think we could get there by like, turn 200?It's...a possibility. Remember, Magic+Technology=crazy stuff. But that is a long, long ways off.

There is a fourth option. Though cut off from the map, there is land above us turning it into a strait with the waters on the Aquilian side not having any other outlet. Think of it like the Black Sea, with us in control of the Bosphorus strait. The fourth option is blocking the strait, locking Aquileia in its entirety from sea trade with the greater world.Right so given the situation we have a choice to make regarding the usage of our navy.
We could keep it in reserve and try to preserve it. Hopefully to keep it ready for using it to attack his capital after we hopefully kick him out of Wingbardy.
Or we could use it aggressively out of the gate. We need every troop we can to fight in Wingbardy since we cannot let it fall so that has to be factored into any plans we make.
Then their is also a middle of the road option of instead of attacking the capital instead simply raiding the north coast instead of a riskier decisive confrontation. This also makes Brochard look weak but isn't as eye catching and likely to turn coats as putting his capital under blockade would be which should be the main objective of this campaign.
If we blockade their capital we could get some massive wins for this war. Remember that Brochard's vassals are on the verge of revolt and the city state are on the fence of doing something, having you capital blockaded right out of the gate is the sort of show of weakness that could push a lot of people our direction. The problem is that would probably need to move troops to those boats for the blockade that won't be coming to the land war in Wingbardy, so we are taking a risk in the main theater doing so.
Personally I think a blockade is the best choice since we didn't build a navy not to use it to maximum effect and with Wingbardy support we should be able to spare some troops without too much risk.
Any other thoughts?
This omake was inspired by Dragon Age Origins, I tried to make the time placement as vague as possible some time during the Discordian Era. Word Count 1.3K
(V(;,,;(V)The skies are grey tonight, if you were superstitious griffon, you'd think it a bad omen. You mused, at least it wasn't pink.
Last Stand
You are Garen Grand-Gust, King of Griffonia, one of the fractured nations of what was once the Mighty Gryphus Empire.
Today you stand at edge of Northern Mountains alongside your fellow rulers to make a stand against the vile Discord.
You all huddle around the war-table going over the plan for the umpteenth time.
"The Gilded Guardians will lure Discord and his forces into charging our lines," Began Representative Galio of Feathersians League.
"Where then, they will be encircled the Grey Warden's pincer maneuver," Continued Duke Graven of Wingbardy.
"And then one of your troop will light the beacon signaling the War Sworn and Knights Lion to charge their flank." Finished Graegis Brochard, King of Aquileia.
"I still think we should have requested the aid of the pony tribes; the threat Discord doesn't just concern us you know." Galio said glaring at the Aquileia King.
"And I told you, we griffons do not need the aid of prey species." Graegis retorted.
"It's too late to have this argument now." You intervened, "We'll have to make do with our current forces."
You only pray it's enough.
(V(;,,;(V)
"Fall back! Fall back!" you commanded your troops.
You are Titania commander of Gilded Guardians a famed mercenary company. Gobs of orange goop sail the air as your Guild retreated.
Your job is to lure to Discord's monsters to the defensive line for a counter attack, you had expected hundreds of monsters a difficult task but doable, but instead you were met with hundreds of thousands of them.
You huffed, not all plans survive contact with the enemy, something you knew well after years in charge of this mercenary company. You had planned to chase the mindless hoard toward the line with superior equipment and numbers, but now you resorted to blitzkrieg tactics.
"Attack! Attack!"
Arrows and javelins fly towards the enemy keeping them engaged.
"Fullbuster! Dragneel! Take care of any stragglers!" You ordered.
"Why don't you hang back featherbrain, I can handle this myself no problem." Fullbuster boasted.
"Like hell, you wetbeak! Why don't you come over here and say that to my face!" Dragneel retorted.
"That is enough out of both of you! I swear, you two don't stop arguing and work together, I will twist you both into pretzels! Do you understand me!" You barked.
"Yeah..." They said resigned, still glaring at each other.
"I said, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME!"
"Aye!" They chorused.
"Good now, we're being paid to lure the whole hoard and the Gilded Guardians don't do things half-backed!"
"Yes, ma'am!"
Those two knuckleheads, they drive you crazy but there's no one else you'd trust to watch your back more than those two. You mused wryly.
You watch as the pair swoop in rythem antagonizing or outright kill any stragglers.
Peppy, the Scout decended towards you.
"Fullbuster and Dragneel have finished corralling the stragglers, shall I sound the retreat." He reported.
"Retreat! Retreat!" the horn was blown again and chase continues.
That's right keep following us.
This had gone on for hours now.
"Flying Piranhas!" One of your men cried!
"Split up and swoop low!" You ordered.
"Arrg! They got me!"
"Help get them off!" One of the new hires, Slippy if you recalled correctly. He was on the ground with piranhas swarming him.
"Falco!" You ordered and he nodded.
He swooped down and plucked Slippy off safety next to.
"Thanks," Slippy thanked relieved.
"It's fine, try… not to get swarmed again." Falco replied, his breath as labored as your right now.
"It's not over yet. Let's show these monsters what we're made of. Now..." You order to attack once more.
Almost there…
"...Eyes up, Guardians"
(V(;,,;(V)
In Peace, Vigilance.
"Do you see them yet?" You asked the look out, he shakes his head.
"They're late." You cursed under your breath.
You are Tiberius Twinblade, commander of the Grey Wardens. You pace back and forth along the ramparts.
"They'll be here. And when do come we will end Discord reign." Duke Graven assured.
"I wish, I had your optimism, my Lord."
"Oh, Chin up commander. Don't you know optimism is the key to success."
You smile at that, before you can respond the scout shouted. "They're here! Sound War horn."
You see them over the horizon, pink clouds marking their approach.
Horns sound alerting the rest of the army of the invading hoard.
Everyone stood at the waiting, some equipped with swords and spears, archers lined to ramparts, the flight team tense ready for takeoff.
"Here they come! Archers!" the duke commanded. And thus, the field was blanketed by arrows.
Many found their mark and many monsters were fell, but there were still more to kill. They come closer.
"Aerial Team!" The flight team took off, their bag filled to the brim with flechettes. The flechettes rained down on the army. Yet still more remain. They come closer still.
You can see them up close now. There were hundreds of thousands of them. There were so many, you couldn't believe your eyes at the monstrosities in front of you.
"Only a few thousand? And here I thought it'll be hard." The duke joked.
"For Wingbardy! For Gryphus!" He yelled leading the charge, and you right alongside him.
In War, Victory
And the battle raged.
Your blades soaked with the blood (or at least an equivalence) of scores of abominations.
You pulled your blade from the skull of a snail-turtle-thing you just impaled.
"Oh drat, I lost count of how many I killed, how many did you kill? I'm pretty sure I killed more than you." Duke Graven joked though clearly tired.
His eyes trailed to the beacon still unlit.
"I'm afraid I wasn't counting, my Lord. Though I believe it was I who killed more than our fair share." You joke back.
"So, you can joke!" Duke Graven gasped in mock surprise.
"Chocolate Moose!" a warning shout came.
Before you could respond a moose made of chocolate rammed into the duke impaling him with it horn.
You behead it with your sword, and quickly knelt to your lord's side.
The duke looked at his wounds seeing the gaping hole where his heart would be.
"Well… would you look at that." He said his voice weary but still with a hint of mirth.
"My lord, I."
Duke Graven stopped me.
"It's fine, dying was always as risk. You know that, I know that. I've accepted it… just tell my boy I died, heroically would you?" he smiled.
"I will…" tears spill from your eyes.
"Don't be afraid to embellish a bit, yeah." Duke Graven, Duke of Wingbardy died with a smile on his face.
The ground trembled as rainbow colored rock golem came upon you.
Your eyes drift to the beacon. It was lit.
You gripped your swords and charged.
In death, Sacrifice.
(V(;,,;(V)
The Beacon was lit.
You are Giovanni Griffinheim, Knight commander of Knights Lion. You and King are leading a charge at the left enemy flank.
"Do not let up! Discord ends tonight!" The King roared charging down with his own spear.
Spears impacting the side of hoard some spears manage to pierce two or three.
Releasing the now stuck spear we drew our swords and began hacking at the enemy.
"Fly up and cut them down!" You ordered. Griffons took to the air and swooped back down holding out their blades cutting swaths of monsters.
Sometime after the battle began chocolate rain began to fall from the sky, slowing the movement of your knight while barely hindering the enemy.
"Do not let up! Do not let them regain their balance!" The King cried.
The Kings blade torn through another and another until the blade broke.
"Your majesty! You swooped down to save to him, but it was unneeded.
The king ducked under an attack and rolled to fallen knight and taking his sword.
"For Griffonia!" He roared stabbing the closest monster.
You both take to the air to survey the battlefield.
"We're being overwhelmed! You cursed.
The king looked towards the distance. "The right flank…"
You looked to the right flank to see it was intact and was reinforcing the left flank.
"Where's Brochard!" The king snarled. "Damn him! He's abandoned the field!"
"We need to get you out of here!" You exclaimed.
"No! I will not abandon my people." He snarled, the he held up his sword and spoke the Knights Lion's war cry.
"We are the Knights Lion, Hear us Roar!"
And you follow him into battle, you could not ask for a better King.
"We are the Knights Lion, Hear us Roar!"
(V(;,,;(V)
The beacon is lit.
You are Graegis Brochard, King of Aquileia. You overlook the battlefield. The enemy is overwhelming, you were meant to swallow them up but exact opposite occurred.
"Sound the retreat." You ordered.
"But… your majesty we…" Your Knight Commander tried to refute.
"Do as I command." You glared.
She nods and obeys.
"Alright troops pull out! Move it."
The battle is lost.
War Sworn no longer, now Forsworn.

It's barely been five years since Discord disappeared. We've had five years without chaos, madness and bloodshed. Well, there were the monsters, but they aren't much compared to the madness of before. For five years we rebuild what we could, and the scars have even started to fade. Sometime we found a place that was important before and it's ravaged, history, resources and all, sometime we found survivors in a cavern or deep into the wood, who thought Discord disappearance was a lie or a trap. It's always a gut punch but it's less and less common. Slowly but surely the scars were fading...
But some idiot, some lucky brute, is throwing it all away for his petty ego ! We're just out of a war that literally broke the law of reality daily and that oaf has nothing better to do than start another ! Why not ? Let's just threaten the life of the innocents again ! Let's burn the fields that were just rebuild ! That sure sound like a jolly good time doesn't it ?!
I'm rushing as fast as I can to the farm. Living close to the borders to live close to the soldiers really doesn't fell like a good idea with a bit of hindsight. The plan is simple, I take Gemma and as much supply as we can and we go into hiding. It's only been five years, the "old" cache isn't that old. We'll be safe for a long time in there, but the invader will pay for forcing my daughter back underground.
Do you know that no plan survives enemy contact ? I knew that. I survived the Discordian Era after all. I just didn't expect enemy contact at all. My only warning was a shadow passing over my eyes and then I was ducking. None to soon at that, the spear that would have impaled me missed by what felt like an inch.
"Oh come on ! How did he see me ?
- I bet he smelled you coming a mile away.
- Fall on yours sword and die Frank
- Please. I can walk a line no matter how hammered I am, you can't even do it sober. There's a reason you have a spear. Even you couldn't harm yourself with it.
- Shut your trap and help me catch him we're loosing ground to the dirt pusher.
Two idiots, greener than a pasture wouldn't be a problem if they were not wearing the Aquileia emblem. With a bit of luck, they still won't be. I should be able to reach the farm without trouble since they don't have any ranged weapon but then I'll have to act fast.
- Hey birdie why you running ? We...
- 's cause you tried to kill him what do you think ?
- It's a rhetorical question Frank ! Let me have my fun.
They almost make me feel sorry for the griffon in charge of them. But much more importantly I'm home and Gemma is outside. I shouted at her : "Gemma, we're running quick !" and thankfully she did not question me and she rushed inside hopefully to take the survival bag. Old habit from when we were scavenging.
I looked back and seeing i had a bit of advance I stop flapping my wing and finished the distance simply planning and taking back my breath. My wonderful daughter had left the door open so I landed inside and headed strait for the fireplace and more to the point toward the sword hanging above. In a deft movement I took it and threw it in the direction of the entrance where it bounced a little before resting than I took one of the javelin and prepared my shot.
- He's a fast one ain't he ? Fiou... Well we kill him say he resisted and take the loot. Profits, rejoice and then a nap. Cool ? Cool. Alright I...
- I go first.
- Eh... What ?
- I go first.
- And why should you uh ?
- I have a sword you have a spear.
- Well give me your sword then and stop wasting time.
- I don't think you understand. Farmer ain't filly, they ain't children and they ain't defenceless. Sure they're not good at war, and they don't have any training but they have pitchfork and you really don't want one coming anywhere near your precious skin. So shut it and let me go first.
- Alright, alright. Fine take the glory I don't care.
Almost clever enough. He put a pawn inside, the javelin flew and taught him why an armour must be worn fully. The point pierced him just under the neck and above the ribs straight to the heart. Dead before he knew it and almost clever enough.
But I didn't wait to see the result. As soon as the javelin left my claw I was moving. Running straight for the door on all fours and grabbing my sword in reverse grip in passing. Since the first target was falling I jumped above him surprising the idiots with the spear. He didn't react badly, he didn't froze or something. He lowered his lance and braced and if I was unarmed he probably would have had me. If.
I punch the spear away with my sword and then with a powerful swing of my wings I flew right at him like an arrow. He was throttled before his eyes were fully widened.
King Brochard is a fool to attack a country were everyone was fighting for there lives only five years ago with green horn and naive young.
- Gemma, you're good ?
- Ready to go !
- Great let me take a few things more and then we're going.
So many of us a tired of war but it seems war isn't tired of us.
NA : To start English isn't my first language and I really hope it doesn't show to much. Sorry if it does.
So yeah, had a thought. The Discordian Era wasn't exactly peaceful was it ? And even after life was far from easy so is Brochard sure he want to go in with quantity over quality ? Is attrition might be a bit through the roof marching in enemy territory.
Not Omake
For a strategy I'd say it depend. Is he going all in or just aiming for Wingbardy ?
If his troupes are separated I believe we should go to Wingbard and help the Duke with the full army and have a great victory here that might be enough for a revolt in Brochard's land. With a quality and terrain advantage I don't see us loosing to a army that doesn't have a considerable number advantage.
If he's going all in we could send troupes to harass the big army so it has to slow down and can't just mount a siege or an assault without loosing is rear and flank while we gun for his capital or other important nodes in his mainland. That might be enough to break his army but it's will have Wingbardy land and people taking the weight rather than our army until the final clash or surender.
For the fleet I'm conflicted. We have boats they're not there just for show and it be useful if it was know and if our crew could get the experience but on the other hand ship have no loyalty. If we win the war and Aquileia's navy still there and intact we could just add it to ours.
If we wish for an aggressive fleet (maritime now but air latter) that will go in the meat of the battle gun/arrow/grappling blazing or if we will use them more as a merchant fleet and as carrier for our troupes. If it's the first we need to create the maritime military culture now or soon, if it's the second more ship and less bloodshed is probably better.

First off, yay canon.
Second, what is your Omake criteria/policy in which you reward points?
@Questor Would you be willing to roughly estimate the amounts of troops Dog Fighters and Expand the Army would give us?
Could you fix the sudden BOLD TEXT? It annoys me[x] Plan WAR
Onwards, to Glory!: You have an army and a navy. You have a suit of armor and a blade worthy of your station. You have Knights. And now you have an excuse, one that no one will begrudge you. Wingbardy won't last long on its own. Rally your forces and march to war! (Wingbardy Campaign Begins!)
Expand the Army: Well, Brochard has made the first move. The war for the future of all Griffon-Kind has begun. Your army has been sufficient to patrol your borders and fight off raiders and monsters, but you're not sure if they're going to be enough to defend your kingdom against a full-on invasion by an actual army, let alone lead an invasion themselves. If you're going to fight a war, you're going to need more soldiers. Cost: 1000. Time: One Year. Reward: Warriors recruited, army expanded.
Quality over Quantity: It's one thing to have a large army, quite another to have a well-equipped one. With all the ore your mines have started to churn out, you can start equipping your troops with high-quality armor and weapons usually reserved for elite units. This will be expensive however, both to purchase, and to maintain. Cost: 500. Time: One Year. Reward: Better Equipment issued to Royal Army, Upkeep Costs Doubled.
The Cavalry is Coming: Duke Talonuelli doesn't want to just roll over for Brochard, but he can't fight him alone and everyone knows it. He's rallied his army, but that doesn't mean he won't surrender and spare the lives of his people if he sees no chance of victory. Send a fast courier before Wingbard is surrounded to let them know that help is on the way, and tell him to hold on until you get there. Cost: 100. Time: One Year. Reward: Talonuelli knows you are coming, will be less likely to surrender to Brochard. Chance of Success: 75%
Fungus Farming for Fun and Profit: Archimedes' theories were sound, now it's time to put them into practice. Fund the construction of several mushroom farms and start harvesting your new foodstuff! Cost: 200. Time: One Year. Reward: Mushroom Farms Constructed, Increased Farming Income.
Aquaculture: One of Archimedes' assistants has proposed a strange new idea. Why don't we just farm fish the same way we farm other foodstuffs? After being accused of Discordian sympathies he hastily clarifies that he did not mean to invoke the memory of the horrific squid-plant hybrids created by the mad trickster god, but something much more mundane: "corralling" fish in artificial lakes and ponds, feeding and harvesting them in a similar manner to other livestock. Well…you've heard of crazier ideas. Cost: 400. Time: Two Years. Reward: Fish Farms established. Will Finish This Turn
Noxious Nitrates: Archimedes has been experimenting with some of the minerals your miners have started digging up, seeing how they react chemically with other elements. He's found a way to make a sort of...explosive powder out of sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter. You're...kind of concerned about that last one, seeing as how it's extracted from feces of all things, but his practical demonstrations cannot be denied or ignored. But Archimedes has an issue: the difficulty in acquiring large amounts of the components needed to make this Fire-powder. He's going to need funds to construct sulfur mines and...saltpeter distilleries. Ewww. Cost: 500. Time: Two Years. Reward: Supply of Fire-Powder Acquired. Chance of Success: 75% Will Finish This Turn
Fluent in Treason: Brochard's taxation policies haven't been popular amongst his subjects. Should he fail to deliver a victory in Wingbardy and acquire it's fertile lands, he risks facing a revolt. Your spies are still present in Aquileia. Have them contact a few of the more openly resentful nobles and see if you can get the ball rolling on that whole "rebellion" thing, as well as lay the groundwork for a transfer of power once Brochard is out of the way. Cost: 400. Time: One Year. Reward: Increased chance of Revolt against Brochard, Less risk of opposition to your taking the throne. Chance of Success: 50%
Gabriella's Greatswords: Your wife spent much of the previous year calling in favors from old friends and acquaintances. Among them were several mercenary captains that agreed to offer their services at discounted rates should you choose to acquire their services. Time to take them up on their offers. Cost: Varies, depending on Choices. Time: One Year. Reward: Mercenary Hires Interlude
