Updating my vote to include the Waystones project, because at least it's not guaranteed we'll be spending all of our time with the Dwarves.

[x] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred

Trying to link the images directly from the wiki just gives a bunch of broken images when you try to follow them.
Some people can't see the images. If you take out everything after the ? in the links and it should be fine.

Ok… I think I fixed it. Had to trim them all the way back to the png.

For the convenience of those that couldn't see them the first time:
Idle thought: What about the flag?

Loremaster is easy. Either of Belegar's banners (clan, karak) would serve just as well now as they did in the past.

Markgraf is equally easy but a bit more variable. Stirland has both old and new banners available. As does Sylvania (old and new) should we feel a bit more… independent.

Bodyguard would presumably get us the basic Empire banner. Although it is possible there is a family specific one we could use instead.

The Waystone Project however has me a little stumped. None of the canon banners really fit. Heck there isn't even much in the way of image for waystones. We would probably need to bespoke something.

Just curious but might I ask why you'd include Spymaster and Markgraf when the Bodyguard position would have us doing both of those things? Waystone I understand but not Bodyguard and both of those?

The one question I have is what benefits would choosing Markgraf give us that we can't get from most of the other options. It seems like people are choosing it just because it's familiar. Choosing Bodyguard literally lets us do vampire hunting, Nuln rat hunting, interacting with all other provinces and the dwarves holds while getting us Giant favors and contacts to call in when we get back to researching the Waystones.
People are choosing Loremaster, not Markgraf, because it's familiar, comfortable, avoids politics that effect Mathy and can avoid jobs we dont want 'to break poor Mathy' etc.

its incredibly frustrating to me when there is a list of far more focused and plot-driven jobs just to keep the one that has no over-arching plot, just a list of half thought up small adventures. just so we can circle the safely drain.

even Waystone, the other stay in 'K8Ps' (mostly) option at least has an actual plot to it. a quest goal.

Loremaster(both), are literally, 'lets just hang around and wait for Boeny to come up with something we can do here, instead of grabbing the great plot points over there.)

there is no plot, just little adventures to hold while boney thinks up something.

(and then get sad when that 'thing to do' is a dwarf civil war,.)

I legitimately might quit the thread for awhile if Loremaster wins: just so I can let the frustration I've been having with the threads fear of leaving the mountains (e.g plot safely.) fade a bit.

More power than being a representative of the royal family sent to solve their problem? I mean it's not like we would want to set up a permanent kingdom there anyway so I don't see why people would choose it over the Bodyguard position since even the arguement of having more resources or leeway is false.

Not necessarily more, but different kinds of power. Having lots of favors and connections representing a major figure is one kind of power. Being a major figure yourself is another. Think of it as the difference between clout you have for simply being who you are, rather than who you know/call in.

Bodyguard is not infact both of those things, Spymaster and Markgraf have other duties more central to the realms they take part in, where as bodyguard is more generic adventuring.
I can understand that the Bodyguard option doesn't have all the same responsibilities as Markgraf or Spymaster but the overarching point of solving the regions problems to help solidify the Royal family means that we would be ending at the same place just with a little different journey. Why would we not want to pick the option that while yes doesn't give us as much local power, let's us accumulate much more widespread power and favors in every or damn near province of the empire. It would also help us out with the Waystone project more because we have access to a much wider area to investigate such things and aquire talent and favors from more varied individuals and sources to help out. Not to mention getting the Royal families seal of approval for anything we do meaning we can cut out a lot of the graf and dreg of local politics to get what we want done.

I think it's really unfair to your fellow questers to frame their support for Loremaster in terms of fear. If I wanted to frame other votes in their least charitable possible ways and ascribe unvirtuous motives to my fellow questers, I could, but I don't because that's a jerk thing to do.

If you don't understand why someone else supports something or doesn't support something, you could ask them instead of assuming it's because of fear of consequence.

I prefer Bodyguard over both of those, but am primarily concerned with not staying with the dwarves forever and retreading the same ground. As such, I am approval voting the options that might beat Loremaster-at-Large, which I dislike more than any other option on the list except Sinecure.

I feel slightly offended by this, as it's quite dismissive of people (like me) that vote for loremaster not because we're afraid of "breaking poor Mathy", but because we immensely enjoy the cast (Belegar in particular) that is associated with Loremaster. And dismissing the Loremaster job as unimportant timewasting is just as annoying as well. Please don't talk about us other voters like we're empty-minded fools.

I can understand that I guess but it's just very frustrating to see so many people vote for options that are not as advantageous to us just because they want to beat Loremaster.

Especially when the Bodyguard options only 8 behind Loremaster so it's not that insurmountable a hill to climb

I'm not talking about fear.

I'm talking about Comfort.

Fear implies there is an active danger that the quest is trying to counter. (that's good.)

Comfort is about the thread trying to avoid fear at the expense of other things.

Is it uncharitable? maybe. but I actually think its the case a lot of the time. (hell. you have after all argued that 'I dont want to leave the towers' as one of your main reason.)

so sorry, Its not my style to pull the punch on what I think: and I think Loremaster is just the Confort option.

...I also voted for Bodyguard. Why do you think that dropping the other votes will somehow help it "climb" that hill?

Yeah the bodyguard never appealed to me. My first choice is the Border Princess to keep someone unsavory from attaining it and causing problems down the line

Lot of interesting things this vote huh?

I mean, I'm fine working with them to communicate "Belegar is the best, you should be more like him, boy you sure are in Belegar's debt right now for lending you his wizard." More than fine; T-posing on inferior kings so that Belegar's star rises higher in the Karaz Ankor is a major selling point of the job!

This is important, because it's what Belegar gets out of the job. Unlike the sinecure, which is very much "Thank you for everything Mathilde, here's a task to research Dawi Lorem Ipsum for half a decade while you have fun with research," the Loremaster-at-Large job benefits Belegar as much as it does Mathilde. It's Belegar stunting on other kings by saying, "Hey, remember that favor I owed you for letting me bunk in your Karak while I put together the K8P reclamation? Well, I sent my Mathilde to help with your problems now! Good luck!"

(Mathilde: "Hey so you said you were having issues with digging canals going over schedule? What if we get a dragon and--")

I feel that this is a pretty uncharitable mischaracterization, both of the Loremaster option and the reason people are voting for it.

I like the idea of running around solving Dwarf problems. It's fun. And BoneyM has clearly signalled he has plenty of ideas for things to do. It's not some kind of "pause" option.

I've fallen behind again so I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned this but we should be a lot less optimistic of the scale of the Waystones project. There was a great deal of frustration for any research that wasn't considered to have immediate use such as AV, and Waystones research will likely be even worse. The large scale stuff will be locked behind years of actions and I strongly suspect that large portions of the voting base will begin to be frustrated as they feel that multiple actions have been burned without any use in sight. While we will likely pick up bits and pieces of Waystone lore the reason most people are interested in the choice is the world changing results that will likely take decades to reach and I don't think fixing up waystones will be the one clever trick to saving the world.
