Retaking the whole of K8P is a multigeneration project even for Dawi. We have living space, agricultural space, industrial space, mines, command of the pass all in a fairly defensible perimeter. The priorities are consolidating that threat surface, growing into the space we have, and crushing active threats from the rest as efficiently and cheaply as possible. The threat surface that needs the most work is below - the Lhune deeps, the many tunnels, the Grand Avenues, the water table. The only expansion we want to do any time soon is a cautious grinding away at the Skaven. Finding and breaking the all the links to the Under-Empire would be great. We need to keep all the other factions weak and infighting as a matter of threat containment but we don't need more Karags.

Basically, the time for further conquest is when Edda says we need it.

Sorry, I am a little profane on Warhammer lore... Azyr wasn´t some kind of afterlife?

Azyr is the Wind of the Heavens aka Weather Magic and Star Magic. It includes throwing lightning bolts, dropping meteorites on people, and Prophesy.

Here's a list of the Winds and their Lores.

Hysh, the White Wind, the Lore of Light
Azyr, the Blue Wind, the Lore of the Heavens
Chamon, the Yellow Wind, the Lore of Metal
Ghyran, the Green Wind, the Lore of Life
Ghur, the Brown Wind, the Lore of Beasts
Aqshy, the Red Wind, the Lore of Fire
Ulgu, the Grey Wind, the Lore of Shadow
Shyish, the Purple Wind, the Lore of Death

The protector will be good for when we go to nagarythe. Use it to get that hard to earn elf favor.

but we dont really need more daarf or human favor beyond what we naturally earn. Its other modes are more useful to us right now.

That's an interesting point. Perhaps Mathilde can join Johann and the punch cleric on their workouts. I'd never considered the potential for Advanced Fitness. It's probably not a big enough part of Mathilde's narrative for Advanced Fitness to come with a trait, as Greatswording did, but it's still possible.
The narrative is that she is seen as a champion from her allies when she takes to the frontline (instead of doing spy stuff behind the enemy line). As seen with the ork bodyguards or even better with the watchtower door beam where she sucsefully infiltrated but lacked the physical ability to continue silently.
I don't think we can get any tougher without supernatural assistance. We're already a great sword toting adventurer who lives up a hundred flights of stairs. What more exercise could we possibly accomplish?
To quote verbanium her thoughs: "Now I do not need to worry about keeping my fitness up."
Passively keeping it or actively strengthening it. There is a lot of difference.
I dunno, it's probably possible to get that up another level. I'd have thought that advanced fitness is achievable for any one that's dedicated with levels above that requiring exceptionally impressive genetic heritage to beat or divine blessings.
FItness started with Beginner and became normal. It was a side benefit of training. As it is no longer a side benefit it would probaly need dedicated actions to advance further.

Well, Dwarf and College favor can buy us many useful items that are going to help us immensely when we get to Nagarythe...

So getting lots of favor quite useful...

It's been proposed and I think it is the best way to do it. It's just not the best way to farm Dwarf Favour.
But it would be a great display of our utility as councilor, I feel a bit like Max waiting for the army of greenskins that probably won't come for years.

On the other hand, I can feel a great disturbance in dwarfdom, as if thousands of slayers saw their lifespans increase and cried out in despair.

By the way, after we finish our tower, what task should we pick?

There were many people in this thread that didn´t want to push Belegar to more radical things like Aethyric Vitae or Queekish... What do you think of helping Edda with the Undumgi?

On a completely unrelated note, as terrible of an idea as it was, I wonder how @BoneyM would have written "Ransom him back to Naggaroth" for the dark elf prisoner.

You can't exactly call up Malekith or walk into a Dark Elf embassy...

I wonder what reward we could have gotten, and how we could avoid being declared renegade.

Boney themselves said other councillors were better for it. We should probably just push Kazrik in that direction instead, given he has the exact opposite trait for handling them.

Thing about an observatory is that the people who might want one are Celestial College wizards. i.e. the people who have the Clear Skies spell in their lore*. They don't need Matty with a magic item to cast their own spell. Nor would they need to build their obsevatory on Karag Nar - which has Ulgu towers and a smol but fierce Grey and (soon) it's own intense light source all getting in the way - when there are plenty of minor peaks and the top of Karagil available.

*Except Hubert who knows both types of Azyr - Lightning and bolt.

It depends on Belegar's mental state. If he's doing better in six months I'm more willing to push our luck. Also, the situation can and will change. I can't imagine we'll get the same list of possibilities we did last time.

That said, from that list of possibilities I'd pick Moulder Mysteries. It would let us fold "working on the stuff we plundered" as work actions and help our crunch somewhat, since our Golds would be able to give us a productive work action each per turn. @chocolote12 is correct about the Undumgi not being a good fit.

Considering we now know the issue that Belegar has, dropping more bombs, provided they are merely radical and not straight up anti-dwarf, (Like passing new inventions before proper testing vs befriending skaven or inviting elves) i would actually ask runesmith, or maybe Kragg himself on possible viability of Vitae as Anvilfuel. And then, if it proves possible, pushed that task. Not sure it is one though, as we are, per WoG, about twenty years too early to even begin comprehending the insights into magic that Kragg has. Despite not being mage at all. Amazing. Anyway, my point being that any Vitae viability as fuel for runes is not really Mathildes task, as she would do jack shit beyond providing the stuff.

I still like Cartography option too. The AV I'd like to get Kragg's solemn nod of non-dissaproval before brining before Belegar.

"If Kragg, The Kragg, says it's fine, then it's fine"

Is what I am hoping for here wrt Belegar's emotional response

I'd pick Queekish. The sooner our work with the prisoner results in Skaven being interrogated before the We eat them results in more dead Skaven, the sooner Belegar gets to reconcile not having gone max stabby immediately. Also, we need to be able to follow Skaven politics because the moment the Horned Rat declares the civil war over, Mors loses all value as a buffer against the other clans.

So the thing is that Kragg's nod of minimal disapproval seems like it would come at the end of the process. First we need to research it and make sure it's safe and we know how it works, then we run it by him for his own experimentation.

This is a fair point about what his issues actually are.

I'd say it's more a heated rivalry, with smug offs and attempts at flexing at each other.
The Night of a Thousand Arcane Duels would point to it being a bit more complicated than that.

it's not been that bad for years now. but under the flexing and good-natured snarking, there is an undercurrent of Legit hostility, at least in some groups.

and that's not even getting into the problems with the older crowd, as many of them were the ones that were trying to kill each other that night and now have to have office meetings as if nothing happened.

I think Cartography too. I think its fair that after spending every bit of resource we had on a WMD for him that an easier, College favour-less, not make or break job would be nice change of pace.

The thing is that Cartography will take a lot of actions to get done, assuming 1 action to scout each remaining peak in detail and 1 action to enchant the war room, which is a lot of assuming. And it's not a thing our wizards can really help with; Max is useless, Johann is sneaky has no options when faced with a watchful guard station other than "punch it" whereas we can just walk right through it without them noticing, and neither of them can enchant.

Queekish or Moulder Mysteries both are things where we can probably leverage our Golds so that our AP aren't in quite so terrible a state as they have been this year.

Nah, i mean yes, but for testing, you need a runesmith or better yet, runelord. Mathilde does not understand runes much. They run orthogonally to conventional magering and while she can say that she thinks Vitae will basically shorten the process of recharging, she can ´t do jack shit without getting her hands on high tier rune anyway (and i don ´t think risking epic tier artifacts is worth it). At which point you have to ask yourself if it wouldn ´t be better to ask if Runelord couldn ´t do it with less risk and better. There is a question of whetever Kragg wouldn ´t just sit and ponder the matter for two centuries even after knowing it works because he just has to test it really thoroughly.

Which is why it was brought up that we should try to find some semi radical runesmith who would be willing to say that it at least works somehow, and only then present it to him and say, hey this does this and that, could you just check? Also, added bait of Runelords unleashing anvils of dooms on unsuspecting once a century, but once a battle becoming a viability. You better believe they really love doing that part. Something that could speed it up? Gotta push it as fast as it can go.

Cartographer would go a long way to addressing the "we must investigate X" arguments.
