Not against anyone in specific but I don't understand the point of re-voting?
Well for me with the general voting chaos I can't remember what I voted for and I'd rather not have to go back through the thread to find my own vote.

[X] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland
[X] Spymaster of Wissenland
[X] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred

I'm not super enthused when the exit condition for Markgraf is "get bored of it". That's why it feels like a dead end.

Yeah, if we get bored of it we can drop it. But our overdeveloped sense of responsability isn't going to let this bone go until we've done our job to stomp down vampire influence in Sylvania.

So, with luck we will only have to wait till an entire generation has grown up outside their influence? Y'know, if things go swimmingly well.

Because the entire problem is how literally every single adult has grown up under the shadow of vampire overlords and paying taxes in blood and that paradigm is all they know.

People are anxious about the fact that the vote was locked and then reopened and want to be sure they're still counted. Normally you can just look at the tally and verify that your name is there, but it only shows the first fifty names that voted for a thing, and, well...
The thread gets obsessed easily. I doubt we're leaving Sylvania until it's reached a K8P level of "settled", and 30 years is a low-end estimate of how long that will take.

Yeah, this is my concern. I love the idea of the job -- it's my third choice! -- but my #1 concern is "it is an all-consuming sort of job, not a 9-5."
Sorry for my ignorance, but what's a vote sniper?
People who wait until the end of a scheduled vote and then drop their vote at the last second, denying other people the opportunity to tactically revote in response. A form of last-mover advantage.

People want to be sure their vote is going to count; some of them might have forgotten if they already voted and don't want to go looking to see, others just wants to make it look like their preferred option is getting new votes in the hopes of encouraging others to change their minds or new voters to commit, others are worried the vote count might get messed up because of bans and mod actions because computers are dumb and don't always react the way to we expect. It's not really anything to worry about.

Not like how it is in the Empire, where every other person is a twit with a fistful of virulently-held beliefs they've never given any thought to.

This is my only issue with Markgraf.

Sylvanians are the worst of the lot too.

Edit: if for different reasons

Wiith regards to Mathilde setting up a religious institution for stopping vampires, I'd note that the first polity she tried that in, everyone working under her hated it and almost rebelled. The second polity where she set up a cult to Ranald has recently posted official notice of a Grudge against the deity signed by the High King.

Her track record on these things is so, so bad for a character with as high a piety score as she has.

We aren't dumping the bodies in a field, we'd be assigning them to extremely heavily-guarded facilities.

You say they'll be back in a thousand years? I say the Empire will look very different in a thousand years, and may well be able to handle them in a way that it can't right now.

Sometimes kicking a problem down the road is really putting it off until it's solvable.
The problem isn't vampires we caught coming back. The problems is vampires someone caught fifty years ago coming back.

A random farmer cuts his hand while raising a new barn and surprise, there was a vampire buried where he is digging the foundations! A new village is wiped off the map and we only know about it after a few weeks or months.

Or hell, a new village welcomes its vampire overlord as things get back into their "right and proper" state, and you are now able to work towards becoming a superhuman immortal too!

It's Sylvania. There are random vampires and associated nasties buried around every other ditch.

More than that, it's hundreds of years of the same social paradigm that we'd need to dismantle and rebuild from the ground up.

The job isn't just "kill all vampires current about". It's "make sure Sylvania doesn't rise up for the next Von Carstein that shows up".

And that's decades of work, no two ways about it.

There are now 606 unique voters in the tally.
Over six hundred people care enough about this quest, this piece of fan-created fiction, to express an opinion on it. @BoneyM truly has created something amazing.

I like Sylvania because at any point a peer level antagonist can pop out of the ground. The mortals run the gamut from pre-cowed to smart-enough-to-prosper-under-vampire rule. And of course where else could the Chekov's gun I mean the Liber Mortis come up.

I like bodyguard because of the high shenanigan factor, Heidi, and our cute goddson and of course future chief diplomat Wolf.

I like Nuln, because Nuln is interesting, Mathilde enjoys her luxurious lifestyle, the most entertaining underground opponents and the realestate to become a casino mogul or something.

Sylvania?

We're being explicitly told that this is a job we could still be reporting to Roswitta's grandchildren while doing. I'm taking that at face value.
Point was we have free reign. If we want to continue to grandchildren we can. We do not have to. If we decide to leave earlier than absolute victory, we will still leave the future Markgraf in a better position than if s/he would have if we never took it.

I can't believe that I've argued most positively in favor of Markgraf: it is only my fourth option

I expect us making a huge vault of vampire skulls. It will be our collection, and when we have to unwind we rezz a random one to bully it back into death.
