@BoneyM do the Dwarfs have any Rune of Cold? Refrigerated containers could be nifty export good to Barak Varr, who can then re-sell K8P silk to the Empire in return for cheap Averland/Stirland/Moot produce and meats.
They do have a rune for that, but only use them for important things.
And not least of all, the desk itself, where two visible runes would keep any drink suitably warm or cool, a small rack hidden away in the wall to keep quills and ink on hand, and an ample supply of papyrus, vellum, parchment, and even the Cathayan wood-pulp 'paper' that many older wizards were sure would never catch on.

Well, the We seems to be a remnant of a Pre-Skaven underground ecosystem, so we should look into other pockets of surviving wildlife and see what can live underground and feed the We, I am hoping there are nugs somewhere, so they could learn to farm their own food.

As for a short term solution, I kinda like all options? The gauntlet seems like the simplest option, but I don't want the Drahz forces to be there forever, we have to deal with the source eventually so they would have to change again.

So the Badlands seem like the more permanent solution, unless we go for the trade (which would be expensive I imagine, unless we really get into the goat business with the goo). The mountains could work as well, but I feel like they might accidentally run into some giant eagles get in trouble for it.
We don't actually know that the we are pre-skaven. Its quite possible that they might be an escaped Moulder experiment or something.

Diversification is one of those things that's going to take time for them to grasp. Their bone-deep understanding is that there's The Way To Get Food and though that Way can change, doing multiple at once wouldn't make sense. One way must be better, so that is the Way. Just do that.
So they normally just hunt an area until no food then move on. Not usually for sustainability.

[X] [WE] Scavenge the Gauntlet
Though it's become less of an attempted invasion and more of a source of entertainment to the greenskins forcing their less-favoured underlings to throw themselves against the Dwarven defences, the Underway passage from Black Crag to Karak Eight Peaks is still a constant flow of greenskins. Though they're unlikely to make any real contribution as the battle is one of logistics rather than martial ability for the Dwarves, it will keep them reliably and safely fed, and they will be crediting most of those meals to the Dwarves.

How well studied is the difference between a potential familiar and another animal of it's kind?

Not, really. They're rare enough that those found end up as familiars, rather than test subjects. And doing tests on the familiars of Wizards is one of those things that ends up with you being exploded by a fireball and it being declared an unsolvable mystery for the ages, like that University professor that did dissections on Dwarves and was found dead of a strange and mysterious axe-related malady.

So they normally just hunt an area until no food then move on. Not usually for sustainability.

Their primary prey was Skaven, which does tend to warp the equations of what is and isn't sustainable.

Wizards being comfortable is a military application.

So people have spent time asking what option with the we would be best for us to pick.
Personally, i am wondering what option with the We would be best to pick for the We.
I'd like something that makes the We as independently secure as possible, hunting the mountains seems the best bet for now, until/unless we can teach them how to raise cattle or something.

Moratorium is up for another hour, you can't vote yet.

It isn't like it is going to go to us. Likely to be finders keepers.
If they found anything weird then it's our work to figure it out, that likely includes recovered Skryre devices and moulder weirdness. And it's not just greed talking, I want to know if they managed to recover the original vaults or if they were looted, along with any other lost works like Bok or the prototype thrower, lots of flavor and amazing imagery to be had in opening old vaults and abandoned enemy holds.

Runesmiths focus on armaments, rather than export goods.
Can we suggest King Belegar to have one be commissioned? Sustainable food supplies for the We will be critical for K8P's economic growth, and we'll be able to keep the Undumgi morale very high with fresh Imperial foodstuffs until local substitutes can be produced.

Or is Kragg bashing his head against Bok already?

The We are their own sustainable food supply. And Undumgi morale is about as high as it could possibly be.

Sustainable food supplies for everyone is important for k8p economic growth. The We are actually easier to feed then many because the orc just keep coming.

Silly spooders. Mathilde needs to teach them about diversifying assets and stock portfolios. Many webs safer than one web. Many We better than one big We.

I'm thinking 'scavenge the gauntlet' for now, with an eye towards eventually pivoting to the economic 'live critter for spider silk' option once Black Crag stops being such a nuisance. Helping to fight greenskins also gives a good impression with other dwarfs, some of whom might appreciate having some neighbors who consider goblins and Skaven 'lunch' and good dawi as 'not-lunch', even if they don't get involved in the silk trade. Imagine what Zhufbar could get up to with a semi-reliable supply of silk and an extra layer of spider friends hanging around their mountain home.

Ok, so can anyone think of any negatives for scavenge the gauntlet? because all the other options have at least one downside and I cannot think of any for it and it is setting off my latent paranoia.

Given that the We is a collective intelligence, you might liken their way of Hunting to a person using many hands or tools to get food. You might change up what or how you eat, but using one hand to hold chopsticks to eat your wonton soup while you're simultaneously hand-gobbling jello is a bit of a juggling act and will take some practice, even when you've gotten over the initial "why would anyone want to do that" phase.

I can't help but think we'll be needing this sooner or later.

Though I'd be fine with asking for a few more Master Runesmith-made defensive and utility items. If anyone can stack buffs it'd be runesmiths. I would like to not die.
