Magellan class was a battleship and later has MS strapped to them to make them carriers, so I'm going with

[] Plan: White Base

[] Battleship (Main Battery slots 5, Secondary slots 5, Auxiliary slots 4)

Main Battery (options can be picked more than once)
[] Super-heavy (cost 2) X2
[] Medium (cost 0.5) X2

Secondaries
[] Light (cost 1)
[] Missile (cost 1)
[] Anti-MS guns (cost 1) X2
[] Anti-Air guns (cost 0.5) X2

Auxiliary
[] Hanger (cost 2) X2

Two super heavy weapons over 2 hangers, Light weapon on main body flanked by 2 medium weapons. Anti weapons on the port and star port for decent defensive field and missles pointed to the rear

I know basically white base was an assault carrier, but I wanted the extra guns. I name this class oberth

The Salamis can at least function as an over sized destroyer.
And the Magellan can serve as a cruiser/ battleship until we choose to replace it.

We don't have a carrier class, we should be making a ship for that, not replacing ships that are still more than capable of serving roles in combat.

We shouldn't be forced to replace it without voting if we want to first.

You can, and the Magellans aren't just gonna disappear, it's like when the U.S. Navy phased out the battleship. It didn't happen all at once.

It's fine, battleships are useless anyway, we don't need any of them. Although as others said, why we're replacing the Magellan instead of the Salamis is somewhat beyond me.

[] Trafalgar-class
-[] Assault Carrier
-[] Primaries: Ultra-Heavy
-[] Secondaries: Anti-MS x3, AA x2
-[] Auxiliaries: Hangar x2

The rationale is simple. Big gun to take down any enemy superheavies, such as the Gwazine or Dolos, CIWS to screen itself, and then triple hangars so it can fart out MS, which are extremely effective at eliminating medium weight vessels.

The idea is to force enemies to resort to bullets and missiles when fighting near the carriers while being swarmed with a lot of MS, while being flooded with even more AA and missiles.
Edit: I now support new battleship as we are replacing the existing battleship with this vote.

I like this more than another battleship right now though. We need a carrier now, we can make a new battleship next turn since the Magellan will be phased out slowly.

The way i see it is we can keep the Columbus-class (aka flying space box) as source of MS while we readjust the entire fleet. Next turn we start producing all the new MS designs and produce a class of ship for low cost carrier. Fleet battle is necessary now that i remember a bit more about Marcross.

@manofjay

What's difference between AA and Anti-MS?
How many MS can be support from 1 hanger?
How many action next turn is needed to start producing new MS design? 1 Design = 1 action?

Ooh nice, this is exactly what I was thinking of for a flagship carrier :D

AA is "traditional" Anti-Air, Anti-MS is a small beam gun with a slower rate of fire but higher kill chance.
Currently 5.
Refits, like with the Zaku, occur immediately, new production, like the Zudah, cost an action.

To the Aviation Battleship! There is no way this could go wrong!

Of course not, it's not like we don't fire spaceship into space from earth. Allowing the battleships to fly between atmosphere is the next logical step. Never mind modern air power and ground based missile system tend to discourage that idea, we have the Minovsky field to prevent long range lock-on.

[X] Plan Just Carrier

I'll build a new white base when we get more tech out of the alien ship

A question. Do we really need anything other than missiles on a pure carrier?

I mean... it's a carrier. If its escort and/or MS compliment goes down, it's hosed in direct combat regardless of how many piddly guns we strap to it. So why not gear it for long-range fire support so that it can stick to the rear of the formation?

MS screening does not always prevent breakthrough, be it missiles or other spacecrafts. So yes we do need AA to support the screen.
It is also nice for the working mechanic and resting pilots to know they are protected in the carriers. And when we need to push the line.
