[X] Plan Redshirt v3

Edit:

[X] Plan Slacking with Shrooms

I'd rather still do some Loremaster action, even if it's just saving one AP for the next guy, but it doesn't matter that much to me. Actually trying to recruit Adela is more important to me.

[x] [KAU] In Kvinn-Wyr, with an entrance from the Eastern Valley

Some fair arguments about wasting an AP on the tunnels. they have after all kept for millennia.

Meh, I might as well put my two cents in, and I do slightly favor sword if better over an extremely low priority mapping action. Sure, leaving on a high note would be nice, but... we'll, we just came back from hell, and brought an extra Karak with us. Mathilde deserves a break.

The sound of steel striking steel echoes though the courtyard, broken only in brief moments by that of heavy breathing and the hurried gulping of water. At times the blows connect, the combatants stagger and sounds of exertion turn briefly to those of pain, only for flesh and blood to be knit back together ready for the next burst of exertion.
-Pictured Lord Magister Mathilde Weber taking a break. :V

I mean, it's Mathilde. What did you expect. Also, uh hoping that last word is a typo. Otherwise this becomes an entirely different scenario.

I noticed that the majority of highly voted for plans don't try to recruit Adela. I haven't been following the discussion. Could someone give me a rundown of all the successful arguments against recruiting Adela and/or why Windsoak Mushroom research (and sword training) is more important than that right now?

The Windsoak mushrooms are a Panoramia project that she is doing with Mathilde. If we don't use the Duckling action for it, we'll have to finish it with a personal action.
Recruiting Adela can be done with an Institute half action next turn, which cannot be said for the project. Or at least that's how i think the Efficiency argument goes.

I have not really heard much of an argument for why she would be worth recruiting. She wants to be an engineer, not do esoteric research on the nature of magic.

Doing two sensitive research actions with a malus and without Gambler support feels like we are just expecting to quickly fail through them to not have to bother discussing them anymore, while at the same time convincing people who are actually seriously into those things that "they will never get voted for later" in order to push that through.

Well we read the Liber Mortis more than seven years ago and this is the first time we have ever seriously had shot at doing Tongs. I think there is a serious case for 'it will never be done otherwise' since you know it has been more than a third of the quest's total run time.

If Belegar is forced to choose between allowing our Transcendent to Boon to be destroyed by an attacking enemy versus sacrificing huge portions of K8P's population to extend the defensive line to defend it, he will choose the latter. Let's put the library someplace defensible, so he never has make that choice.

Every location we can choose is defensible. The entire karak is a massive fortress.

As for what is most defensible? That very much depends on what the enemy is and where they are coming from.

Having someone with one leg in WEB-MAT and one leg in the Imperial gunnery school, we can have a closer bond between the two institutions than just location.

I want to see more machines and devices that combine engineering and magic, and Adela being a Wizard Engineer is a good way to get that.

She's a magic engineer, and she has strong ties to the gunnery school, which is a sister organisation to our own research branch. Recruiting her would let us do some interesting collaboration with the gunnery school (and vice versa) and I think she'll enjoy the liaison work.

"Easily accessible" libraries are located in Altdorf, or Nuln, or any normal library, really. If that was the priority there would be no point in building this library, and the portion of the quest that is usually quoted to justify the library as being definitely in-character is all about durability.

I guess I just don't agree that we should be planning our library location around "what if the worst-case scenario of the Karak being breached happens" as opposed to "what if someone wants to go to the library from the places where the people are."

I'd rather optimize for the usual case than hedge against the worst case. And if we actually want to hedge against the worst case, the place we should be using is the Hall of Reckonings, which is the place that was defended to the last in the original fall of Karak Eight Peaks.
The 'usual case' would be 'visiting scholar' who can either stay in visitors apartments attached to the library, or bloody walk.
