Once we start paying they have a hold. Also the ones who determine succession are usually the one who dies (not an option) or some higher ranked noble. The higher rank noble would likely want larger and larger prices every time we do this and may eventually use it as leverage.
Alright, blackmail then. And altering wills ourselves.

Fair, but if a political incident occurs then the eney gets the first shot which can be vital.
True, but that first shot gets them stuck in the Crystal Protectorate. We have a nice big buffer zone between us, which means that if they mobilize their army we'll be able to find out before they actually get to any population centers, let alone Gryphus. Considering that their army isn't massively more powerful than ours, I think the best they can achieve even with a first strike is either a limited war where they try to take and hold the Crystal Protectorate or a proxy war against one of our allies.

..Of course we could always roll a nat 100 on the rescue op, which would make for a VERY interesting update :p
Garrick looked up with no small amount of concern as Ravenburg walked into Garrick's office looking completely flabbergasted.
"What happened? Is everything okay?" Garrick asked, reaching for his sword. Ravenburg never looked flabbergasted. He always looked fully composed, even when everything was on fire. In fact, the last time he had shown much of any real emotion had been shortly before Captain Kaboom's promotion... Uh oh. This smelled like paperwork. Mountains of paperwork.
"I'm here to report that the mission to rescue our citizens from Maretonia was a success. A complete and total success. SO MUCH success..." Ravenburg trailed off and Garrick almost could have sworn that the griff was fighting not to burst into hysterical laughter.
"Um. That's good?" Garrick replied, hoping that his intrigue advisor wasn't going to have a nervous breakdown. Ravenburg had been a pillar of calm ever since the start of Garrick's rule, but everyone had a breaking point.
"Do you know, I thought it would be a good idea to have a crystal pony as the agent in charge, thought it would give them the proper motivation to see the mission through to the end... I had no idea how right I was!" Ravenburg this time had to visibly restrain himself.
"What happened, exactly?" Garrick was becoming impatient.
"Our agents went to Maretonia, they rescued every single one of our people... and then they kept rescuing. Every slave who would go with them."
"Oh, wow. Okay, this is good, we can get in depth information on Maretonia, and we'll just deny any knowledge if Maretonia asks. How many did they rescue?" Garrick asked. Oh yeah, that's a mountain of paperwork, all right.
"At final count, somewhere on the order of fifty thousand slaves. I'm not sure how they did it, or whether there's even any slaves LEFT in Maretonia, but we now have thousands of refugees all being fawned over by the proud citizens of the Crystal Protectorate..." This time Ravenburg actually trailed off into hysterics as he delivered the end of his report.
"Wut." Was all the response that Garrick could summon up. This wasn't a mountain of paperwork. This was a freaking PLANET worth of paperwork. Oh dear...

Workable but also expensive to maintain.

EDIT: Just saw it wasnt a blockade. A bunch of teams who travel around killing any slavers is liable to make them get sneaky about it. Most likely they would start going after children as they are smaller and can be hidden in smaller spaces, disguising themselves as merchants, performers, or similar travelling groups to avoid detection.

If we do this we will need cooperation on all of their borders, some sophisticated anti smuggler techniques, a large number of people to do it, and the money to pay for it.
the goal isn't ending the slave raids, it's causing a massive price inflation. Slaving becomes a high risk job since kill teams will be hunting you constantly which in combination with how we would be reducing the slave population means that the price of the slaves they do have skyrockets.

It cripples their econmey and forces them to not work the slaves to death.

Alright, blackmail then

Possible, though can backfire and inspires resentment by the one being blackmailed.

And altering wills ourselves

They rarely used wills in medieval times. It was more of a thing of public knowledge and custom.

Hmmm. That might work, though it would take a bit of time to shift from full on chattel slavery to another form and the conditions would take many many years to be even mildly humane.

EDIT: It would also likely make slaves from our nations even greater status symbols than before possibly making this backfire.

Also if they attack us we could simply send our's and Neighpon's navy around, and have them attack from their coast while keep the enemy army pinned in the crystal protectorate.

We might want to consider finally starting to build the fortifications, depending on how the situation evolves this turn.

worth it.

Nah, lets fade away and do hit and runs on their supply line and burn anything they can use to resupply in their path.

Russia used this tactic on napoleon and ended up destroying an army almost 20 times their size.

We do this with our well equiped and mobile army and time it so they come in at the start or during winter and we can destroy them with almost no loss of life on our side and any army that reaches the capital would be greatly weakened and easy to destroy.

EDIT: And that isnt if they retreat or surrender first. And if we time it correctly we could do a counter invasion by sea and take down the empire while their army is bogged down in the crystal protectorate

I wanted to see if all available omake bonuses have been slotted to the risky actions, but instead found myself crawling through random debate, parts of which lost me quickly.

What is the situation in the bonus/action front?

Lisain put his two +20 on the rescue op, and there was at least another bonus (i think a +15? i could be wrong) to one of the other actions, though i don't remember which (though the only other actions with rolls are the canterbury monster hunter action and the libertalia action, so it's one of these two)

Not sure if there were any more bonuses

It's a +15 from me into the pirate action.

There are some that wanted to put some toward those, but they didnt @ QM, so yeah, that's about it.

I had some weird ideas some future events.

The first griffon, pony, and diamond dogs on the moon (meeting Luna there?)

The atomic bomb is dropped into tartarus or some similar big bad.

The industrial revolution truly takes off and we have to institute safety measures for the benefit of the workers.

The battle train is made (magitech train that lays its own tracks as it goes) and deployed against a big bad.

The first submarine is designed and we find the lost empire of Catlantis or something (Atlantis the lost empire expy?)

Some crazy mage makes living gargoyles to serve as gaurds and soldiers and we free them and they become a culture of gaurdians and defenders (alliance with the crystals?)

Magical Research Expo is run right next door to the Scientific Research Expo and shenanigans ensue from the rivalry.

Falconry while competing with the falcon becomes a fad and things get heated.

A pheonix flock stops by the empire. Our dragon daughter is struck in awe of their beauty.

Assorted issues such as Plagues of insects (magical?) Swarm through the land.

New diseases such as Stone Paw (effects griffons and dogs) which makes paws dry out and crack leading to bleeding and secondary infections and os caused by a fungus.

Chill Crack, a disease which effects crystal ponies and makes theit crystal more sensitive to cold and can cause cracks with sudden changes in temperature.

To the Left syndrome which effects all 3 races which makes the right side of the body mimic the left (sounds like a mlp type disease).

Courage Bane, it is named for it's effect of making those afflicted terrified of everything as it warps their perceptions. (Again, seems like a mlp disease)

Black Sweat. A disease originatally from neighpon it has made the jump to diamond dogs from kitsune. Still very rare due to the geographical boundary, but still able to spread.

There. Glad i got those ideas out of my head.

Are these... cats that... LIKE water?
Blasphemy!
Sounds like a very dangerous disease for these ponies living in a wintery place!
To the Left syndrome
More like Mirror Syndrome! But very interesting, is it neurological or magical in nature?
What does this do? Turns your sweat black? More viscous?

Love these ideas, very near-apocalyptic feels : D

You think they WANTED to end up underwater? It was a disaster for a reason.

Thick black sweat that dehydrates the infected to the point where they might die.

Sounds like a very dangerous disease for these ponies living in a wintery place!

Thats the point. Slow heating or cooling is fine but hopping into a hot bath or walking out of the warm house is dangerouse.

Why not both?

Eh, i assume most magical diseases came from the time of discord and i assume catlantis was destroyed (or sunk) by a tsunami of tartar sauce or something while he was in charge.

EDIT: I wonder if we might eventually find Princess Amore's frozen form in the Crystal Protectorate at some point? Sombra froze her in black crystal putting her in suspended animation but was unable to bring himself to kill her.... If we find her we might be able to free her. If we do she would be a powerful asset as she was Sombra's only equal in magic (If not greater than him in it) and the reason there was not an epic battle was due to her kind nature and her not being willing to strike him down as she could still see the good in him... What little there was.

But anyway, she should still be in the castle somewhere, frozen in a crystal sleep. Personally I suspect Sombra built either a kind of shrine/grave/memorial for her somewhere (She was one of the few people loved) or he hid her away as deep as he could to further separate who he was from what he became.

Oh wonderful, people that keep up their ignorance how to use omake bonuses

BTW, I hate the new smilies.

Oddly whenever I put forward my bonuses what usually occurs is that the votes shift so that the option I specified the bonus to be used for no longer is the option chosen.

If it's not too late @Questor please apply my +15 for the Crystal Matrix to the Trollslayers action

Terribly sorry I didn't see these Omakes earlier. Work and family obligations have kept me busy as all get out these last few days, so the next update is going to take a bit longer than the others.

To the authors of the below omakes, please let me know if you'd like their bonuses applied to any roll in particular!

A Treatise On Imperial Military Dogma Going Forward

Authors: Tree S, Lock B, Taurus P, Plaws

This paper shall look at the capabilities of both the army of Gryphonia and their potential enemy, Maretonia, and examine the implications of these capabilities on Gryphonian military strategy in the near future.

Gryphonia's natural advantage over most foes is flight. In the past, Gryphonia's armies have made great use of fixed fortifications and defensive formations. This goes back as far as the Unification War against Brochard, but is most notable in the Winter War against Sombra. During these wars, relatively little thought was put into 3 dimensional maneuvering. Sombra's forces were primarily ground based and his magic prevented flight from playing a major role in the war, and while both Gryphonia and Brochard deployed aerial troop formations against each other they largely canceled each other out. It is worth noting that when Sombra deployed air assets against the Gryphonian walls uncontested by Gryphonian air assets, they reached the top of the walls quickly and with minimal casualties. This feat is something that none of the rest of Sombra's army managed, not even Sombra himself. This provides an example of why claiming air superiority is of utmost importance to the armies of Gryphonia going forward. Gryphonia can achieve this by deploying troops to take control of the air above the battlefield, as well as designating large numbers of archers to act as anti-air troops by firing on any flyers from the enemy lines. More theoretical forms of anti-air would be using grape shot from cannons (Plaws, 13 AD), or spreading smoke throughout the air in order to make flying too difficult for anyone to gain aerial superiority (Lock, 19). There has even been a proposal to use fireworks to spread confusion during enemy nighttime air raids, with the intention of blinding and deafening enemies (Taurus, 21 AD). Even if there are no direct hits, being blinded while flying can often prove disastrous to air forces, especially if they are flying in tight formation.
There is also a proposal to create small artillery, known as mortars, which would be designed to fire upwards over opposing fortifications. If created, these could potentially be adapted for use as anti-air by loading them with nets or explosives designed to explode in air (Taurus et al, 22 AD).
These methods show promise, but should be carefully considered and tested before use in battle, as they have not been used for this purpose in battle before. The benefits of claiming air superiority are quite numerous and include allowing Gryphonian air forces to be able to drop fletchets, explosives, and other deadly weapons upon their foes. Furthermore, air superiority makes it possible for flying troops to quickly travel to whichever section of the battlefield they are needed and insert themselves behind enemy units or blocking off routes that enemies would take to retreat or attack. It also would make them able to directly attack enemy commanders and supply lines which would normally be kept far behind the opposing lines, as well as strategic assets such as artillery and mages. Of course, perhaps the most important benefit of air superiority is in preventing the enemy from doing much the same to Gryphonia's army itself.
Another advantage that Gryphonia possesses are the Diamond Dogs. While no Diamond Dog soldiers were yet present during the Unification War, these troops were invaluable during the Winter War, and they will likely continue to be invaluable going forward. The unparalleled ability of Diamond Dogs to dig through the earth is an advantage that no other country is known to be in possession of, and makes them excellent spies, saboteurs, and guerrilla fighters. Diamond Dogs were instrumental in the final battle of the Winter War, their tunneling allowing Gryphonia to send a strike force into the heart of Sombra's lair and free the Crystal Heart.
Although the contributions of the Diamond Dogs to the Winter War are too numerous to list here and are beyond the scope of this paper, a mention must be made of one incident in particular, involving a Diamond Dog agent known as Captain Carl "Kaboom."
Before the final battle of the Winter War, in an effort to attack Sombra's war economy and reduce his army's readiness to fight, Emperor Garrick authorized a sabotage campaign against Sombra's chief mining facilities. Captain Kaboom was one of several Diamond Dogs sent on this mission, and was chosen due to his mining background and his expertise with explosives.
During the course of the mission, Captain Carl singlehandedly destroyed over 90% of the enemy mining capacity, causing an estimated 100,000 casualties among potential enemy combatants.
This incident, while extreme, shows the benefits of having both explosives and the ability to tunnel.
The ability to tunnel has been used to great extent already in the Gryphonian military, and will likely continue to be used in both offensive and defensive roles. More theoretical uses of tunneling include using it as an alternative to flight when air superiority cannot be attained or weather conditions are unfavorable. As shown in the final battle of the Winter War, tunneling has the ability to deliver both troops and explosives to an area behind enemy lines, to devastating effect.

In contrast to Gryphonia, a large portion of Maretonia's military is incapable of flight, and none can tunnel. Rather, Maretonia's advantages lie in the ability to manipulate the weather and use magic.
As described in Ironclaw et al (18 AD), weather manipulation is an incredibly useful ability for an army. It was one of Sombra's key advantages during the Winter War, and was an important reason for how small of a role flight played in that war. Maretonian weather control may be less powerful than Sombra's, but it is also much more flexible. While Sombra only seems to have been capable of creating blizzards, Maretonia is capable of many different types of weather. Potential uses for weather control are many in number, and include making cool yet dry weather where their army marches, preventing them from being bogged down by mud or getting heatstroke. Weather control could furthermore be useful for causing it to rain in specific areas as a way to secure enough water for their army, or making thunderstorms over opposing armies in order to bog them down in mud and occasionally lose soldiers to lightning strikes. From an aerial perspective, creating high winds, thunderstorms, and potentially even tornadoes or hurricanes would make it difficult or even impossible to fly or use ranged attacks, preventing Gryphonia from seizing air superiority (although likely preventing Maretonia from benefiting from it either). While on offense, weather control could create banks of fog in order to give their ground forces cover from opposing artillery, magic, and air forces. Fortunately, it seems likely that Maretonia requires airborne troops in an area in order to affect the weather there. This means that establishing air superiority should be a viable way to prevent weather manipulations, making it an even greater necessity than usual in the event of a Gryphonia/Maretonia war.
Magic is currently an unknown quantity. As shown by Sombra in the Winter War it is potentially devastatingly useful, yet it is presently unknown what the capabilities of Maretonian battle mages are. It is known however, that Maretonia has a smaller number of battle mages than other troops, and it seems likely that they will protect these troops well by keeping them behind their lines, where they will use ranged magic to affect the battle. If this is the case, this makes Gryphonia's ability to fly and dig even more important, as troops can fly over enemy lines or tunnel under them in order to engage battle mages in close combat. This is likely to provide an advantage against the mages by putting more pressure on them and preventing them from focusing on the battle as a whole.
Close range combat should be especially advantageous for Gryphonian forces with the new Orichalcum or Black Steel blades.

Yet another advantage that Gryphonia possesses is cannons. These weapons are capable of doing massive damage from a large distance, and can be equipped with grape shot for use against infantry in close range. They were used to great effect during the Winter War, and have recently been incorporated into a new class of warship known as carracks. This new class of ship, combined with the navy of Gryphonia's ally, Neighpon, means that the Gryphonia-Neighpon alliance has a stronger navy than any other known country. However, as has been noted previously (Argus, 19 AD), ships with big weapons are (counterintuitively) not the end all be all of naval warfare. Air superiority will be just as vital over water as it is on land, if not more so. Maretonian weather magic will be shockingly deadly against ships if successfully brought to bear. Just as natural storms can sink even the most powerful of ships, artificial ones will be fully capable of sinking entire fleets if given the chance to build up. Therefore it is imperative that Gryphonia gain and hold air superiority in any and every naval engagement it participates in against Maretonia or similar nations. As an added reason, griffins in flight are much faster than ships, and using explosives and flammable liquids they can do large amounts of damage to enemy naval vessels if given the chance. In a potential war with Maretonia, if Gryphonia and Neighpon can achieve naval dominance they could potentially bombard Maretonia's coastline, or even land troops on Maretonia's shores, forcing Maretonia to fight a two front war. Either of these actions would be aided by griffin air forces, either by dropping explosives and incendiary weaponry or by flying further inland and occupying strategic positions such as bridges, crossroads, and hilltops.
The proposed mortars would be very useful for occupying hilltops and crossroads, due to their small size allowing them to be broken down and transported by air.
Of course any military analysis would be inadequate without mentioning the terrain where fighting is most likely to occur. The Crystal Protectorate lies between Gryphonia and Maretonia, providing a buffer between Maretonian invaders and the Gryphonian heartland. It is here that any large scale land battle is most likely to take place. A sizable portion of Gryphonia's military minds believe that the best course of action is to build large scale fortifications at the southern border of the Crystal Protectorate, much like what was done during the Winter War. This has the advantage of stopping any Maretonian invasion before it reaches the Crystal City or the Gryphonian heartland. However, giving an enemy who controls the weather a fixed target may allow them to build up large scale storms with which to batter the defenders and deny air support. The Maretonian army is not likely to throw itself upon Gryphonia's defenses like Sombra during the Winter War. They will likely instead attempt to go around through either the ocean or through Canterbury. Failing that, they may simply resort to hitting Gryphonia or its allies with inclement weather, reminiscent of the blizzards which the Winter War was named for. Gryphonia's other option is to allow the Maretonian army to enter the unforgiving wasteland of the Crystal Protectorate, and use guerrilla tactics to harass and delay them, bleeding them out before they can ever get to a conventional large scale battle. This could be done by having small units bait the Maretonian army ever farther into the wasteland to provoke them into marching too long without resting. Small units from the Gryphonian army would then use hit and run tactics (which could be part of the bait used to draw the Maretonian army further into the wasteland), ambushes, and traps such as pitfalls and explosive mines. Tanuki and Kitsune soldiers from Neighpon could use illusions to help trick the Maretonians into wandering around in circles or splitting their army up enough for individual groups to be overwhelmed by multiple small Gryphonian units. Once the Maretonians are drawn far enough into the wasteland, the Gryphonian army could cut off their supply line. With help from Crystal Pony scouts, Gryphonia's troops would know the terrain better than Maretonia's, and are much less likely to run out of supplies thanks to the railway being built between Gryphonia and the Crystal City. The Gryphonian army would be able to use the Crystal City as a base of operations during the campaign, which would allow them to be rested for the final confrontation and would probably give a short boost to the Crystal Protectorate economy thanks to soldiers wandering around and spending their pay during breaks.
A new top secret research project designed to find a way to preserve food in easily transportable containers could further shore up the Gryphonian supply line and give Gryphonian forces a massive advantage over the Maretonians
Once the Maretonian army was sufficiently exhausted, they could be surrounded and forced to surrender by the main bulk of the Gryphonian army. Unlike Sombra, Maretonia is not capable of compelling their soldiers to fight to the death. Surrender is perfectly possible and even likely by end of such trials as the Maretonian army would experience during such a campaign. The option of letting the Maretonians exhaust themselves in the wastelands has the benefit of keeping more Gryphonian soldiers alive, since if everything goes well the Maretonians will surrender without even having come into direct conflict with the bulk of the Gryphonian military. It has the downside that if things go poorly the Maretonian military may find itself at the gates of the Crystal City, and a siege may still take place, but with civilians far closer to the front lines than if Gryphonia had held the line at the border.
Going forward, Gryphonia's military leaders need to focus on several things. Air superiority is by far the most important principle. It absolutely must be achieved by the Gryphonian military, especially in naval combat, if Gryphonia is to win a given battle. Gryphonian commanders will surely continue to heavily utilize the tunneling abilities of the Diamond Dogs, and should also begin authorizing them for hit and run attacks on strategic assets, especially if air superiority is not immediately gained. Gryphonian commanders should take note of the positions of enemy mages on the battlefield, and take them out before they can be used to their full effect. To aid in this, it is recommended that Gryphonia divert intelligence assets into discovering the exact capabilities and numbers of Maretonian battle mages. Finally, Gryphonian military commanders should look into the possibility of using the wasteland of the Crystal Protectorate itself as a weapon against Maretonia, exhausting them with guerrilla warfare instead of holding a fixed position at the border.

A Day at the Market
" - moving before I cut off your ears and make you eat them, Worms. Now!! Off my Wagon!!"

"Move, Friends. This one thinks they are no joking." said Crush, as the prisoners moved out of the wagons that brought them to this horrible place. Garland Goldmane jolted back to reality as the Diamond Dog places a paw on his shoulder. He nodded in thanks and followed the tide of slaves out of the covered wagon, Crush following close behind.

Garlend squinted as his eyes got used to the light again after being in the dark for so long. Having been in a covered, caged wagon for what seemed like weeks, he yearned to stretch his wings to fly and soar, to get as far away as he could, but the Twice damned Sombra Shaggers had bounds his wings witha length of rope, probably having learned their lessons from other Gryphons. To his right he saw the filly Dusty Breeze huddle closer to her father, pressing her muzzle into his side and whimpering in fear. The broken stump where her horn had once been fizzled slightly.

He wanted to comfort her, to do anything thing that might ease her fear, and he saw that the stallion had wanted to do so as well, for the pony leaned down and whispered a few words to the little filly, before a Slaver cracked a glowing whip above his head, a spark exploded into the air. Behind him, he heard the Diamond Dog growl as another Slaver Pony prodded him into his place, before they turned to Garland and gestured threateningly with a sword in his mouth, evidently trying to get him in line.

Garland wanted to protest, to scream and rail against the bastard ponies, to use his claws to rip them to pieces. How dare they enslaved citizens of the Emperor of Griffonia! But he heard what defiance has earned those that tried, and judging from Gawds swollen eye and the limp from her back legs, it wasn't pretty. So he swallowed his response, and moved into the place he was gestured to. Then a pair of chains and manacles floated in front of him, and bound his front and back legs. Then the lead Slaver called out, and the column of spaces were herded forward, headed towards the city in the distance.

Garland wondered why they were walking there, but as he got closer, he saw massive pens and other wooden structures in the outskirts of the walls, and other slaves being led inside, along with a large market place near the structures. The lead Slaver shouted, encouraging them the other Slavers to push their cargo forward. " Come on you Bastards," shouted the small Unicorn at the back, cracking his whip above a Diamond Dogs head, who snarled and bared her teeth, but was whipped again until she kept moving. "It's Market Day! We need to get their before all the Nobles have gone!"

—-

Mornings Glory fanned herself in the afternoons heat, sighing as the noonday sun bore down on the Slave Market. It was a slow day, with no real catches on sale so far, and she just wanted to go home. But her brother wanted new slaves, and new slaves he would get.

Beside her, her nephew jumped up and down, trying to see the stage as the group of Slaves were sold to an elder stallion and owner of Marecapuas many brothels, who smiled gleefully as the group, mostly mares and a few fillies, were loaded in carts, some sniffling or openly crying. He paid the head Slaver, and trotted over to his palanquin, where four Earthpony stallions waited.

"Thank you, Noble Citizen. Now, on to the next batch of products. We have with us today, a truly exceptional bunch of cargo, taken off the Coast of Libertalia!" Some in the crown perked up, though many were like Morning Glory, and simple rolled their eyes.

Every Slaver said their Slaves were exceptional, and fine products, at least until they broke on their first few weeks. Just last week, her brothers newest slaves for his mines had been found impaled upon their pickaxes. So inconsiderate!! They could have at least waited until next week.

Indeed, as the new group got up on the stage, the same bunch of miserable looking ponies and children as before, she felt her interest wane even more. It looked like her brother was going to be more disappointed with this batch as he had with the last. Then her nephew gasped, and tugged at her hoof. She looked back at the stage, and gasped.

Griffons. Lots of Griffons. And Diamond Dogs as well!! She could feel the excitement in the air as the crowd whispered and talked excitedly. Looks like today would be interesting after all! Ponies where one thing, but Griffons! Oh the prestige! She heard some worried murmurs from a few near here, mentions of 'Griffonia' and 'reprisals' or some such nonsense. Honestly, who would care about a few peasants? Such ridiculous talk!

The bidding began, and many went home with
shiny new slaves, eager to show off their new products. After all, what's the worse that could happen?

Hardwood smiled as the group of mares and filles cried in joy as his girls fed and washed them, the recently freed slaves Probably having resigned themselves to a life of brutality and abuse.

Who would have guessed that Reddish Hardwood, one of Maretonia's leading brothel owners, was an abolitionist?

He frowned then, moving away from the joyful group, and moved towards his study. He needed to contact the Lady about the new group of slaves that had arrived. Such a large Griffons enslaved were a troubling prospect, especially with news of Sombras defeat, and an Empire rising to the north. Maybe they would find some allies in this 'Griffonia.'

AN: well, we all know how all this went down, don't we? This takes place I believe before the Maretonia crisis, and Maretonia poked the bear. @Questor, take this madness.

Edit: Forgot to add part.

Edit 2: there we go. Probably non canon but eh.

+10 to a roll!

Terribly sorry I didn't see these Omakes earlier. Work and family obligations have kept me busy as all get out these last few days, so the next update is going to take a bit longer than the others.

To the authors of the below omakes, please let me know if you'd like their bonuses applied to any roll in particular!

+10 to a roll!
It may be applied to any that need it. I have no real preference.

Whooo! Thanks!
I think I would prefer keep this one in reserve for the next war, or at least some military action.

So i have found 2 potential ways the nightmare moon situation might end.

She originally became nightmare moon due to never getting the appreciation she deserved after all.

Here are the two outcomes (in music and video format)

And what I hope to be the good ending.

In the first she becomes nightmare moon.

The second we help her establish the Colony of the Night, where orphaned foals are brought to a place where she care for them. They are raised knowing the beauty of the night and being strangely nocturnal, shunning the sun and day and playing beneath the pale moon light.

EDIT: We may end up having to go under Celestia's nose for it but I like the idea of the Children of the Night being a thing

Omake: Dark Clouds, Dark Things (Non-Canon)
DARK CLOUDS, DARK THINGS

Its getin a bit chilly Reynard thought as he stood at his post near one of the villages entrances.

You see, Reynard was a militiaman for his village, having been called up along side many others by his Lord to protect the village from the increased monster attacks. Which in themselves was rather odd, as the monsters tended to be further in the forest and avoiding the village ever since a Grail knight showed up a decade back and took care of some of the more nastier ones.

He breathed out and watched as his breath misted in some astonishment. It was mid summer Lady's sake! It shouldn't be this cold! But it was cold, far colder than it should have been, and it all started when old Banny spotted some dark clouds on the horizon some weeks ago. Not long after they were spotted the Lord started raising some of his levies-of which Reynard was one- and not soon after that the monsters started leaving the woods in a right frenzy.

Reynard figured them clouds had somethin to do with it.

"Hey Reynard! Hey! Heeeeyyyy!"

Reynard let out a small sigh before he turned his gaze from the woods to the little filly bouncing towards him. It was little Sunny named for her bright white coat and orange and yellow hair. She certianly lived up to her name as well, given how excitable she usually was, and while Reynard knew he should be focusing on the woods he couldn't help but turn to her and give her a small smile.

"Sunny." He said trying-and somewhat succeeding- at making his voice sound like and avalanche

Sunny giggled and briefly put one of her hooves to her mouth to contain her laughter. "Y-You sound so silly!" she said as she broke down laughing.

Reynard gave a mighty glare(pout) towards the young Sunny, which only caused her to laugh harder.

Neither of them noticed that it was now snowing.

Reynard pushed up his kettle helmet to get a better look at Sunny and adjusted his spear with his brown furred hoof into a more comfortable position. "What do ya need Sunny?" he asked feeling like hes been laughed at quite enough thank you very much! "Just wanted to see what you were doing!" Sunny cheerfully replied.

"Doing my duty to the Lord and the Lady." Reynard said much more seriously this time, as ones duty to the Lady was never a laughing matter. Even young Sunny knew this, so she didn't laugh when he replied in that oh so serious tone.

Sunnys smile left her face as she stared out at the woods, she bit her lip nervously before asking Reynard "D-Do...Do you think the monsters will get us?" She shyly asked. Which was a sharp change to how she usually was.

Reynards answer was immediate and firm "No. No they won't Sunny, because i wont let them. Neither will the Lady, or the Lord." He shifted so that he could look Sunny in the eye. "I'll protect you Sunny, you have my word on that."

Sunny gave him a small smile and the shadows in her eyes disappeared. "I know that! Your're the bestes their ever was!" She proudly proclaimed and Reynard gave a rueful chuckle. "I don't know about tha-"

Crack

It echoed through the woods and reached the village, It was sound Reynard Very much didn't want to hear. For it was the sound of a branch being stepped on, and that meant a monster was coming out of the wood.

"Sunny." Reynard said, a steel in his voice that Sunny has never heard before. "Find your mother, Now."

Sunny gave a wide eyed nod before running back into the village past several of the other Militia, who heard the same thing Reynard heard. They gathered up beside him, most of them had spears like Reynard but one of them, Jenny, had a crossbow.

She died first.

It came out of the shadowy woods with a Twang and buried itself in Jennys throat. And as she went down with a gurgle the rest of them saw what it was.

A crossbow bolt.

"Back!" Reynard the first to shake himself out of the shocked stupor of seeing someone you knew die. "Back behind the walls!" The 'walls' themselves where no more than crude palisades set up as both cover from some of the more nasty monsters as well as to reassure to villagers-and Militia- that they were being protected and taken into consideration.

As they all scuttled behind them Reynard looked over his shoulder and saw a mass of glowing green eyes within the woods, and following them he could make out the bodies. Most where skin and bones with nothing but some strange helmet on. The other however were wearing actual armor, stuff that looked much better than Reynards own somewhat tattered gambeson. They wore the same strange helmets but they also held actual weaponry as well.

For one, they all held crossbows. They also had swords strapped to their sides. That was all he saw before a bolt whizzing by encouraged him to pull his head back. What he saw heartened him somewhat, as he saw the dozens other militia rushing toward them and he thought that they may actually be able to win against these strange brigands.

Then one of the skinny ones rushed past the palisade and the fight was on.

The Skinny ones charged straight into the hastily assembled spear line, most of them impaled themselves on the spears and they mostly plowed into the Militia or rolled past them as several of the smart ones let go of their spears and dogged out of the way. The skinny ones that survived the initial charge immediately started headbutting and kicking the confused Militia and Reynard saw that the Militia was starting to break.

Not if he had anything to say about it.

Giving a might yell Reynard charged towards the chaotic melee and soon heard the yells of the others he was hiding behind the palisade with. They smashed into the melee, them being overall bigger then the skin and bones ponies bowled aside any they hit. And Reynard managed to dig his spear all the way through one of them.

After what felt like hours but was only a minute at most the Militia killed the rest of the skinny ones(who for strange and bizzare reasons that Reynard didn't understand didn't make any noise as they fought and died. None of them tried to run or surrender. They just...fought.) and Reynard looked around. Out of the 20 militia in the village it looked like only 6 were in any shape to fight. Reynard felt as if he was missing something.

Then he felt something hit him and he tried to say something to the others. Then he paused confused because he couldn't. He looked around, seeing his fellows either looking at him or something beyond him. And he saw past his fellows to the villagers desperately try to gather their things and run, or just running.

Then he saw Sunny, standing there as still as a statue with what his dazed mind though were tears. He tried to call out to her, for her to run. But he couldn't say anything, something was in the way.

Then a second bolt hit him in the head and jutted out through one of his eyes and his last sight was poor little Sunny.

Sunny cried in earnest now, and tried to run towards Reynard before she was caught by her mother and was put on her back. She babbled incoherently and her last site of her home for so long was it being set alite by the monsters from the woods. She saw a whole army of them, now visible coming down the road.

And her last sight before she passed out from all the stress was of one monster who wasn't wearing a helmet, his back to the rolling storm. What Sunny didn't know was that he was a King, and that his name was Sombra. What she did know was this.

Evil had come to Canterbury.
