We web-weavers are dog sized.
Basically, the issue is that they're a hundred coordinated people with hands the size of barrels and two fingers the size of puppies each. Five We would have the equivalent dexterity of a single human, except for the bit where they're separate platforms who have to move themselves around to get anything done, rather than a bunch of much smaller and neater graspers attached to a highly dextrous platform designed for the sole purpose of carrying them, bending them, or rotating them appropriately, in any combination or configuration they please.

It's like the other end of the High Magic problem; they can grab things just fine, but they just don't have the anatomy to do the highly complicated stuff.

Panoramnia "remember, weeds are the enemy, vegetables are our friends"
Mathilde " simple enough, *death mountain firing sequence initiated*
Belegar...you used your apocalypse weapon to weed the whole valley at once? Wizards.

I almost think Belegar will be impressed/happy with the idea. Keep in mind that for Dwarves weapons that aren't also tools are looked down on. A hammer or Pick is a fine weapon because it's primarily a tool. Well obviously burning shadows was a spell for agricultural work we're just turning it into a weapon of war now. :V

They're not. By Web weavers I mean the caste of spiders that spin their webs that are the size of dogs.

Now, a steam loom is probably better than any of the other options, but Gotri is busy with fortifying. That probably involves lots of flamethrowers and grapeshot, not delicate machinery as in a loom.

Gah, people disguising themselves as white-listed people, or capturing and ensorcelling them, is gonna suck. I'm glad that it's the Grey Order that are thinking up and putting down the paranoid security and countermeasures for this sort of thing, because if it were me I'd flub it.

I'm not sure anyone other than Mathilde should be whitelisted without massive refurbishment.

Sure such a method if available would be expensive... but frankly Belegar can afford to rebuild the tower every ten years. For the matter after K8P is taken the utility of the tower will be a lot lower.

I am so hype for mr. Tower Defense himself to come help out.

I could see Belegar's passcode requiring whoever is using it to be a dwarf of clan Angrund wearing the crown of K8P, and the slot in it for Karag Nar has to be filled

Come to think of it, it'll also work on locusts and the like, won't it?

The issue with that is that dogs are very variable. Like, I've seen barrels the size of dogs. (Barrels aren't a unit of measurement either, really). What does dog even mean in this context?

No it wont. Dwarves are massively outnumbered in practical terms for the foreseeable future and the tower prevents most forms of long term sieges without massive sabotage or inconveniences to logistics ('don't look directly at the mountain from under your sheet of metal' for one).

Using a fully operational battle mountain as the world's largest fly swatter is one of those rare things that Mathilde's background actually helps justify.

Someone from a noble or burgher background would probably never think of it, but as a small child she almost certainly had to weed and pick the pests off the family vegetable patch.

Also I'm not imagining Mathilde standing in a solar eclipse in the shadow of Mannslieb and using burning shadow to do agricultural work on an entire province. xD

I think definitely that somebody like the King of Karak Eight Peaks, the Runelord of Karak Eight Peaks, the Marshal or Warden watching over the pass, should be capable of using it. If for no other reason than because eventually Mathilde is going to die of old age -- or might die in battle tragically, and in only a few years -- and you'd want Clan Angrund to be able to defend themselves still. Or because Mathilde might be out of position, and somebody still needs to turn on the burny shadows.

Once the reclamation is finished though, the Burning Tower will still be useful against any Waaagh or Ogre Migration that comes out of the Darklands. Or the Badlands.

I'm not familiar with the viscosity of various dog breeds
I'm pretty sure that if that adjective is used to describe one that it's in dire need of a veterinarian though :V
I think if a dog is merely viscous it's beyond the artifice of any veterinarian to help, I think you'd be best putting your trust in a mop and bucket.
you two know what I meant, but I applaud your puns anyway.

Heh, one thing I've been quietly worried about, is that...

Getting a cleric of Esmeralda to teach the We means getting a Halfling to teach giant spiders.

And I mean... Sure, yeah, the We understand non-aggression or alliance... But even so. There's still the fact that this is a tiny Halfling. ((Also, the poor Halfling. They're going to be dealing with a giant spider.))

I'm basically stuck blind on vast swatches of the post-chapter discussion due to sleep and not being able to catch up on the discussion, so... What exactly was the idea behind picking a cleric of Esmeralda?

And I was looking forward to trying the Loremaster of Weaving or Spiders first, too. :( (I wonder if that'd mean that if the Weaver were willing to teach, that it would mean that their Karak would be willing to work with Karak Eight Peaks still? (I say 'their Karak' because I forget if its Karak Hirn or Izor or what. Hard to remember which one Ulthar's the heir to.))

Here's the roundup I did for the We education options the night before the update, which seems to have influenced the planmakers:

Warhammer Fantasy: Divided Loyalties - an Advisor's Quest Fantasy - Users' Choice!

As a Journeywoman, Grey Wizard Mathilde Weber is dropped into the deep end of intrigue and double-dealing after a surprise assignment to the necromancer-afflicted province of Stirland. Follow her trials, travails, feats and discoveries as she makes her way in the world and does her best to...

tl;dr: the really low teaching result the loremaster got, which we did not get to see the raw roll and modifiers of, made me very suspicious that the problem wasn't "bad luck" or "this guy in particular sucks" but "teaching style incompatibility," so I tried for a while to get people discussing what the different teaching styles of the options we had might be like. We don't want to waste our time just throwing dwarves at the problem if dwarf teaching style and We learning style are a bad match, and the narrative repeatedly told us (both IC discussion and OOC Boney comments) that trying a couple of different approaches might be worthwhile.

you'd want to be careful with that, swatting all of the flies would be problematic for pollination.

Um, while I suppose it could be the case otherwise, I am pretty sure that those were both straight rolls. :V

Because going by the pattern, when BoneyM wants to hide the results, he replaces it with "(Rolling...)" or the like. Or like leaving a "??" in it for the results.

If you can actually see the rolls, and there aren't any punctuation or marks or things involved, then those are just the rolls.

So uh.

I'm about 90% sure that those were the unmodified rolls. 80%, maybe. :p So... ... yeah.

The We understand food pretty good, and Esmeralda is all about food, and why it's nice to share it, and generally how to be decent.

It's not much for more complicated topics, but on the basis of interpersonal interactions in societies they weren't a bad pick.

Maybe, but Mosquitoes are totally pointless, and I don't think we're lucky enough for them to not be an issue.
