I think Stand Your Ground is fine for now. Yeah, something could pop out of the ground and try to eat us.

But we could call the cavalry away from the Expedition and then have it pounce there. One of the options is rushing back as fast as we can, after all, so it's eminently a possibility in Mathilde's mind.

I don't want to cry wolf and then have the wolf eat up the cows when everyone was busy defending the sheep.
Guys, Guys, Guys ! If a Waystone is tampered it can accumulate magic that mostly transform into dhar, right ?
Let's use the Second Secret of Dhar on the mountain !

[X] Stand your ground
Mountain with a shitton of magic: *exists*
Mathilde: Are you challenging me ?

[X] Stand your ground

Well, let's see how this goes.

(possibly quite terribly, but at least then we'll know! I don't know if I could deal with the uncertainty if nothing happens all the way to Dum...)

[X] Act normal
- There might be unfriendly eyes on you. Pretend you didn't see anything and return to the Expedition as normal, and decide what to do from there.

But yes. Why is there suddenly still a great big amount of energy?

Karak Eight Peaks has energy because the 8 mountains still serve as a huge henge.

But Karak Vlag is gone, transformed into (or replaced with) stone.

What the heck is still channeling and directing waystone energy to this point?
I thought it was confirmation of the "everything in Vlag got turned to stone" theory, with the 'playing silly buggers with us' being about the Dwarfs and their whole stone/magic thing.
That's an interesting idea, but if this were the case, you'd expect to still be seeing Karak Vlag and all the people and structures of it, right? Just, now being made entirely out of stone. You know, walls and gates of stone. Random stone people everywhere. Instead, even things like the mined out areas have been filled in with stone?

That only affects constructs made of Dhar. Raw Dhar isn't being strangled into a firm structure, so it's not vulnerable to a progressive collapse.

It's a pity the Night Prowler side of the Coin only works in towns, it would have been handy to help with Act Normal.

Ok, try and look at this objectively Jyn.

[ ] Act normal

Pro: don't set anything off early (hopefully)
Pro: Time to think
Pro: don't panic the expedition while 'can turn back is in peoples minds.'

cons: if too late, well....
Con: things are probably already happening.

[ ] Run like hell
Pro: Should get back in time
Pro: can plan.
Con: will set off some panic
Con: might let the bad guys know that we know.

[ ] Stand your ground
Pro: Set it off early. (the type of good news that would be bad except it ends with 'and I took care of it'.)
Pro: refuge in audacity. (whatever the bad guys expected, its not going to be this.)

Cons: there is a bigggg assumption that Mathy and the rangers can actually handle whats coming.
Cons: if the bad guys don't bite and instead wait and bid their time, Mathy will have egg on her face and people might not belive her.

I'm... leaning to the more active side ('Run like hell' and 'Stand your ground')

things are in motion, faking ignorance only works when you have time to turn things around before they start.

Stone is an excellent insulator of magic.

Yes, I think we caught a deception so subtle that only a Grey Wizard magister would catch it. Teclis may be far above Mathilde as a mage... but he's not a professional paranoid!
Or the field was set up after he left - the amount of dhar/chaos-stuff may have made his perception screwy, and before the dhar faded/chaos-stuff receded, the entity working down there threw up the meme-field.

I also like to think that a light wizard would have been likely to notice it :)

I mean, I'm not sure it's all that subtle, but you're not wrong, Teclis isn't a professional paranoiac. He's a professional teacher/murder-hobo.

That's a fair point. I wonder if we'll get told. Or work it out, even if it's just the thread, not Mathy. Still, one thing is for sure, magic be weird yo.

I recommend standing our ground. Acting normal give the memetic field more opportunities to mindfuck us.
Presumably Run Like Hell would have the same benefit. I think I like our odds better fighting whatever's here with the entire expedition at our backs, and not just the quick response forces. Particularly the magical help.

[X] Stand your ground

Personally I don't think we need to worry to much, there are miles of stone between us and the issue and stone is an excellent insulator of magic. As long as we have backup we should be fine.

Oh boy.

I'm definitely leaning towards Play It Cool, since having the trap sprung now with zero backup could be awful. The game is afoot, and we should consolidate our resources first before kicking things off. On the other hand, be wary of becoming scared enough of embarrassment that we fail to act and get everyone killed.

Also, am I correct in my reading that the Waystone here is the thing being exploited for its magic? If so, can she give an explanation for what's happening that doesn't involve revealing a High King Secret?

Hmm, that seems reasonable...

wait...

AHHH, the Leech is affecting the thread too! Run, flee for your lives, your mind is not your own!!!
