Huh, looking back at the update where Maximilian discovered the wonders of it was released on October 12th. Now we're here February 12th and the Silk Revolution is ready to begin, four months having passed, a very auspicious number indeed.

Ranald please watch over our spider babies as they steal the entire Old World economy and beyond.

That's is modern silk though. Not silk whose only currently known source is across a massive region known for killing almost everything that makes the mistake of wandering in.
Sure, modern day is "ten cows per ton of silk" and 14th century is more like "two cows per yard of silk", so about 1000x more expensive, and that's without 8000km worth of gribbles on the way.

My problem with the saving it option is that the thing I want (grand library) has I time factor to it. As in, it would be better to start it with a small budget now that can be increased later, then to wait until there is enough money for a big budget. As there will be problems that Time is the problem not money.

Not really. I do my best so that any of the options in a given vote has a shot at winning, because otherwise there's no point to it being an option in the first place. That means that most of the time, any given result is one that I thought was a possibility.
I would like to remind everyone that the necromancy faction has the official endorsement of the QM and he believes we have an honest shot at winning!

And that goes for going full Prophet of Mork too. So if there's a secret Morkite faction hiding out there, you can come out now! You might not be able to trust the thread we all vote in, but you can believe in the @BoneyM that believes in you!

Adding this to my vote. The college sanctuary/center of learning thing can be theoretically initiated even if Belegar lived alone in a little hut with a bookshelf, a goat and a water source. Though admittedly it would be pretty damn useless at that point.

Regardless, as long as we describe in detail what we want and underline that this should be a policy coupled with a growing work in progress in which speed and investment rate aren't a priority there is no reason to wait with voicing our request.

That said, there are still open questions as to how to phrase the request and what all to include. Things like making sure it has potential to grow, outlining default Dwarf involvement in staff hierarchy, setting up the laws that visitors and refugees have to follow and finding a way to differentiate between unjustly prosecuted Wizard and dangerous Black Magister both legally and practically.

I mostly only read all of BoneyM's comments, the comments related to them and occasionally stuff related to whatever discussion I am participating in or random posts between my first and last comment of the day, so I don't know how much work has been already done by people when it comes to suggesting boon requests, writing them up into a workable form and ironing out the details through discussion. Does anyone already have some amount of aggregated work on the subject?

I'm in favor of this, although a hybrid between this and the bounty system would also be nice.

I'm assuming that the We would be able to switch to economic integration easily enough in the event of the other Karag being taken back somehow in the future.

To any who are in favour of spending the boon, but are concerned about the impact in terms of resources - regarding the cost of a library, I would like to point out that we can explicitly tie the fulfillment of our boon to Belegar not going full out on anything, but instead tying the amount he does to "how much is not harmful to K8P"

If we're exposing We to danger.. is that kinda... rash?

We got to agree on a dirt cheap prize for silk. I'm all in fattening them up and hiring some quality mercs with the proceeds.

We feed the we with either livestock or POW its ok, but if we made them to first line of defences too?

Supposed they come across goblin quest protagonist.. theres some serious dough that can be lost here.

On the subject of the boon, something that realy bothered me was how the disscussion seems rooted more of how to not break the karag than getting the most of our boon, if that is not the greatest indication Belegat just doesn't have the means to pay us back right now I don't know what is. When we spend the boon I want it to be on something that fells significant enought, right now fells like we are only going to get a slight bigger library budget until the Karak can afford more anyway, so we may as well wait untill Belebro can actualy pay afford to pay us, and we probably will have some better ideas of what to spend it on once we lose this constraint.

Also can someone tell me what the people asking a dwarven grandmaster to have a go at the repeater are expecting to get ? Because I fell the most likely result right is some kind of unique masterpiece.

I'm not sure why you were tagging me -- I've mostly been commenting on the Library vote and haven't really posted much about the We issue -- but you make a good point that a role where the We don't really contribute in a material way may not help with their integration. I will drop my vote for Scavenge the Gauntlet and just vote for hunting in the mountains.
Mostly because I was yanking your whole vote, except for a single change, as well as you being one of the folks that people would vote for based on name alone. (which is itself based on prior thread contributions and so on.)

So if I could convince you...

@primemountain I disagree with you on your characterization of the Scavenge the Gauntlet vote. Yes, it doesn't have the We give any substantial military contribution yet, but no, it doesn't pigeonhole them into civilian craftsmen either. It is essentially the middle of the two.
To explain: The We eat life prey. Which in this case would mean life greenskin. So in the Gauntlet they would still at the very least be additional foot soldiers. Though they would be inexperienced foot soldiers in an area where their contribution isn't actually needed. Recruits on training grounds in other words. They would still have to personally fight easy prey greenskin and they would do so in the vicinity, and maybe even alongside, the other forces there. Very similar to how we treated the Ducklings in their first few skirmishes which we specifically scouted out for them.

So it definitely doesn't play towards their current talents and costs them some independence, but if you want to ever integrate them into the army this might even be the best option. At the same time it maximizes their current food intake among all the options that aren't purely civilian craftsman based.

Edit: Don't get me wrong. I quite like the Hunt the Mountains vote as well. I just believe that the one I'm advocating for is the best one to grow the We short term without atrophying their Hunter caste. And if the We work like I think they do then increasing their numbers either makes them noticeably more intelligent, or makes them split into additional individual We-minds. Either is great overall, because one makes them learn faster, thus leading to them making their own informed choices, while the other means that various We hives could choose different options among the ones presented.
I don't agree. It's doesn't say "Hold the Line with the Dwarves", it's "Scavenge". The dwarves will be taking the brunt of the fighting and the We will move in afterwards as cleaners. Collecting fresh corpses, and hunting down survivors. There's some cooperation there, but not an opportunity to meaningfully contribute, the way the We did by guarding the underpasses from the Skaven.
If we're exposing We to danger.. is that kinda... rash?

They have lived their whole lives alone, hunting Skave and Goblins and Orks for centuries in the dark. They can handle themselves. The issue is that "fattening them up and hiring some quality mercs with the proceeds." means making them lose that edge. In a setting like WHF. By paying for their meals with the blood of men and dwarves.

This never ends well.

As for goblin quest protagonist? Then bloody well teach them. The only real protection against the Dark they have, is giving them good examples. Sit on your ass and weave webs? Indolence over having a natural resource that's valuable while others die for them? That's how you turn the We into Oil Barons. Do you want the We to act like Oil Barons in a world with Slanesh?
