Omake: Fire and Fury (Canon, Eventually)
AN: So in honor of New Years and the fireworks keeping me up I dedicate this omake introducing the Hellstorm Rocket Battery from Warhammer Fantasy. Dubbed so when a rocket nearly hit the head of state and the litany of curses used to reprimand the crew.

Fire and Fury

Ophelia Feathertally is a Profesor of the Imperial University of the Crystal Protectorate. Her job is to mold the young and inquisitive minds of her students into sharp and productive members of society.

The University provides a variety of courses, from an Officer and Diplomat Course, to a Medicine and Engineering Course. Each course have different ways to graduate. The Officer course given a war game where they have to work in teams and win the scenario through planning and indirect feedback by couriers which are the examiners who also give them situations for them to overcome. The Diplomats are given a variety of diplomatic situations and told to solve them. For the Engineering Course, the students must make a proof of concept prototype of an invention that can benefit society.

Since she is a Professor in the Engineering department, she is now inspecting what looks like a Fireworks rack.

"So this is your final term invention, Mr. Blackclaw?"

"Yes, ma'am. I still need to figure out a name, but I think this will revolutionize how we can protect our home."

"And how would your invention do that exactly?"

"Well, with the introduction of the cannon and explosives, the Empire is able to punch above its weight class. Without them, we would not have won the Winter Wars and defeated Sombra like we did. Thus I have designed a weapon that combined the range of a cannon with the explosive power of a mine, but wait there is more. With multiple rockets this invention can launch the equivalent to 6 cannons simultaneously and can be reloaded at the fraction of the time as all that is needed, is to attach the premade rockets to their racks."

"Interesting, So how did this invention came to be?"

"My family operates a fireworks business, thus I have an intimate understanding of fireworks and explosives. Over the years, I experimented with miniature rockets and I feel confident enough today to present this as my research invention."

"Then by all means, show me a demonstration."

"Alright the first step would be to make the rocket itself. I made these with my family's equipment and permission, I have included the process in my research paper. Once the rockets are made you simply slot it in the rack, tie their fuses together, aim the rack in the general direction of the enemy and then you light the fuse."

As he did the motions, Mr. Blackclaw pointed his weapon at a field of scarecrows. With the fuses lit, it didn't take long for the rockets to ignite and launch itself into the air. 4 hit the general area of the scarecrows and explode catching a few of them on fire and a few are blown away by the blast resulting in a small crater. But one corkscrew in the air and flew to the left before threading itself through an open window in the Military department wing and exploded inside.

"... isn't that Sergeant Earlybird's classroom?"

"... I am sooo dead."

"WHO BLEW UP MY CLASSROOM!? WHEN I GET MY CLAWS ON THE SORRY EXCUSE OF A LIFEFORM WHO DID THIS I WILL RIP THEIR SKULL FROM THEIR SPINE AND MOUNT THEM ON MY WALL!"

"What are you doing standing around?! FLY! FLY YOU FOOL!" at my command Mr. Blackclaw beats a hasty retreat just as the livid sergeant emerged from the window and flew down to me.

"Ms. Feathertally, if you would be so kind as to tell me the identity of the bird who blew up my classroom I promise when I get my claws on him I will not Strangle him with his own living guts!"

Before I could reply another Griffon, Captain Steeltalon arrived to the scene. "Settle down Sarge, I need a sitrep, what is the situation?"

Begrudgingly, the Sergeant took a deep breath, calmed down, and saluted."Sir, my students and I were just returning from a War Game before I heard the sound of fireworks and explosion from outside my classroom window. When I looked through, I saw a firework corkscrew outside before straightening itself directly towards the window. I quickly push my students out into the hall and closed the door. Once the firework exploded inside the classroom, I opened the door to see my classroom is a burning warzone. I looked outside and saw Ms. Feathertally standing next to the cause of the damage and a griffin flying to the hills. I was just questioning the Ms. before you arrived sir. That conclude my report."

The Captain nodded before saying. "At ease sergeant, return to your class and continue your session in one of the spare rooms I'll take it from here and have this sorted out."

"Sir yes sir." With that Sergeant Earlybird flew back to attend to his flock.

"So Ms. Feathertally can you please explain to me what happened?"

After a thorough explanation, finding Mr. Blackclaw, and the Captain convincing him that he will not be expelled and is infact willing to fund his research into turning his invention into a more reliable weapon for the Empire. However his invention nearly cause a lot of injuries so as punishment Mr. Blackclaw will get join Sergeant Earlybird's class in PT for a week with the instructor taking extra care to find much more imaginative ways to 'motivate' him through the course.

I heard that he had found a name for his invention, said it was inspired by the volatile sergeant who is now his worst nightmare.

@Questor, hope you enjoy this omake. Sergeant Earlybird was based off of R.Lee Ermey, originally was supposed to be Earlybirdie but I'll assume he shortened it to be more professional. His lines are inspired by Sergeant Johnson in Halo Combat Evolved. Snuck in a Lord of the Rings references with Ms. Feathertally. Captain Steeltalon's name was based off GDI Steel Talons division of Command and Conquer 3. The university's different tests is something I made up that makes some sense for their future line of work, but if you feel it isn't right you can tell me what it is and the reason so I can correct it. We had fireworks for years, someone is bound to say "What happens when I point it at a wall?"

Enjoyed catching up on this quest. Not usually a MLP fan, but this was pretty good. Would it be possible for the QM to post the vote results for each vote on the next threadmarked post?

Ah, finally someone hits on the glory that is the Katyusha. This oughta be good.

I dont think it qualifies as a Katyusha yet. The reloading and firing procedures need refinement. As it stands the rocket launcher is an alpha strike weapon. Mount on an inexpensive carriage, wheel it to just behind the front line at the start of the battle or before a charge, fire, bug out to the supply train.

Well has anyone done any omakes on what the Abolitionists think of the Griffons or the rest of the Northern Border, cause do we even know what kind of Government they would be if they win the civil war?

That is a problem yes, and one we will need to solve soon. For all we know they could have no real idea on what to do next, or worse, replace it with something fundamentally flawed. Also @Raptor580 im doing fine thank you for asking.

Anyone remember when everyone was talking about having Gwyndlyn eat the Crystal Heart? I'm surprised no one has made an omake of that. If if it's non-canon it could be a good omake idea.

Spies, Lies, and Apple Pie

A loud shout echoed through the manor followed swiftly by shattering pottery.
"Trouble on the front lines, oh great leader?", a lilting voice teased from the doorway to the study.
"Countess Copper Top, what a pleasant surprise to see you today, the slaves didn't inform me of your arrival. Why is that I wonder?", Duke Haygle accused as he settled back behind his oaken desk.

"I'd say it had something to do with running away after you threw a vase at their heads upon entering the room.", Copper Top replied as she closed the door behind her and approached the desk, setting the copper dome she had held in her telekinetic grip upon it.
"That's no excuse! I shall have to punish them later. What is this you've placed before me, my dear Countess?".

"Just a little treat for the illustrous leader of House White Star.", she tittered as she removed the lid,"An apple pie, I baked myself! I do so enjoy cooking my own meals, you know, and I know how much you adore apples. All the ingredients come fresh from my little garden.". It was true of course, even before the queen's unfortunate demise, Copper Top had made it a point to allow her cooks to only prepare food for her servants, and not the mare herself. What would have been decried as paranoia, especially in these turbulant times, was simply seen as the eccentricity it may or may not have been of a noble mare who enjoys the act of cooking. Haygle firmly believed her love of cooking was only a half truth for her reasons. A happy coincidence, some may say.

"Ypu are, of course, correct my dear. It is quite infuriating that all the orchards are in Storm controlled territory. How is your garden by the way, I hear your nightshade is in full bloom.", Duke Haygle says as he eyes the noble opposite him with a single raised brow.
"The flowers are such a lovely shade of violet don't you think?", Copper Top sweetly asks as she begins to set a plate on the desk.
"Indeed.",Haygle grinds out with a glare."Why exactly are you here, Copper Top?".

"Fine, be that way.", she says as she cuts herself a piece of the pie. "Can a lady not just drop by for a chat over dessert?". She daintily takes a bite, and gives the Duke a pointed look.
"I suppose a lady can.", the Duke replies as he too gets a piece. "What would she talk about if she did?".

" I believe she'd ask why you are throwing valuable decorations at the help." Copper smirks.
"Hmph! It's those damnable griffons! They've sent soldiers over the border to train those slaves with delusions of grandeur! Abolitionists, bah, if anything will be abolished it shall be them, mark my words! They are even being led by a dirt digger, it os laughable! Oh, if only those mages would actually cooperate with me! Surely they know of the unicorns supremacy over all others!", rants the duke, his pie forgotten before him.

"Yes, the mages, and what precisely will they be doing if they cooperated? I do not believe you have ever said. Why Lady Silver thinks you want a magical plague that will leave only unicorns standing and Sir Plum believes they are experimenting on a dragon! Now speculation is all well and good, but I hear that the stallion is asking a lot of questions, he would not be right perchance would he?". Copper Top asks.
"Now that would be telling my dear, just know that it will bring us absolute and total victory before those hornless wastrels become aware of what happened! Then I shall be the uncontested ruler of this land, and then continue on to destroy our enemies to the north!".

Copper Top stood, and with an inclined head said."Splendid! Well this has been utterly Delightful Duke Haygle, but I must go and supervise a delivery of copper to the city, after the last went missing I really must see to it myself. I wish you well.". And with that she breezed through the door and into the hall with nary a backward glance at either her empty plate or the surprised duke.
Shocked out of his vitriol, Haygle angrily bit into the sweet before him. Say what you will about the mare, but Countess Copper Top's pie was delicious.

An omake for you @Questor I hope you like it!
I attempted to do a conversation between two nobles in a faction rife with infighting, but I'm not sure how well I did.
The pie is a lie. Nightshade in the pie

So how's everyone doing while we wait for the update. And good omake ideas floating around.
I have a few.

More letters between our dragon daughter and the Not!Japanese emperor. Just some cute things

Family game night

Family Sparring Day (Two martially inclined parents basically guarantees this)

Tall Tales of the Empire (and some that are not but seem so) for example tales about Hardbeak with things like a (Possibly) fictional birth story like as a hatchling he found a knife and managed to kill a discordian snake with it when it tried to smother him in bubblegum and things like (potentially) fictional training stories like how he beat the grandmaster on his first day.

Archimedes studying magic and getting frustrated over how much "Feelings" have to do with it. Can't measure and quantify feelings and this irks him.

The royal children being kids with little misadventures like raiding the kitchen and escaping down the stairs with a roast chicken atop a serving platter or trying to prank their parents or siblings only to have it backfire doing experiments with archimedes that get out of hand (Examples include things like filling the castle with suds, accidentally blowing up the classroom, turning the royal guard's armor a bright pink, and similar things) and more.

Garrick realizing his little girls are now teenagers and going all protective dad and actively glaring down any guys who try to talk to them. Possibly from the POV of both the unfortunate suitor and Garrick himself for extra laughs. Just imagine the princess smiling at him gently but behind her Garrick looms emitting an aura of death and danger as he glares at them and the guy just goes "Nope!". Princess is confused, Garrick is filled with the satisfaction only a protective father who scared off a guy can know, and the suitor is suitably frightened by the prospect of earning Garrick's ire.

A lot of these would be a lot of fun to read (and possibly write)

These are all fine Omake ideas. I will leave them to those with a talent for writing and focus on my slip lol.

Minotaur Dialogues, Part 2
Gisa and her colleagues sat and shared food and drink with their Minotaur hosts, exchanging pleasantries and introducing themselves.

The first of the welcoming contingent went by the name of Steel Will, who she gathered was one of the more prominent and influential members of the local government, selected by his fellows to serve as the representative of the city-state and the point of contact between them and the Empire. He was by far the most flamboyantly dressed of the three bulls sat atop the hill, numerous bits of jewelry accessorizing his colorfully dyed cloak.

To his immediate left sat a particularly fit looking male who introduced himself as Bronze Fist, who she gathered was some manner of military official. His plain formal garb was supplemented by a steel pauldron over his left shoulder. She wasn't sure if that was a sign of rank or profession or merely a personal quirk of his. He had been largely silent this far, preferring to let his civilian counterpart do most of the talking.

And finally, seated closer to the party of Imperial diplomats than either of his compatriots, was Gold Touch, father of Gold Heart and the patrician that had sponsored Light Step's citizenship. His fashion sense appeared to fall somewhere between that of his compatriots, a cloak with embroidered gold thread and a single silver ring his only accoutrements. He was engaged in quite conversation with his daughter and the Earth Pony who had assisted her. Gisa couldn't make out what they were saying, but judging by the look on the young equine's face and his daughter's reactions to his words, he was receiving a classic 'overprotective father' speech.

After the initial pleasantries and sharing of food, Gisa was pleased to have their host break the proverbial ice as he nodded in her direction.

"I'm sure there is much you wish to know about us. I'd be pleased to answer any questions you may have."

[X] What are The Minotaur Republic's main imports and exports for trade?

Steel Will shrugged.

"We imported very little from Maretonia, as they had little that we did not already possess...though their gold was valued. As for exports..."

He gestured to the contents of the table before them.

"We possess many luxury goods. Fine food and drink, marble, dyes, spices, glassware...that sort of thing."

Gisa nodded. That made a sort of sense. She could certainly see the nobility of Maretonia paying an awful lot for such products. Still, she couldn't help but feel like there was something missing from that list.

Light Step had seen entire ships holds full of gold and silver. Was all of that wealth really being used to purchase only luxury goods?

Despite her doubts, she refrained from asking such a probing question so soon. No need to risk offending their hosts so quickly.

[X] What other locations and polities are you aware of?

Steel Will opened his mouth to speak, only to be suddenly interrupted by Gold Touch.

"Saddle Arabia. It's a kingdom not too dissimilar from Maretonia to our East. They've been our largest trade partner for years."

The merchant shrugged.

"Other than that, we haven't made contact with too many other nations. We haven't had cause to go looking."

Had Gisa blinked, she would have missed it, but the look that Steel Will gave his colleague at his sudden outburst could have killed lesser beings.

But just as quickly as it came, it was gone, the politician's face resuming its previous friendly look as Gold Touch returned to his discussion with his daughter and her Earth Pony savior.

"As he said."

Gisa refrained from commenting, instead moving on to a different topic.

[X] What kind of threats do your people face?

Bronze Fist breaks his silence.

"Very few, thankfully. We are on relatively good terms with all of the nations and kingdoms that we possess knowledge of, and our nature as an island nation lends us a decent amount of protection from foreign threats. Most of our security concerns are internal. The occasional rabid Manticore, an outbreak of Qua-Ray Eels whenever a mine digs too deep, and of course the ever-present threat of bandits and assorted brigands."

The armored male shook his head.

"Nothing that poses a serious threat to our existence or way of life."

Gisa outwardly smiled and nodded, but in the inside she couldn't help but seethe a little. Was the rest of the world really this naturally peaceful, or did the Empire just have the bad luck to always be involved in a war of some kind? She tried not to let her thoughts dwell upon the subject, instead moving on to the next line of questioning.

[X] What are the main tenets of your culture and belief system?

Steel Will retook control of the conversation, eager to share knowledge of his people.

"We are primarily a mercantile culture. Trade and commerce are the cornerstones of a functioning society, and it is through such cooperation that our society has come to know such prosperity."

The elder states-bull gestured to the city below them. Gisa had to admit, it was hard to argue with that worldview when the evidence of the benefits was on display. Steel Will continued.

"Integrity and reliability are important qualities to us. The payment of debts, the keeping of one's word, the upholding of laws and contracts...that sort of thing."

Steel Will shook his hand in a so-so gesture.

"But then, that only covers Labyrinthian. Most of the other City-States have slight variations on that cultural summation...with the possible exception of Stratos. They're...quite a bit more militaristic than us, though not in a necessarily aggressive way."

The patrician shook his head.

"But yes, that basically summarizes the most basic tenets of our culture."

Gisa nodded. That was easy enough to wrap her head around. Finally, she moved on to the last question she had for her bipedal hosts.

[X] What do you want most out of an accord with us?

Steel Will held his hands out, palms up.

"A trade partner, and an ally against the destructive forces that we know exist beyond our borders."

The politician returned his hands to his sides and glanced towards Light Step, still in conversation with the two members of the Gold Family.

"Your...informant...told us stories about Sombra. I shudder to imagine what might have occurred had we been the ones to stumble across him."

Steel Will returned his gaze to Gisa, his expression troubled.

"I have no doubt that, despite our hopes to the contrary, we will one day face an enemy that cannot be reasoned or bargained with, one that would rather conquer and enslave than trade and profit."

He gestured to Bronze Fist, who nodded in acknowledgment of his colleague's words.

"That is one of the reasons why we maintain a core of professional soldiers, despite the costs inherent to doing so. Why we have invested in a permanent navy to defend our shores. Why our government reserves the right to call up any able-bodied citizen to defend their home in a time of crisis."

The elected official looked out over the city below.

"Our land is rich, and we have prospered as a result...but everything has a cost. A cost that we fear we may be forced to pay in blood."

He looked back towards the Griffon ambassador, his eyes bearing a gaze reminiscent of his namesake.

"I'm determined to do all I can to avoid such a fate for my people."

Gisa nodded, standing and offering a talon to the older male with a reassuring smile.

"An understandable and admirable desire. One that the Empire is more than prepared to fulfill."

Steel Will grasped the offered talon with perhaps more force than was necessary, and Gisa's smile became a bit more forced as the bones in her fingers audibly creaked. The Minotaur politico return the smile.

"I am glad to hear that."

After what felt like an eternity, Gisa manages to pry her fingers loose from the vice grip that the Minotaur holds them in as her host resumes speaking.

"Now...speaking of trade..."

Apologies for how long this took. Have been sick with a cold the last couple of days, and that has only compounded the normal writer's block. I've been working in the action list for the next Turn as well, and am nearly done. All that's left to is to write up the flavor text at the start of the turn. Should have that out tomorrow.

Once again, thank you all for following this Quest.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay profits!!!!

Huh, they... are a lot more sheltered than I thought that would be. That, or Gisa is right and we are cursed.

Mercantile cultures sounds about right, though I am very surprised at the lack of naval power shown.

Overall looks good, although. That line about Saddle Arabia bothers me very much. Why would one of their trade partners be of concern in a diplomatic talk? Something stinks. Also, all of their wealth goes to luxury trade? Color me concerned and confused. And how did they not know anything about Maretonias practices? They may be incredibly isolated, but this is a level of sheltered I did not expect. How did they not get affected by Discord?!?So many questions!!!

...So basically the Gryphus Empire walked so the rest of the world could run? Sounds legit. *thumbsup* <3

No worries Questor! We all get it.

I am mostly just happy to see this is still alive!

Well... Saddle Arabia, name implies a connection or at least inspiration from our world's Arabia, and given the history of slavery in that part of the world it makes sense. If there's one thing the Minotaurs learned from us before this it's that we don't like slavers... at all and are willing to fight a war over it. Gee I wonder WHY the Minotaurs might not want us to meet Saddle Arabia.

Keep in mind the world we inhabit bears more resemblace to the 16th to 18th centuries more than any other, and in those eras well slavery was way more common. Given Equus seems to be more idyllic than our world but Maretonia proves that Slavery is not THAT uncommon.

Although we can infer that if Saddle Arabia does deal in slaves they haven't traded slaves with Maretonia yet. Otherwise we'd have heard about Saddle Arabia from the abolitionists in Maretonia first.

It is a canon location in MLP supposedly south of equestria. It is either Saudi arabia expy or Egyptian expy I cannot remember.

Saddle Arabia.... Sphinxes may be in our future, and probably another war...*sigh*:(

They are hiding SOMETHING, I don't know what it is, but I do know it is SOMETHING! They are Merchants, and merchants can be tricky. We should know, our Emperor used to be one.

That's my worry. They mentioned cutting off trade with Maretonia a few posts back because of their slavery, so why would they hide another nation of slavers if connection to one made them quit trade. That's doesnt sound right at all. Something more is a foot.

Edit: @FictionPack hey, at least we can guess the riddle of life easily, and we will get a nice testing ground for our armies if it comes to that. Have faith that it won't.
