True, I'd like to agree with you here, but if we are bringing the spiders down there, they will be also launching predation raids at the Skaven. It might be best for Mathilde to get down into Skaven territory, and see how aware the Skaven are about the relocation, predation from the spiders, and whether Clan Mors is going to try to organize an immediate response.
Being preyed on by the Spiders is the normal state for the Skaven, tho, and they won't be able to launch an organized reprisal while at war.

Er hold on, isn't Dwarf year 4000 equal to about -523 in Imperial? Because it's currently about year 7002 or so in the Dwarf calendar, and 2479 in Imperial.

This doesn't work out to 1400 years old, that works out to about 3000 years old.

This is weird. Stone and Steel has the Dwarf calendar 1500 years off the one in the latest army book. I thought that seemed off.

Thanks for pointing it out, correcting.

That is optimistic thinking (as in, nice dice rolls would definitely make it true), but there is no guarantee it is necessarily true though. For all Mathilde knows, the strategic situation for Clan Mors might have shifted sufficiently over the next six months that Clan Mors at least tries to divert some forces away for an organized reprisal against the Spiders, when the Spiders try to hunt beyond Dwarven lines. If we aren't keeping watch on Clan Mors down there, it'd be hard to address the We concerns that Skaven predation invites Skaven reprisals.

Also, barring anything giving it away, I doubt they'll see an uptick of spiders preying on isolated ratties, or track their nest relocation (unless they've got spies up the wazoo in dwarf territory), and immediately go "the dwarves must be behind this! Kill-kill them all!"

Edit: It's not retaliation against Dwarves that's the worry, it's the Skaven organizing a coherent reprisal against Spider hunting parties beyond Dwarven lines, which can put the alliance/agreement in jeopardy if not prepared for.

For those whos objection to the plan is that the Spiders learn to speak human, i present once more the alternative.
[] Plan Citadel Focus Semaphore version
-[][Max] Current Task: Have Maximilian learn a Skill:
--[]Dwarven Semaphore from library
-[][Johann] Allow him to spend all his time investigating Clan Mors.
-[][EIC] Instil corporate policy: always be scrupulously honest when dealing with Dwarves.
-[][Social] Wolf is now fully grown, and is a very large dog or a regular-sized wolf. Train him. (increases his intelligence, may deepen Familiar bond)
-[][Penthouse] Have a tower built atop Karag Nar: -100gc for 1 room, bonus to room's purpose.
-[][Free] Request the translation item yourself (does not cost an action; converts 3 College Favour to Dwarf Favour).
-[] Help the We establish their new nest below the Citadel.
-[] Spend time assisting with a fellow councillor's task: Gunnar, assist him with human burial rites.
-[] You have acquired the possession of the Temple where Ranald mugged Mork. Set up a shrine and spread knowledge of it throughout Karag Nar.
-[] Write in: You've mapped the territory of Clan Mors. Help Johann poke Clan Mors
-[] The Gambler: Poke Clan Mors

Max will teach them next turn.

I dunno what he voted for, but the Waaahbane counterspell seems like the best use of Mathilde's time for a paper, and Max is ready to take another crack at Waaagh energy.
I swapped it to Waaaagh energy.

Attention people who voted for me: I have switched Max's option from teaching the spiders Reikspiel to writing up observations on Waaagh energy. Hope that's okay with you.

Edit: not showing up in the tally. I'll fix it.

Edit 2: Done!

So this is pretty great, really. It trades a 50% gold markup (plus the introduction of some random chance) to bypass the Favor system. I bet it would even bypass our usual buying scheme of +1 Base, +1 Extensive, +1 Obscure, +1 Antiquarian. He might find an Obscure book here, an Antiquarian book there...

I will reiterate that you should give some thought to who would end up missing those books. If you're looking for esoteric information on trade, some Marienburg merchant company isn't going to be able to do anything about the theft, but if you start paying for the theft of books on Demonology or whatever you might not like how much attention it could bring.

One enormous, key difference though-
Relocating the We is at the express command of King Belegar.
He's assessed that risk versus reward to his domain and found it worthwhile, which the type of decision it is his role and duty to make.

Note, he didn't for example ask us and Johann to 'Poke' Skaven to assess Mors reactions.

Ah. Huh. I wasn't aware there even was multiple places to check, come to think of it... Then again, I pretty much just use the armybook or reach for the wiki.

In this case, for the timeline, I just immediately reached for Dwarfs 8th edition armybook.

Checking 6th edition Armybook... doesn't seem to have a Dwarf timeline. Okay then. ((It does say "The Dwarfs employ a rt::cording system based on the founding of Karaz-a-Karak, but dates fron1 the more commonly used Imperial Calendar are given in the fo'Jiowing descriptions." though, but then I'd have to track down when exactly Karaz-a-Karak was founded...))

The only other ways I'd check is the wiki (which would be at danger of being the result of somebody just having used only the Dwarfs 8th edition book, which means I would not actually be working with 2 different sources; just my own source and a copy of that source).

I have no idea where in Steel and Stone the Dwarf timeline would come up. The armybooks are once I opened way more often than any other, comparatively, and it also has a really convenient way to check -- it has a timeline.

Pft, Marienburg. I don't know anything about Marienburg, how could they do anything to us!

If I don't know them they don't know me, that's a rule

[X] Not Plan TNE

is my preference

but I can also approval vote

[X] Plan Mors, Gunnars and Ranald
[X] Plan Not Really Preliminary Anymore
[X] Plan Magical Mathilde

as they establish an important ground rule with Johann
- he does one task we choose every six months
-and neither teaches the alien spider hive to write, nor do they Poke the Skaven.

Poking Mors too much is ill-advised. Even moving the spiders under the Citadel isn't the best option, I think. Abbyss under Lhube is better.
What's the long game here? I see two options
1. Weakened Mors is wiped out by one of the other clans, skaven civil war calms down, skaven start poking at dwarfs. Hooray.
2. Weakened clan Mors is wiped out by dwarfs, now dwarfs are under attack from three fronts. Hooray.

To make communication easier.

With who exactly? We'll have a translation device and the dwarfs almost certainly know their own semaphore code already and its not like rando humans are gonna be running around in the cavern system.

For me, so that Max can teach them semaphore next turn.

That leaves 6+ months where they can't effectively coordinate with the Dwarfs on military stuff. Even then, Charlotte's Webbing is a super inefficient form of communication.

What is with the Dwarf fear with the EIC?

That cultural differences might lead to what would be considered business as usual for humans causing terminal offence to dwarven trading partners. Even once the Grudge is resolved, that's a very bad first impression.

Also, to snakejuice voters, how married are you to doing snakejuice research right this second? Because next turn we'd have a super lab and could maybe pick up a handful of specialised books specifically to help. Meanwhile, there's a fair bit of time dependent stuff occurring this turn.

[ ] You have acquired the possession of the Temple where Ranald mugged Mork. Set up a shrine and spread knowledge of it throughout Karag Nar.
[ ] Kvinn-Wyr is full of trolls. Investigate this for yourself.
[ ] Travel underneath Kvinn-Wyr and investigate Karag Mhonar.
[ ] Travel through the Underway into Karag Yar, to investigate the third source of pressure on Clan Mors.
[ ] Clan Moulder are set up under Karagril. Investigate.
[ ] Greenskins currently occupy Karagril. Find out what tribe they are and who rules them.
[ ] Investigate underneath Karag Lhune: the Lhune Deeps and the Grand Abyss.
[ ] Collate the information that the Army of Stirland collected during the Purge.
[ ] Write a paper on the Waaagh energy and magic witnessed during the Expedition.
[ ] Write a paper on your personal understanding of countering Waaagh Magic.
[ ] Write a paper on the Black Orc Warboss' worship of Only Gork, and what you saw of the Rogue Idol ritual.
[ ] Write a paper on Mathilde's Multidimensional Aethyric Projection.

At the very least, an action spent on Ranald on a suboptimal turn for the juice is better than that action spent once we've got all our research bonuses maxed out. We're gonna have to get it out of the way eventually, why not just finish it off before our tower is ready?
