@BoneyM how have the Dwarfs and Asarnil been getting along? What's their reaction to the dragon? How are the Dwarfs reacting to the stupid Umgi dealing with an Elgi and a Drakk?

Oops, I somehow missed that we can recommend up to three options to Van Hal. So a new plan.

[X] Plan Light and Death
-[X] Send for Battle Wizards from a College of Magic (pick which, can be taken multiple times).
--[X] Order of Light
--[X] Amethyst Order
-[X] Recommend to Van Hal:
--[X] Grand Theogonist
--[X] The Slayer Keep, Karak Kadrin, is close enough to Sylvania to inspire a dislike for it. Ask if they'd be willing to join in.

Mathilde herself is probably well-suited to recruiting wizards. Priests of Sigmar and Slayers would be highly helpful, and both should be rather eager to fight vampires. I have no real preferance for the third.

I am not that fond of bringing in both a lot of Wizards and Witch Hunters. Not all of them are as tolerant and pragmatic as Van Hal.

Pretty sure the OP said that only using safe spells won't help with advancing our magic stat.
Mastering a whole tier of magic gives +1 to the stat.

If we get +1 we can use mid-tier grey magic without risk, which should assist greatly with training.

Anyone, getting the Grand Theogonist is definitely something Van Hal should do. No one can lay down the holy smack like he can.

Getting Bright and Light wizards as our actions sounds great. I'm not too keen on Death wizards. All the dhar flying around might make them go crazy or something, and they aren't as good as bright and light at this anyway.

The Throng of Zhufbar nod to themselves and gruffly mutter that it may have been a good decision to grant mankind the secret of gunpowder.
Funny thing but the dwarfs didn't. The Imperials got gunpowder and cannons from the Tileans during the Time of Three Emperors, the Tileans got them from either copying what they could from the dwarfs or from the Cathayans who developed it independently(fantasy china all that). When the dwarfs learned that some Imperials were going around using crude and primitive cannons and guns the Dwarven Engineering Guild sent a Cease and Desist order. When the humans understandably ignored them the Dwarfs wrote down a Grudge.

I'm fairly sure the Theogonist won't come himself unless Van Hal gets a natural 100. He'll send subordinates.
I'd give it decent odds actually.

Not on,y it'd be an Elector Count asking, but he is asking for help in purging Drakenhoff.

Unless there's an Everchosen bearing down on the realms of men or something to that nature, there's literally no better way for the Theogonist to contribute to the cause of humanity. The cause of his God.

[ ] There is an awful lot of Dhar around. And it is, you've heard, easy to use and quite empowering...
I summon Ackbar, that he may speak his famous words of wisdom on this matter.

[X] Plan Might and magic
-[X] Send for Battle Wizards from a College of Magic (pick which, can be taken multiple times).
--[X] Jade Order
--[X] Grey Order
-[X] Recommend to Van Hal:
--[X] Grand Theogonist
--[X] The Slayer Keep, Karak Kadrin, is close enough to Sylvania to inspire a dislike for it. Ask if they'd be willing to join in.
--[X] Seeking mercenaries has, to put it mildly, gone rather well so far. Seek out more.
I figure we have enough artillery, human and dwarf, that we don't need magic for firepower. Healing and subterfuge however are things that cannon cannot do.

@BoneyM how have the Dwarfs and Asarnil been getting along? What's their reaction to the dragon? How are the Dwarfs reacting to the stupid Umgi dealing with an Elgi and a Drakk?

Asarnil has, on very rare occassions, been in the employ of dwarves. He's exiled from Ulthuan and therefore not a part of the Grudges incurred during the War of Vengeance.

Can I get a source on that? I read that the dwarves introduced gunpowder to the Empire during the Wizard's War, when necromancers and chaos sorcerers were running rampant.

So, looking at that Long List of people that could be asked to contribute...
[ ] Averland's army is currently mobilized to mop up the last vestiges of a defeated Waagh; perhaps they can be convinced to contribute.
[ ] Hochland's famous snipers could come in useful in a prolonged siege.
[ ] The forests of Mordheim will keep. Invite Ostermark to bring their armies into Sylvania, so that they might actually achieve something for a change.
[ ] Anton is already in Reikland seeking assistance from the Emperor, but perhaps a greater focus here could pay dividends.
[ ] Talabecland's knights appear to be having a grand time, perhaps they could convince more of their fellows to join in.
[ ] More cannon. More cannon. Send to Wissenland.
[ ] There's one neighbour that hasn't been asked for help. Maybe the Moot could contribute somehow?

[ ] Send for Battle Wizards from a College of Magic (pick which, can be taken multiple times).
[ ] What purpose could be more holy than this? Request aid from the Grand Theogonist.
[ ] Surely Van Hal has a lifetime of contacts and favours to draw on. Bring the Witch Hunters in.
[ ] The Cult of Ulric are no friends to the undead. Call them to battle.
[ ] The Fellowship of the Shroud are technically Tilean, but their enmity of vampires is unquestionable. Extend an invitation.

[ ] The Throng of Zhufbar is already seeking reinforcements, perhaps the backing of an official request from Stirland could help.
[ ] The Slayer Keep, Karak Kadrin, is close enough to Sylvania to inspire a dislike for it. Ask if they'd be willing to join in.
[ ] The dwarvern hold of Karak Angazhar in the Black Fire Pass is small compared to Zhufbar or Karak Kadrin, but they've closer ties with man and a greater interest in trade; perhaps they'd be easier to convince to join in.
[ ] Apparently there's dwarves gathering for some sort of revanchist crusade into the Badlands. Perhaps they could hone their edge against this fortress.

[ ] Drakenhof is very close to one of the utmost reaches of the Stir; perhaps the riverine forces of the Empire could contribute to the fight.
[ ] Sylvania is technically part of Stirland, so this could be considered defensive. Raise the militia. (pick which segment of the militia, can be taken multiple times, check the Military of Stirland threadmark for militia details)
[ ] Seeking mercenaries has, to put it mildly, gone rather well so far. Seek out more.
[ ] It seems Countess Gabriella is content to sit back and watch events unfold. If your suspicions are correct, and you don't mind dabbling in what might be considered heresy, her personal intervention could be a great help.

I'm thinking there are three distinct strategic criteria to weigh them on when planning this, if one wants to be thorough about it.

1. How much help would they be?
For example, a Battle Wizard laying down fireballs on hordes of undead is probably superior to the average level of mercenary company we'd be likely to get.

2. How willing are they to listen to us?
Imperials are probably more willing to listen than foreign humans, who in turn are more willing to listen than dwarves.

3. How interested would they be in assisting?
Slayer Dwarves looking for a glorious death would probably be some of the most interested in attacking Castle Drakenhof.

And on each of these questions we're considering the marginal improvement from Mathilde's extra letter-writing, not just base amount, so there's probably (for example) less value in writing to Reikland where Anton is already.
So, cutting various groups out of consideration where I feel they do too badly on one of the three questions.
IMO, Q1 cuts out mercenaries and the militia among others.
Q2 probably cuts out Ostermark ("leave your fight and join our fight!" might go over badly) and the Badlands Dwarves (I figure they'd be all "who dis?")
Q3 probably cuts out the riverine forces among others.

Then the rest can be weighed on overall score of these - Battle Wizards, for instance, are obviously popular because they score something like High/High/Average.

The plan could have been named light and shadow tho. :V
[X] Plan Light and Death

I have to say after looking up the Dog breed we have I am very happy that we chose it, I can see them running down criminals already.

@BoneyM IC, how good an idea is it to ask death wizards to a place like Drakenhoff? Are they liable to explode themselves or are they liable to explode everything else?

--[X] Grand Theogonist
--[X] The Slayer Keep, Karak Kadrin, is close enough to Sylvania to inspire a dislike for it. Ask if they'd be willing to join in.
Maybe add in the Countess?
If her Elector Count asks for her aid in battle she has a duty to fullfill.

And we get more info from her reaction.
