It'll be the size of a normal-size wolf. If the pup was a giant wolf or some even more exotic breed I'd have said so.
Regular wolf is still a big dog, so I'm okay with it.

Honestly inventing even one actual battle magic spell would be an incredible achievement worth of a lord magister.
No it wouldn't be. Magister Lord isn't an Achievement, it's an office. Being the strongest wizard doesn't qualify us to be a boss of them, being the best boss would qualify us to be a boss of them.

Fuck Lord Magister, inventing a new Battle Magic spell is worthy of getting you going down in legend.

Because the Battle Magic we see here? That's it. Nobody, no wizard anywhere, can do better than that, because they already push the limits of Wizardry to the edge and beyond. That's why "Battle Magic can never be cast reliably" is a thing. Why even Loremasters and other ancient ultimate casters don't invoke them lightly.

Spell invention is likely going to come in the form of the earlier spell tiers, rather than invent new Battle Magic--because Battle Magic is too fucking difficult to experiment with, and the stakes are too high to justify it. Since even the fully refined, fully optimized over thousands of years Battle Magic spells are still likely to blow up in your face.

Not sure if this has been asked before, but now that we're on a new campaign along with new people, is the Dramatis Personae going to be updated? While we don't know most of the other people who lead this campaign, I feel like at the very least Belegar Ironhammer should be present.

The pup is about about a month old and growing rapidly; in two months it will be a juvenile and the age where it would start to join in hunts and will no longer fit in your backpack. In another three, effectively an adult and most of it's full size and capable of hunting alone, and it will continue growing at a slower rate for another six months after that.

Once you start getting to know people I'll collapse the current Dramatis Personae page into a Stirland spoiler and work on the one for the Expedition.

The first spell I want to invent is a spell that creates mist, it would have an effect similar to pall of darkness, but with a larger area of effect and less visual impairment.

[x] Open a correspondence between Belegar and Karaz-a-Karak to see if the Dwarven capital can contribute any further to the campaign.
[x] Work with Marksman Codrin Petrescu, who has emerged as leader of the Stirlandian forces, to supplement provisions by hunting the Forest of Gloom.
[x] The Amber Wizard journeymanlings.

So, how do we like our chances of teaching a Wolf pup to ride a Shadowhorse? ;)

But more seriously, it'll down our long distance movement considerably when we can no longer carry Wolf.

We don't have to take him with us everywhere, he can stay at home guarding our lab sometimes.
True, but we're in a moving army right now, and he'll be grown soon.

Real world dogs often like travelling in cars sticking their heads out. I like to imagine a Wolf resting his head on his very own Shadowhorse, tongue lolling out, enjoying the sense of speed... :)

Don't familiars have to stay within a certain distance, even after the bonding? I don't know, I'm just asking.
Not after you've formed the bond.

Well, we don't have to bring him everywhere. The +1 Magic applies as long as he's alive and there are familiar ability upgrades which let a wizard communicate complex thoughts and emotions with their familiar at any distance, as well as speak through their mouth, meaning that "Mathilde goes out scouting and Wolf stays near important allies and relays live intelligence" is a perfectly reasonable approach.

I mean, normally it's the familiar that would get sent out scouting, but can we really countenance exposing our darling to danger like that? Better to do it ourselves.

Not if (when) we develop an Obsession with him, no. :)

Relaying live scouting info is another nice possible use, good thinking. I wonder if any of the Journeymen have familiars already? The Ambers being most likely to, I'd think.

What is the scale of battle magic in RL situations as opposed to tiny TT situations?

The job taken, the job done.

@BoneyM I was perusing the Informational and found the spel Melkoth's Mystifying Miasma. It specifically mentions fog. Any clue yet if our trait would influence us or the spell? It's in the future, but one can dream.

How much can Mathilde's Shadowsteed carry, and how modifiable is its form? I'm currently imagining the legendary Dämmerlichtreiter approaching on her nightmare black steed. Then she turns to the left and a happy doggy, including lolling tongue, in a small black side-car.
