Deer welcomed the newcomers as they always had, unknowingly shielding themselves somewhat from visitation as tempers and culture caused friction between the newcomers and the existing tribes.
After the defeat of Discord and at the start of the game the Ever Free are in a tough place. The Heavenly Sisters are nearly their neighbors, leading to their early demise as a faction early on in most test games, and they are nearly surrounded by the petty kingdoms of the Earth ponies. It will take a clever commander to keep from being ground under by the weight of history.
Faction wise the Ever Free get bonuses to raiding and sacking enemy territories as befits their "might makes right" mindset. When taking a settlement it is also possible to make it a tributary rather than seizing it outright, allowing the player to build buffer zones between them and their enemies as the tributaries do not belong to your faction and thus are not dragged into your wars while still able to call upon you for protection.
The main "trick" of the Ever Free is a choice similar to that of the Caribou Jarls, Yaks, and Libertalia: do you take up the ways of the foreigners or grip tighter to what makes you special? For the Ever Free this comes as a series of events that culminates in a quest battle against the internal faction you did not side with.
Siding with the "civilized" faction brings you more in line with the standard factions, with better infrastructure and legitimacy as you turn away from banditry. The other path brings spiritualism to the fore, spreading the forest that will eventually bear a corrupted version of your name, make all invaders take attrition when in lands that you have spread your forest to, and makes your elites elite-er.
As the High King of a group of lesser "lords" your core troops are usually Deer with a handful of Pony formations that are equivalent to common mercenary units. Deer warriors are typically either lance or ranged infantry with sword troops in a higher tier. The difference between a group of young warriors charging an enemy to gore them upon their antlers versus veterans who have learned how to cut and parry with their impressive racks. Of course, you also get access to an impressive selection of war beasts, improved by taking the spiritualist path. Bears and hydras, followed by Timberwolves and Cockatrices once you embrace the Heart of the Wild to protect your lands.
Ranged troops vary from does with slings to javelin throwers with atlatl-alikes to poison bomb throwers.
Lord wise, the High King is an impressive duelist with a skill tree to support that. Generic melee and caster characters are also available, with the Heart of the Wilds path unlocking a hybrid Generic character that rides a Hydraling with an improved Unique variant on a fully grown hydra. From these there are a multitude of "making it rain" quips from the testers, ranging from the visual effect of the Regrowth spell to the sync kill animations hydras get.
That will be all for today so make sure to tune in next time when we talk about beasts and where you find them.
Total War Disharmony: Beasts and Where You Find Them
Minor powers are all well and good, but they are naturally limited in their scope. Unless you choose a start next to them you are unlikely to face them in honorable combat. Instead, today I have been asked to speak about something that is the business of all empires: independent random spawns. The bandits, aggressive wildlife, and crazies that have built up over the reign of the Mad God and demand a response from any up and coming empire. But rather than like in previous installments these independents are not just locking off regions from your expansion.
In every region there is one to three Points of Interest. Marshes that can be drained to provide fertile farmland, pits that can serve as quarries or simple mines, warrens dug into valuable resources, old growth forest overrun by monsters; sites with a single, sometimes branching building chain that provide benefits to a growing empire. Developing these sites will also alter the world space itself as the wilds are reclaimed and civilization reestablished. Farmlands and villages will consume the marshes and swamps whiles mines burrow into the earth.
Of course, these areas are not uninhabited. Wildlife and hostile tribes will not take kindly to their ancestral lands being "desecrated" in the name of progress and safety and so must be met with force. Clear their armies and capture the point to destroy their "lair" to remove their threat in the future. These forces will be thematic to the area they are found in and over time will grow in strength and number. So taking a settlement is not enough: the surroundings must be cleared of hostiles.
Here, have a rundown of the various "mini-factions" of the independents:
Diamond Dog packs were hit hard by the Mad God and are often feral. Their units can all traverse the battlefield from below and comprise of miners wielding picks, warriors with clubs, and veterans with stolen equipment. (Some factions can benefit from their presence, such as Emperor Gold-Feathers and his Charisma build, once pacified)
Blightweaver's brood huddle together where food and shelter can be found. Spiders that have inherited some of the possible divinity of their parent, they come in multiple sizes and with a few different abilities. Waiting for the return of their progenitor with what passes for fear and anticipation among their kind. [AN: Credit where it's due, Blightweaver is from The World is Filled With Monsters on Fimfiction]
The Cult of Laughter celebrates the ironic punishments levied by the Mad God onto those that he thought deserving and with his obvious absence they strive to cause turmoil in his stead with a mix of addled rabble, twisted aberrations, and Chaos Spawn. [AN: I actually forget what this setting was called on DeviantArt, I'll have to find that tomorrow unless someone remembers House Earthborn, I think]
A sizable portion of the wildlife were caught within the Mad God's games before being discarded without a thought once the idle amusement of their predicament faded. Some of these beasts remain in the wild, from the familiar cockatrices and manticores to stranger things yet. Mighty ogres and trolls eke out a meager living among their lessers as well, with simple intellect added to fiendish brawn.
The magical upheaval from the end of an era has released spirits and beings from a previous age. Often crazed and all wishing to renew their impact on the world these elementals and demigods jealously protect what is theirs or them.
Bandits and renegades are a world wide constant as previously one could consider fifty miles an impassable gulf with the capricious omniscience of the undisputed ruler. Now these camps and settlements are thrust back into reach of those they fled and wronged, sending the dregs of a nation's armies back at them; along with the occasional surprise.
This mechanic is also used by a handful of factions around the map, where a lair is spawned on empty tile by spending some resource be it gold or something more arcane. Harrying the enemy as you marshal your forces for more permanent action or merely draining money from the recipients coffers through theft or damage.
While providing a source of early game experience and resistance, these independents can also be used by several factions as previously mentioned. Usually this will take the form of giving up the Point in exchange for recruiting its inhabitants to add to your ranks. Gold-Feather can formally turn a Mine into a warren and eventually Under Town in that province to provide Imperial Auxilliaries of Diamond Dogs, Brochard puts aside land for mostly controlled troll bands to draw troops from (a troop type now infamous for the "you need a hug" meme on the forum pulled from the Imperial trailer of the siege of Feathersia), and a number of less morally strict factions can recruit mercenaries of other races.
To prevent player burn out on these small forces two mechanics have been added. First, these lairs and their stacks will grow in size as other Points are cleared and survivors pulled into the remaining lairs. And second, every lair will have a set primary but a random secondary race to represent things like bandits finding a way to tame beasts or spirits grudgingly tolerating the destructive cultists that share the same goal of returning the world to anarchy.
This does somewhat humorously lead to some interesting army compositions in game with the current test builds. Where the auto-generated stacks are completely broken in a weak or overpowering way with too many units of the same type, be it missile infantry, chaff, monsters, or artillery. Changes to make the generator fill a number of specific slots from the lists should remove this going forward at least.
(OOCly, think of this like TW Napoleon's secondary site system, except filled with baddies and affecting the map a lot more as one of the themes of TW Disharmony is reclaiming the world. Or rebuilding it in your factions architectural style, that works too.
So... Neighponese, Caribou, or Zebrican tribes next?)

Under normal circumstances, this Skill will be at a much higher rank, but Gabriela's own feelings about being called "Goddess" prevented it from manifesting properly. In the case of her husband, this Skill will only manifests in one specific Class.

Personal Skills:
Protection of the Crystal Heart: C
Is a Skill denoting a protection given by the Crystal Heart, a mysterious and very powerful object.
This particular Skill would be much stronger if she was summoned in the Caster-Class, but even so, in the case of facing creatures whose hearts "Has been consumed by darkness", the user gains + modifier in the Parameter of her choice. Additionally, despite the fact that her Caster self is in many ways similar to the one of her "Hubby", both are, somehow, fundamentally different.
Dragon Slayer: B
Is one of the special Skills provided for those who have took down a member of the Dragon Kind. It is not a talent given from heaven, but from killing a dragon. It can be said that the anecdotes themselves have become this Skill.
In other countries, the story of a knight in shining armor who manages to defeat a powerful Dragon is not strange at all. However, in Griffonia, the knight in shining armor is almost always a female, and even more shockingly, said female is often not even a knight. This is all because the Mercenary Queen has been recorded in the collective of Griffonia citizens as the Dragon Slayer example, which is hilarious, considering one of her daughters is one.
Natural Body: C
Possesses a perfect body as a living being from birth. The owner of this Skill is treated as if his STR is always Rank-Up. Furthermore, even without training her muscles are brawny and her body shape doesn't change no matter how much calories she intakes.
The popular belief that even as a child, the female who would one day become an Empress could raise her own crib with little to no effort continues to this day, parents all over the land telling their children that if they eat their vegetables, then they maybe will grow to become as strong as the Mercenary Queen. Whether or not this is true, Gabriela just laughs to her heart content, no bothering to answer at all.
Noble Phantasm:
Mercenary Bounds: A Thrust, Follow by Hundreds.
Rank: B-
Type: Anti-Unit
Range: 2-4
Maximum Number of Targets: 50 People.
"My comrades, my friends, my family! Now, that's what you're up against. Take this, Mercenary Bounds!"
In essence, a simple but effective Noble Phantasm. When its True Name is revealed and the spear is thrown towards the designated enemy, a strange phenomenon will take place: If the spear is dodged or blocked, an identical spear will immediately manifest and charge again towards the enemy with the same strength as the first one. This process will repeat until one of two things happens, the enemy is unable to keep blocking and a spear hits them, or the spears run out, an approximate number between 100 and 200.
As the name suggests, this Noble Phantasm exists because of the Mercenary group that Gabriella was part of before marrying Garrick Golden Feather I. It is said that once a year, that mercenary group, whose name has been lost in the annals of history, towards a visit to the palace, where both monarchs received with open arms, completely ignoring any kind of protocol. At the Empress's funeral, those who carried the coffin were the few remaining members of her original squad, just four Griffons carrying a solid gold coffin from the center of the giant capital to the Royal Cemetery.
Family helps each other, so the existence of this Noble Phantasm is more than expected for her.
Apparently, Gabriella originally had a second Noble Phantasm, Remembrance Glory: Black Spear, but for some reason, she seems to lack it, even in this Class. According to documents, her Black Spear was only seen once, at a ceremonial event, but after that, any documents supporting its presence simply don't exist. According to a famous historian who has spent decades studying the royal family, the possibility that Gabriella just lost the Spear is ... eerily high.

Presence Concealment: A+
Presence Concealment is the capacity to hide one's presence as a Servant. It is a common Class Skill of the Assassin class.
At this Rank, it hides one's presence as a Servant. Suitable for spying. It is possible to disappear completely and become almost impossible to be detected, even against a Servant's perception. However, efficiency will decrease once preparations to attack are taken. According to ceratin Lancer, the reason why he has this Skill instead of Espionage, is because is the fact that he is a spy is as obvious as a giant pink Yak.
Personal Skills:
Calm and Collected: A++
Suppress emotions, analyze the situation, process information, visualize the result. Remain calm in any situation while taking into account all factors, making the most optimal result being in the palm of his claw. At this Rank, in addition to grand plus correction to mental resistance, Ravenburg is able to discern lies and discover hidden patterns.
Weakness to Roses: B
Ravenburg was a Spymaster without equal, the few documents that have been revealed to this day make it very clear that he was a deciding factor in the growth of the Empire ... however, like the mightiest of warriors, not even him was unbeatable.
Rose, that is a name that is repeated in some hyper-secret documents that were revealed to the public by mistake. It is unknown if Rose was a code, a name, or the actual flower, but one thing is clear, Ravenburg did not hold it/him/her in high esteem. The reason? According to a letter attached to one document "Because Oh, how our enemies would laugh! And Oh, how would florists become as rich as a King! If only they knew that what is necessary to keep us away from their lands is a simple Rose... "
It goes without saying that enough roses are capable of destroying Ravenburg Spiritual Core and that even the scent of a single one seems to make him feel sick. If indeed Rose was an individual, as many speculate, the result of her presence in the same Holy Grail War as him is impossible to predict.
Throwing (Feather): C+
Is the expertise for throwing projectile weapons; in this case, feathers. A way to eliminate incapacitate, eliminate and/or distract targets using an unconventional but always available weapon for any Griffon. By using the element of surprise, its effectiveness increases. To this day, this technique is still utilized by the M.T.A.
Noble Phantasm:
Nirgendwo Berichte: In Shadows, Unseen - Unheard - Untouched.....The Ministry of Threat Analysis was and continues to be to this day one of the best Intelligence Services in the world. Ravenburg is known as the father of the organization, his contributions being the cornerstone for its effective operations, even after so many years.
Type: Anti-City
Rank: C
Range: 1-99
Maximum number of targets: 999 Persons.
"Unseen - Unheard -Untouched" that's the essence of that feared organization as well as its unofficial Motto.
At the end of each night since Assassin is summoned, a series of reports will reach his Master under unknown circumstances. The reports will go into detail about everything related to the War, from the terrain (including escape routes from the place where the Assassin's Master is currently), the clashes that occurred that day, a physical description of participants, and even covering things not related to the current conflict, with the passing of the nights, the repots would exponentiating more detailed, almost like if spy network were becoming more professional or its reputation were consolidating in the real world. Where does this vital information come from? Who carries it out? Familiars, wraiths, maybe summonings? That is an answer that even Assassin is unable to answer, only someone with peak abilities specifically designed to see (feel) what is occult to the common eye can give a certain answer.
Oddly, Ravenburg seems to be proud of this fact. His spies advance so much that hey have surpass him, ironic without a place to doubt, but nonetheless impressive.
Operation Winged Freedom: No Poor Soul Shall Be Left Behind
Rank: C+
Type: Anti-Slavery

"Operation Start ... 3 ... 2 ... 1!"
The most famous counterintelligence work in history, known all around the globe thanks to the countless books, movies, and series that have been created around it. This is Assassin's finest Trump Card, the power to rescue anyone.
The truth is that the difference between "rescuing" and "stealing" is very thin, especially for cultures as different as those of the Maretonians and the Griffonians. For the slavers, those beings were numbers, goods, but still valuable, due to their high price and being the main labor force of the entire Kingdom, for that reason, for the nobles of that time, the event carried out by Ravenburg was nothing short to than the largest robbery act in history in all Maretonian history.
In other words, as long as the objective is considered of value to someone, be it sentimental, monetary, or spiritual, then they can be "Rescued". A Noble Phantasm who teleports the target to where Assasin deems safe, regardless of whether that location is actually safe. The outside of the city, in the way of an attack, right in a trap, at the discretion of the Master Of Whispers, this is an unparalleled advantage. Even he can replicate the effects of Disengage when using it on himself!
The only disadvantages of this ability are its cost of Mana, which although not extraordinarily high, could dramatically weaken a Master if used on rapid succession or with a large group of people and that he must be aware of the current whereabouts of the target. On the other hand, Servants with high Magic Resistance can ignore the effects, but such a thing is nothing more than a nuisance considering that their Masters do not have such a benefit.
Technically, there is no limit of how many people Ravenburg can rescue, but it would take a ridiculous amount of Mana to do something like rescue an entire city with one use.
Admittedly, this is partially why I do these.

His spies advance so much that they have surpassed him, ironic without a place to doubt, but nonetheless impressive.
Operation Winged Freedom: No Poor Soul Shall Be Left Behind
Type: Anti-Slavery
Rank: C+
Range: -
Maximum Numbers of Targets: -
"Operation Start ... 3 ... 2 ...
Nah. Different one. Was never an emperor.
He is probably riding high on his recent victories and I doubt he knows much about the political situation in griffonia and neighbors. Is this guy really dumb enough to effectively go to war with the countries currently aiding his, that are in a major alliance that (I'm pretty sure) exceed his in popularity (the man is most know for devastating his own country), wartime economy (golden triangle of trade protected by/not bothered by pirated), technology (more dakka), population, and maybe even magic (Merlin)?
Welp world leaders have done more stupid things.
The Duke better get the lube.
Clever use of a meme here, my dude."Wait… our enemies are all griffons?"
"Always has been," replied Pegicles.
