The expedition is leaving because there is Nothing They can do.

Mathilde is a Grey Wizard that is heavily specialised in Infiltration. This is literally her area of expertise and magical strength. This is perfect situation for her to excel- if she can't even play to her strengths, then what fucking good is she?
Plenty good, without need for any profanity.

I do think that should we successfully return to the Empire alive, it would be a good idea to stop by the Bretonnian embassy. We know that they're one of the groups that most recently fought Morgur before this happened and they've probably got an easier line to talking to the Asrai than the Asur or we do. Letting them know where an enemy demigod went is good from both a security perspective for them/Athel Loren and an information perspective since that could be a pathway for us to ask them for information about him.

Honestly, I am burned out on the mystery. Unless we get it for free (not happening) I don't want the answer anymore, I just want to go somewhere else. It just isn't worth the potential bad end anymore.
This is the exact kind of stubborness a significant part of the thread was ready to kill Borek over before even meeting him.
I also see infiltration as a poor choice. Given that this Karak has been sieged by chaos for centuries, I very much doubt nobody tried to be sneaky before. Even if they were nowhere near our level, that would have been the only thing the dwarfs need to start preparing for it, and they don't do things by half.

[x] LAST: Attempt to infiltrate Karag Dum

I don't even care about getting the whole story, or clearing Dum's name, or getting tactical knowledge, or anything. I just want to satisfy my curiosity by seeing what Dum looks like on the inside; if there are a lot of dwarfs, only a few, if they seem crazy, seem dour, seem happy, seem regretful, etc. If there are any noteworthy shrines to foreign gods, if there are still Ancestor shrines around, if those shrines are broken or defaced, if there's any Chaos script about. All that.

I want to figure out, not what happened, but what is happening, just the one look. We can put the pieces together later, if need be. You can say that curiosity killed the cat, but I consider leaving a mystery unsolved, any mystery (however minor), when you have the chance to make it otherwise, to be philosophically unacceptable.

May Ranald protect us, Shallya watch over us, Mork witness us, Ulgu be with us, and Gazul guide our soul should we fail.

A connection is a two way street, and the Karaz Ankor won't connect with them any longer, as they consorted with chaos.
A keen eye might note that I wrote about a connection to "the forces of Order", not "the Karaz Ankor". Because while they're obviously not compatible with the latter, they might still be able to work alongside the Grey College.

I'd say it's a bit slanted to completely blame the Eonir for that rather than their leaders who knowingly sent them in to do the equivalent of colonizing a minefield because they wanted to know whether the mines had expired or were still active.

Also, lets not mince words, everyone of those human citizens are criminals.

The Empire has legally bindings agreements guaranteeing the Eonir the rights to their native lands. By settling there those citizens of the Empire were breaking the laws of their own government.

Im on the side of the dying race whose ancestral home was invaded by the criminals of a foreign nation. Good on them for figuring out a way to make the Empire respect their own laws, even if they had to add Ulric to their pantheon rather than a respectable deity like Ranald.

So if i understand the vote right, this should be "we should leave, but if for some reason the vote is to stay we should at at least go with the options that dont get any closer to Morghur", right?

They've been fine for the last two centuries.

Nowhere in the holy book does it say you can't trick a beastie that wields Dhar into fighting the other guys that wield Dhar for you.

We have a habit of pitting our enemies (including those Dhar-using Skaven) into fighting each other instead of us, ourselves.

That involves corrupting sentient tree allies; it's in the same general direction as making Chaos Spawn. Which as far as we can tell he isn't doing.
something is suppressing Morghur's aura. Whatever that is, is a significant step beyond trickery. There is a difference between tricking enemies to fight each other and whatever dickery is occurring here.

And yeah, they've been fine for two centuries. And maybe 500 years from now after both a Storm of Chaos and the End Times Karak Dum will still be standing and I'll look like a real ass for assuming they wouldn't survive that. Shame on me

This is like the Blood Fountain. We'll get over it.

I disagree. The Blood Fountain was destroyed, and the other mysteries in Sylvania were never much on-screen. In contrast, Karag Dum is the centerpiece of in-game years, 17 and counting updates, and hundreds of pages of speculation. Mark my words, a narrow win for [] Leave will result in a strong desire by many in the thread to come back here, next time without a steam-wagon train and a dragon as backup. There's something in there worth finding, and it's taken us a bazillion pages to get just one step away from it.

Unlikely. As far as I'm aware, no Order faction finds binding Dhar using beings acceptable. Its beyond the pale to everyone.

Hell, Mathilde said it herself:

And remember - don't touch the bad magic. There's no circumstance so bad that Dhar can't make worse. Questions?"

There are three main courses of action: Stay, Last Minute, and Leave. One of those wins, in which case the most popular sub-option for it wins, like approaching the camp.

Suppressing a mutagenic Chaos aura so it can't turn people into Chaos Spawn, truly the blackest of arts.

Almost as terrible as their first heresy; not using the name Thungni gave them.

So they'll be doomed along with most of the known world? Bummer.

Yes, that understanding is correct.
