Know, all things told and looking at this, Sombra is a pretty impressive magic researcher, especially pointing out that he's the only researcher of any kind in his kingdom. It's a shame that he is gone full Sorcereous Overlord of mind whammed kingdom. Would be much more difficult for us if he had some at least semi-loyal support staff under him, people taking some of the his everyday burden and just covering his glaring weakness. Like military side, because holy shit, he's bad at this, burying the enemy with bodies is the most unimaginative tactical move there is

Except it worked on everybody he has fought but us. We aren't his first conquest he stomped everyone that he came across until our explorers found him.

Yet we beat his overwhelming forces two times with some fortification and technological edge. Hell, in second battle, he could've just looked at our fortress and just go some other way, around it, all he would've lost is time, but no, he'd gone full Stalingrad on us. Hell, with his mind control he has so much micromanaging that other commanders could only dream for, plus the whole 'no morale' thing

I doubt he even done any sort of recon, guy had flying units, for good sake. And he used them by throwing them head first on pikes

Didn't say he was smart or knew how to lead a military. I said his strategy worked on everybody else before he met us.

Do we have TIME to open the vault? Shouldn´t we kill Sombra with all due hast, so that our army isn´t diminished further or he has time to prepare some magic bullshit?

[X] Safe-Cracking: Whatever is in that vault is valuable to Sombra, and thus valuable to you. Have your troops assume defensive positions while you try and figure out a way to get it open.

I am hesitant to base our decision on out-of-character knowledge from the show. For all we know the vault holds his collection of stuffed animals that he doesnt want anyone to see. I think we've got this in hand with the forces we've got already.

[X] Press Forward: You can try to crack open the Vault later. Right now you've got a Mad King to kill. Gather up your soldiers and head up the stairs before Sombra can rally a defense.

IC we already know about a powerful artifact and if it is Crystal Heart it may be key to stopping any failsafe in case of Sombras death and saving Crystal ponies.

We know IC that there is something down here that Sombra fears.

How many want to bet that Sombra thinks Hardbeak is the Emperor? After all getting beat twice, in mere moments, by the same Griffon, has got to have left the impression that this guy is the most powerful and thus the most important.

Vault: *exists*
Sombra: Please god no don't open it please-
Players: Man, content's of that vault are probably amazing.
Garrick: *opens vault*

If we had even a single cannon with us to bombard first the gargoyle (because it'll obviously come alive and attack) and then the wall next ot the door (villains always seem to forget that option) I'd vote to get the Crystal heart. As it is, we lack anything to shatter them.

@Questor:
[X]Trojan Awe Amended
[...] we send our demolition team (to destroy/ sever Sombra's link to the Phylactory or failing that to his crystal core computer in-charge of enslaving his army)
[X]Use Diamond Dogs coupled with remaining illusionists to burrow into castle catacombs during main offence and attack from multiple angles or sabotage/ scouting
Does this mean that the demolition team is amongst the 1485 Diamond Dogs we have down here?

Hmm

I wonder, should we instead divide our forces and have the largest part of them continue onward to go upwards? Either they get to Sombra, or he focuses on them and doesn't realize there are some left poking the vault?

You have some dogs with some explosives, yes. But it's only what they can carry, they aren't dragging barrelfuls of explosives along with them.

Like I said it is either something we can use, something that will pull Sombra away from the top or something that needs to be destroryed anyways.

We are not acting on out of character knowledge. We have known for years that there is something in the catacombs that Sombra fears. We aren't using anything from the show since that isn't applicable here at all. Whatever is hidden down here will be useful one way or the other. If it is the Heart we can use it to finish Sombra for good since he is in such a weakened state. If it is a person then we get someone who Sombra can't kill.

That's right, I completely forgot about learning that in character. I still think we should be pushing for the throne room. From the gargoyle outside the vault it looks like there could be a mini boss. The more rolls we make, the greater the chance of something going wrong. Also, our army is fighting and dying so speed is of the essence.

The Army was meant to fight and die that is their duty and they joined knowing they would likely die. Also the only reason there was to send both the Empress and the Emperor down here instead of staying up top to run the battle was to control the outcome so we could get whatever was hidden down in the Catacombs. If we leave without getting it and go into a fight we wasted our time and put ourselves into huge danger for nothing.
