I think it also has to do with K8P past history with water additives. Being that the skaven dumped warpstone into their supply.
Again, that history is exactly why they'd be on board with it, and why I brought it up in the first place. Belegar disliked the idea of being besieged, so he was enthusiastic about the Burning Shadows tower, and similarly he'd be enthusiastic about securing Eight Peaks' water supply so it wouldn't fall like it did last time if it worked.

As far as i am aware Dispel is for breaking enchantments and ongoing magic spells, counterspelling is for interfering with magic in the moment it is cast. Dispel destroys a skeleton a necromancer raised, counterspelling prevents him from raising more. Seems like two different things to me.

I'm familiar with knowing some sort of Dispel effect being a prerequisite for any sort of Counter-Spelling. I'm unaware if this applies to WHF and want to confirm whether my assumption is applicable.

Plus this means that Johann might be able to Counter-Spell, which is useful strategic information.

Is there a reason we didn't take a shot at learning shadow of death other than knowing the superior version?

We didn't need it to get Magic 8 due to inventing the MAP. Knowing the superior version means that there's no reason to pick it up then.

I think it would be best if it was random. Or rather 'random'.

Basically whenever you get the inspiration for something to occur you write it out and then in the next social action one of the choices is locked out and we get to enjoy the mysterious inspired writing.

Not sure if such an idea is appealing to you though.

That's how it would work.

Edit: also my standard Julia addition.
[ ] Julia, See what she has gotten up to as Stirland's most experienced spy master.

Added.

Wait what? Cleansing Glow makes food and water poison?

For Dwarves, yes. Long-term exposure to magic turns Dwarves to stone.

If using hysh to cleanse water makes the water poison to dwarfs, then why wouldn't using ghyran to grow food make that food poison to dwarfs?

More steps removed.

Does this mean that a Wizard can Counter-Spell without knowing Dispel?

If it's just a matter of ignorance, yes. If there's something stopping them from knowing Dispel, it might also stop them from remotely interfering with someone else's spellcasting.

Seriously though, does he have any or does he hide them so well that we can't tell?

None that you can notice, and if they're hiding one (or attempting to) it's impolite to draw attention to it.

Focusing on K8P leaders seems like a good idea this turn. Also, we really need to build a working relation with Caravello, especially since he is in our companies pocket.

You are aiming too low. Given that the City of Pillars is Clan Mors most powerful and renowned fortress, if Gnawdwell still lives after the fighting in Skavenblight ended, he will be here. Just imagine the secrets we could gain from a former member of the Council of Thirteen!

He's even easily bribable, since he should already be very elderly at this point, and according to the wiki he maintains his life by the use of Skyre doping elixirs. Which he won't have access to when imprisoned. We could dangle the services of the Jade college to prolong his life in front of his whiskered nose...

Remember, Hybris is a cowards word.
I mean, Belegar really trusts us, but there's a difference between capturing some minor chieftain for intel on the Skaven, and capturing and keeping alive a Lord of Decay. Gnawdell, and any of the 13 for that matter, are wrapped up in way too many Grudges for not killing him to be palatable.

I'll probably change this based on either the continuing discussion or strategic voting, but this is what I'll start will.

[X] Princess Edda, as she oversees the reopening of a long-dormant silver mine north of Death Pass.
[X] Prince Kazrik, as he builds on his relationship with Nuln.

I like this idea a lot.

Uh, wait, question @BoneyM -- did we end up not trying to learn Shadow of Death at all? Was it a matter of Mathilde deciding to skip it, or just not having the time to squeeze in the final spell?

EDIT: Woops, that was already asked on this page. Didn't see that post.

Are we even writing to her anymore? Let's find out what she's up to. Oh hey my write-in got added to the update, hooray! Everyone vote for this, it's the best option.

[X] Francesco Caravello, proud leader of the Undumgi and possible future Thane.
[X] Oswald Oswaldson, newly-minted Chief Bombardier of the Undumgi.
[X] Soizic, newly elevated to military leader of the Undumgi.
[X] Sir Ruprecht Wulfhart, as the new home of the Winter Wolves takes shape.

Our human friends. Fancesco is important and someone to know, Oswald is amusing and fun to read about, Soizic is mysterious and needs to be watched, Wulfhart is kind of boring but he has a giant wolf so that's cool.

[X] Karak Hirn, to satisfy your curiousity about Prince Ulthar.
Ulthar was my favourite Dwarf. He has since taken a bus to Karak Hirn, but we shall defy fate and bring him back.

[X] Anton, to see how his firearm factory is going.
To find out about his greatest waifu, guns.

[X] Investigate the aftermath of the Empire's campaigns against the Skaven in Nuln and Ubersreik.
[X] Investigate the aftermath of Bretonnia's campaigns against the Skaven in Mousillon and the Black Chasm.

Let's find out what got blown up. Nuln is particularly interesting.

[X] Yes, have one social interaction be initiated by someone other than Mathilde.
Should be fun to read. Mystery inspiration mechanic.

Didn't we pay to roll for every spell we didn't know? I was asking why it didn't count on that list.

We paid to roll for learning 4 specific spells rather than rolling to see if we could roll to learn up to 4 random spells.

If it's just a matter of ignorance, yes. If there's something stopping them from knowing Dispel, it might also stop them from remotely interfering with someone else's spellcasting.

Would asking Johann more about the details of his Inflexible Trait be considered rude?

What would cleansed water do to humans if drunk for the length of a siege?

Probably nothing. Dwarves specifically do not mix well with magic and are innately Magic Resistant. Humans are generally unchanged or at most unnoticeably changed by small amounts of magic going through them, unless said magic is innately Corruptive or Transforming.

I dunno, we might be able to swing torturing him for information if he's not a Grey Seer (I don't think the 13 get actual magic?) until he dies. Grim and of limited value comparatively, but the Dwarves would probably go for it.

You can't be right. Dwarves are resistant to magic, which is why magic affects them less than humans. Humans, on the other hand, are the most mutable race on Mallus and would get changed by exposure to magic long before dwarfs start turning to stone from it.
