United Europe sounds even better! Think of all the trade we can manipulate! WE should also beware not to become the battleground for some world war or another similar type of conflict.
There is a reason united Europe never happened though, it was plain impossible to take over any one place for a long period of time before they fought back.

Interesting to see the Yaks live nearby as they are right now, I think we could try to entice some tribes to migrate to the Empire by all accounts I'd say that our lands are a paradise for the Yaks all things considered. We've got plenty of resources, large monsters ready for them to fight as I bet they are all in that glory before death type. Course it depends on what type of tribes we encounter, be really cool to see what might be living in that culture.

That said building some passport passes and fortresses as a bulwark just in case would be a great idea for the west.

We can possibly have a relationship with (some of) the Yaks like Russia had with the Cossacks. Maybe. Depends on what else we find out about them and what we can do in response.

I think the Empire of Gryphus is more akin to the Holy Roman Empire.
I thought of the gryphons as more like Dwarf Fortress Dwarves, and Diamond Dogs like when goblins assimilate into Dwarven culture.

The HRE fits a tiny bit, as we are not grimdark enough for the Empire of Man.
The HRE got less decentralized as time went on I think, unless I am wronh, but we should avoid that so we avoid fragmentation.

We might just be unique as this is not humans, or we are like Byzantium.

All the more reason to research cannons now.
Explosive and incendiary arrows for our ballistas would be cheaper to do, and do well enough against under-armed - and Flammable! - opponents. Set the first raiding clan on fire and second will not follow, doubly so if we keep trade an option for them. Plus stuff like caltrops, which would massively slow them down while we can largely ignore it. Plus we have a massive vantage point advantage if we keep some watchtowers in the Black Cliffs.

honestly I feel it would be best just to put up a few fortifications on the mountain boarder or at least a few watchtowers to keep an eye on them then focus elsewhere until we can learn more about them and their land. If we find out they got things worth trading for we set up a trade route, we find out they're hostile dicks then we prepare our army, we find out they have nothing of interest we politely ignore them.

I mean I want to know who's to the south of us and to the east to get a clear picture of who all our neighbors are before deciding who to should focus on. I mean if we find out that one of out neighbors recently got conquered by a necromancer and their is now a massive fuck off army next to us that's only goal is to end all life on the planet I'd really rather focus on that then some yaks truth be told.

The next move is South. After that we may send ships east. The main option I am hoping for is to claim the lands between ourselves and our neighbors. To the west the area before the steppes is the same as our current territory so we can easily settle there. We already build forts as towns and cities so they will be safe. The expansion of the Imperial Army will allow us to garrison the boarder lands as well. To the south will be warmer climates so we would do fine and take the land between our neighbors and ourselves. These two new regions will take time grow but once they are fully established we can build a Knight Order for them. It is unlikely that we will find any truly dangerous civilizations at this time. Most are still dealing with the aftermath of Discord.

How long do the yaks, Qilin, zebras, sea ponies, changelings, elephants, pegasi, ponies, unicorns, and centaurs live in this world?

Unless otherwise specified, assume they live roughly as long as humans.

Dragons are of course the exception to that rule. And since the Qilin are descended from Dragons, they've inherited a bit of that longevity, enough that they reliably live to 140 or so.

do Diamond Dogs have any kind of magic other than their digging abilities @Questor ? Maybe some kind of gem based magic, or maybe communal magic used only in group rituals?

This was actually touched on in an earlier post when the Dogs were first integrated. As far as you know, none of the Dogs in your Empire have any sort of magic. The Dogs tell stories of Alphas that could see through walls, conjure flames, and do all other kinds of supernatural feats, but as far as you can tell that's all they are: stories.

So next turn we should take the get swole action. That along with any action needed for our new dragon daughter should hopefully settle our family pretty well. The get Swole action if we roll well should maybe get us another child as well.

As for the Diamond Dog magic if it is real it will probably be a generation or two before they grow large enough number wise by not all dying off all the time before we notice more magic users.

I'm pretty sure Equestria will not approve of that tbh.
Equestria is not really that strong right now. They have the two alicorn princesses, and that's it. Discord probably hit them harder than most too.
They already lost the pillars of harmony (should actually have happened BEFORE discord, if i remember the timeline right), and the elements of harmony probably wouldn't work against magicless not-possessed gryphons.

...Actually, i hope we find the crystal empire next time we explore. Right now Sombra should not exist yet, and Princess Amore (or whoever rules there in this quest's headcanon) would be a good trading partner and (possibly) ally.

we find out they're hostile dicks then we prepare our army,
let's be honest, we'll prepare our army anyway "just in case". We don't have the magical deus ex machina/macguffin after all.

And it comes in handy against all the monsters of our land anyway.

right, i forgot :p.

Now the question is: Were they the alpha because they had magic (and were, thus, stronger), or did they have magic BECAUSE they were alpha?

I find the idea of dogs gaining magical powers from their position of leadership (or, to be more precise, by being recognised as such by the other members of their packs) an interesting possibility.

Or, sadly more likely, those are simply stories and there is no such thing as a magic dog in this world...

We'll see what happens in a few generations i suppose.
